It's not a question of just "getting rid" of players who are under contract though. Somebody else has to want them, and those who are on decent money aren't going to go and play for the likes of Accrington for the wages they pay.

 

I bought the same too but Northampton who aren't bad at that level wanted Yates and I'm sure a conference club would take Johnson.

 

In both cases we'd probably have to contribute part of their wages but it would certainly free up some money.

 

As WASU said earlier the chairman said he has learned from his mistakes so needs to tie down quality and gradually oust those who ain't good enough / aren't going to take us forward and we do have quite a few of those.

True but they did at least show some interest in him which surprised me as I didn't think a club with their ambitions would go for him, I was expecting someone who would be looking to finish mid-table.

 

Maybe they will want him back if he recovers from this injury or maybe they won't.

Yep. I totally agree. Earlier in the thread I talked about getting some players out but I do appreciate it is easier said than done (and have done so in other threads). It's all very well me saying that Johnson should leave but a) he has to want to go b) someone has to want him and c) an agreement (financially and otherwise) has to be met.

 

I personally think that is the problem with McGivern in that he will remain in the squad rather than on loan because I don't think we'll do any of the three things I mention above.

 

Having said that we (remarkably) managed to get three League Two loans for Kaid Mohamed over a two year period, so you never know...

Apparently we tried to offload McGivern to Crewe, neither party was interested. I think he is not on bad money either

He did a good job for us in our promotion season. I can't see why they wouldn't want him back.

Anyone know how long he's out for? If he's only out for a short period it's odd they've cancelled the loan rather than just send him back for treatment.

He was only on loan for a month wasn't he? It's usually the common thing to send them straight back.

On the topic of our goalkeepers in the Vale squad.

I would personally send Boot out on loan and gain some first team experience. I would also send Johnson out on loan as well when Neal gets back from his injury.

Alnwick and Neal to battle it out for the first team place. I hope Alnwick keeps his place because he deserves it and has played really well recently since he has joined from Newcastle utd :).

As I have said on another thread Alnwick needs to command his area and communicate with his defenders though there are signs of improvement with regular football. At the moment one of Johnson and Boote needs to be on loan always. It does no player any good to sit on the bench for a whole season and the standard of reserve football is far too low. I notice we are continuing to get the youngsters out on loan which is a step in the right direction.
