I think this guy has started the season as good as any Vale player and deserves a thread of his own. He was probably one of the least exciting signings on paper this summer in fairness, but if he carries on in the same sort of form he's shown in his brief Vale career thus far he'll go on to be our best right-back in God knows how many years, and by some distance. An excellent bit of business by Page. In fact, other than Kelly I'd say all the signings so far have looked like fantastic additions. But Kelly is young and inexperienced, it's probably just a case of him finding his feet playing league football and will go on to be a more than decent player for us.

I agree that Kelly has struggled but let's not forget that he made the goal that got us the Baggies match so he's probably paid back all his salary with that cross alone.

 

Back on the thread though, Purkiss has been excellent.

Yes, saw Purkiss for the first time yesterday - very impressed with his reading of the game and his communication with his colleagues. Pity he isn't 21, but we ought to get a couple of good years out of him.

I think we can all see that he (Kelly) has a decent left peg on him. But from what bit I've seen from him he really struggles to get himself involved enough at times and seems to be really lacking physically. But that's something that can certainly be worked on, and for the time being he's not a bad option to have on the bench along with the likes of Daniel and Leitch-Smith.
