Just caught up with the boxing from the weekend. 

Feel for Leigh Wood but personally I think it was a great call by Davidson throwing in the towel. Was a brutal punch from Lara. 

That shambles Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul this weekend. Tommy loses this and that's his career done. Not that he's been that impressive anyway 

 

Apparently Floyd Mayweather also has another exhibition fight in the uk against a reality star. Meaningless at this point

Don't know whether its me or what but boxing seems to have dropped off the face of the earth.

There seems to be a lack of advertising for the fights unless a search on the net is done, most of the bouts are shown on-line or PPV which have to be paid for over and above the sports tv that I already pay for, even the "up and comers" are shown on DAZN or ESPN+ and have to be paid for and there also seems to be a lack of mouth watering fights.

It was a sad, sad day when Premier League Boxing Champions entered the sport and ultimately HBO pulled out.

Agreed. Boxing is a ghost of itself 

From the failed DAZN uk launch( granted itv will show it now) but the buy rates were shocking. Doesn't help pubs or clubs can't show it 

Underwhelming under cards. I can't remember the last time I saw a solid card from top to bottom 

The best fighters ducking out of fighting each other. ( Fury being the worse for this) although I feel its more down to greedy promoters like frank Warren and Eddie hearn. 

The whole YouTube boxing is a joke as well i get its bringing in a different crowd but it doesn't nothing for the true sport of boxing. Just creates a bunch of already rich brainless dead behind the eyes Z listers even more money. 

I've seen better scraps down in hanley compared to that Tommy Fury-jake Paul fiasco

Even though he is a Stoke fan, I really want to back Heaney because he's a local lad but he very rarely knocks anybody out. 17 professional fights, 11 going the distance. The way he boxes is not exciting at all

Felt gutted for the young lad from buslem having to retire. Such a shame but health always comes first

Good win for Joshua. Needed that. Not a classic performance by joshua but got rid of the ring rust and got a few good few rounds in him. Credit to Franklin too

Although he's mad for calling out Fury again. Not Tyson biggest fan but he would AJ head off right now. 

 

I do feel AJ has lost his power over the years and hasn't been the same fighter since the Usyk first defeat

I was fuming last night with Joshua but woke up with a different perspective on AJ.

Initially, I thought it was poor from AJ to go the full distance without putting down someone rated 34th in the World but like you said, it was always about blowing off the cobwebs and to get sharp again.

He needs another fight before he can even think about fighting the likes of Fury but like you I'm a little concerned about his lack of power.

I also thought Dazn were very biased towards AJ. I know that AJ is the main boxer for them now but Franklin was returning some of AJ shots with some nice combinations that DAZN very rarely mentioned.

Good performance by AJ against a resolute opponent. Must admit that the longer AJ's career goes on the more he appears to be Frank Bruno version 2. I wonder sometimes whether AJ is just too nice of a guy.

Just thought I'd mention the recent passing of a legend of the sport of boxing. Ken Buchanan, the Scotsman who became the undisputed World Lightweight Champion in the early 70's. Always remember his fight with Jim Watt, he of the boxing style of "Glasgow kiss, Glasgow kiss then left hook". Brutal 15 rounder which Buchanan won.

Just watched the Joyce Fight, did he underestimate Zhang?

Or is he  not as good as a lot of people felt he was?

I was surprised by the power of Zhang but thought he dominated Joyce 

And was on the front foot from the off

I have not really seen much of Joyce because at his age he does not have the reputation of probably another half a dozen boxers above him but I watched him for the first time on Saturday night

I'm still trying to work out if it was good quality boxing match or not because like you said Zhang totally dominated Joyce and really enjoyed the way Zhang boxed but I'm also sure Zhang would struggle against a Fury, Wilder, Joshua etc
