Not meant to be a quiz by any stretch but I have a thirst for knowledge and as I'm new here, educate me!

 

1. Do you have an anthem? I thought the hymn 'He Who Would Valiant Be, would be great but when you get to the final line, it's all about Plymouth (for those that know the words).

 

2. Who is Vale's record signing? At one time ours was Paul Goddard, £800k from Derby and we thought he was rubbish.

 

3. What is the furthest Vale have gone in the FA Cup? Ours was a final in 2004 but unfortunately drawn against Manchester United.

 

4. What is Vale's record league attendance? Ours 39,000 or something like that vs Derby County.

 

5. Anybody famous support Vale? We have Andy Fordham, David Hay, Danny Baker and Scroobius Pip!

 

6. Have Vale's colours always been white, black and gold?

 

7. In their history, how many league titles have Vale achieved?

1. The Wonder of You - Elvis Presley

2. Gareth Ainsworth (I think) for £500k (I think). Sold him to Wimbledon for a lot more 12 months later. Hero.

3. Semi final 1954, lost to West Brom.

4. 50000 odd in the 1960s, when VP was the Wembley of the North :)

5. Robbie Williams and Phil "the Power" Taylor are the 2 that are always churned out.

6. Don't know.

7. Not many (or none if you only include the top division). Maybe 3?

2.Gareth Ainsworth 500k,later sold for 2m to Wimbledon.

3.FA CUP semi 1953/54.lost to WBA or should I say robbed,when we were in the 3rd Division North.

4.49700+ FA Cup v Villa in 1960 although there was most probably more than that for the FAcup game in 1964 v Liverpool.One or two got in for free.

5.Robbie Williams.

6.No ,we wore red in the early days and I'm pretty certain we wore Wet Sham colours at one time.White shirts and Black shorts has been favoured but for a while in the late 50s and early 60s we played in black and Amber stripes which is now our away kit.

7.We've never played at the top level, but have won titles in the fourth division and third division.3 times,twice Div3 once Div 4.

I think that's not a bad choice at all really. It certainly has passion.

 

 

Obviously there isn't much on the '54 semi-final but I did find this piece (apologies as most of you will likely have seen it but not me).
