Vale Radio?

Recommended Posts

Just thought I would flog this idea out here and see what others think.

Should the club look to launch its own radio station? This could be broadcast locally at the ground on an FM frequency (this happens at many sports events - especially motor sport). They could also broadcast online on non match days - maybe make it part of the valiant player so that their is more incentive to get fans signed up.

I'm assuming the club makes money from all the sign ups to Valiant Player. It certainly would enable the club to communicate with fans directly, sponsors could buy / be offered advertising on the station etc.

Just an idea and maybe even not possible with the FL broadcasting rights.

The only issue with a podcast is that you can't really get live callers and discussion going - but a podcast would work in the way the style that you describe.

Broadcasting online is really easy, nothing to it. So long as they don't play music then they won't need any real expensive licences as well.

The real strength of something Vale related is that it has a targeted and focused audience. The problem with the smaller community efforts is that they don't really have a defined audience and are more a hobby. The only community station that has some decent audience figures and focus is Moorlands Radio - however all should be commended for the effort they put in.

How would it be funded ?

How many people would listen though? I really don't think it'd be many except maybe on a match day. Knot's show goes out on a Sunday night and interactive via the Oatcake, Twitter, e-mail and the phone and it works a treat. Having a Vale radio station just seems ott to me.
