How Vale saved Alcester Town.

Silverdale Athletic FC were promoted to the Staffs county senior premier division last season, and so with it been level 7 of the none league pyramid grounds have to meet a certain criteria. To a certain extent we had a head start as 18 months ago we moved into our new purpose built facility (4 state of the art changing rooms, 2 referee rooms, full disabled facilities) and we had the main pitch laid out to maximum size allowed knowing we will progress up the pyramid.

Anyway my point here is that my role is to secure future funding / sponsorship etc, and I was on the Alcester Town website and clicked on the history page. I never realised Vale had saved the club from folding.....

Where does it say we saved them? I might (probably am) being thick but I can just see a bit where it says the club folded in 1993 but that Vale played them before that, in 1991, with stars such as "Neil Aspin, Martin Foyle and Trevor Wood in their squad to name just a few."

Saved when £8,000 rolled into the coffers...

 

However, one bright moment for Alcester Town was the success of Paul West who was transferred to Port Vale Football Club for £8,000 in January 1991. As part of the deal, Alcester Town hosted Port Vale Football Club in a friendly ahead of the 1991/92 season. Alcester were captained by Colin Saunders, whilst Port Vale had Neil Aspin, Martin Foyle and Trevor Wood in their squad to name just a few.

Maybe saved is not quite correct but at that level 8K would be a lot of money so undoubtedly would have been a massive help
