Just off topic for a bit... has anyone else noticed the number of uninformed Man Utd "fans" who are suddenly upset that Dan Gore may be going to Port Vale. I did a Twitter search for "Port Vale" and the latest posts are just chocka of uninformed nonsense from fans who think their teenaged talent (with one minute of League action to his name) is far too good for the likes of Port Vale.
I presume that's because they haven't heard of us because we're not on Sky Sports every week and that they've got no clue that though Dan Gore may be "far better than Port Vale" we've now got a proven record of looking after young loan players and that we can give him plenty of first-team starts, something a kid with one minute of senior football may not get in the Championship or Premier League.
Thank goodness, I'm not a supporter of a "big" club, I don't think I could take that amount of rubbish, spouted by uninformed idiots.
And if you ever get fed up about a topic on OVF, it's well worth a brief trip onto Twitter - the amount of garbage on there may rapidly restore your faith in the quality of debate on here!
Rant over...
Rob, I’m not surprised by that entitled lot. They have one of the poorest squads they’ve had for some time and he isn’t a regular for them. Were they saying that when Beckham went on loan. I had a discussion with a Spurs fan yesterday who told me that football to them doesn’t exist outside the EPL. I told them there are 72 teams in the EFL and that’s more supporters than Spurs have and for most of them the EPL doesn’t exist. I also told them to join the super league and don’t bother trying to comeback or be involved with the English FA. Also mentioned our fa cup victory against them, would have been rude not to, IMO

They really rate this kid Gore on Redcafe, the United forum. He was being linked with a move to Dortmund this season and they can certainly spot a good young player!
Not heard anything about him from Vale Cafe.

Will Baylee now go out on loan, to earn his keep.?

I suspect the business model will say sell, sell, sell. At the end of the day Uche has a say in it and if he thinks his signing on fee will be bigger in summer when a free agent than now, he’ll stay. Could be just agent talk trying to push us into giving him a contract extension.

I would agree to some extent but this summer we also brought in Ripley and Chislett. Both are Port Vale players, not loans - both are improvements on what we used to have in those positions. I realise it's only two players but it's still two, good, permanent signings. That's a small progression, I would argue.
I would imagine that in the long-term, the club would also hope to get another couple (at least) of "James Plants" to make the switch from youth ranks to regular first team. I would imagine Shorrock, Lomax, Dipepa and Walters (if he stays) are at the top of the list. Giving them all game time this season is also potentially progression if it helps some of them make the step up.
I do get (and agree) with the point that we need to be self-sufficient. For me, loans need to compliment the squad not be the backbone.
However, this is also the January window when lots of people say it's not a buyers market so clubs put inflated prices on players. So, if Vale simply rotate the loan players (out of necessity due to recalls) it's possibly a more sensible option than paying over the odds.
Can we inflate Lofts value and get rid.?

Maybe Foster influenced the move?
Well it’s a blessing with him being a northern lad, that he hasn’t moved to that small team in Blurton. Good on the Argyle

I sometimes believe that with clubs taking players on loan, who then have to go back, the club loses some of its identity and independence. However that’s the modern game and I have to accept it.

Devine going is just the way the game is evolving. There were quite a few negative posts towards him a few months ago, when Ollie seemed our best loanee. Good luck to Alfie and thank you for coming to PVFC in the first place.

There is risk to be managed which was done poorly last Jan. But a big difference this time is the large number of our young players we have brought through to the first team squad. We need to give them a lot of opportunities whilst not over playing / relying on them. The loan players we've brought in recently fit the development model the club has. In general we are not now taking on loan old farts. I'm an old fart by the way, so I can say that!
Warren, thank you. I think the majority of us fall into the old farts category.

Sometimes that's a good thing (that we're not lumbered with them)! I don't have any problem with us going after as many loans as we can, so long as they are better, or much better, than we could get permanently. Ollie and Alfie clearly fall into that category. Kofi and Josh not so much (though Josh I liked). Weir looks promising. Not a bad record for loans this season so far, especially when compared with previous seasons (who could forget Callum Whelan). So long as we do the same kind of quality consistently every window, we're likely to get better players than we could permanently, without the long term riskPhil, hard for me to comment about Josh without having seen more of him

Have we actually got anyone that isn't on loan this January?
PVFC, TBH, I’d just be happy with any player that can secure our L1 status. Obviously the problem with loan players is they leave a hole when recalled. We need to get it right in the summer for next season.

Either Colchester have some sausage and mash, the Cowleys stock has fallen off a cliff or they weren’t as expensive as perhaps we thought they were.

I read Giggs linked with the Bradford job, with his financial interest in Salford surely this will be a conflict of interest and the FA wouldn’t allow it.
-
Ian Foster linked with the Argyle job. Ex England U20 coach currently assistant to Gerrard in Saudi. Good to see the English game can tempt some ppl back. It’s not just about the money

Yeah I seem to remember that when people would link him with jobs usually at one of the clubs he played for. It’s true though and it’s far less stressful and very minimal risk of losing your job. Worst that can happen is when Alan Hansen had the “you don’t win things with kids” line thrown back at him for a few years after United won the league. Think most can live with that.
I think it was the Stoke FA cup game 3-1, when the Regis shot got stuck in the waterlogged goalmouth at the Hamil. Him and Keys were commentating in a temporary commentary box on top of the Lorne st.

Yeah think that put him off if for life. Much easier to be a pundit as Neville and Keane for that matter have found.
Another name who was a great player but as a manager had minimal success was Gianfranco Zola. Also remember John Barnes attempts at being a manager at Celtic and Tranmere.
Mainstream pundits are far better off financially than becoming managers. Wasn’t that what Andy Gray stated when he worked for Sky and he was linked with a managers role. He stated he was earning £40k a week at Sky at the time.

Don't get me wrong I think he should go as he is not making the best use of the players available to him but the main problem though for anyone coming in is having the finances to build a squad capable of competing in League 1

Gags, I think if we could get Lift and Uche out it would improve our finances no end. I know it’s only teracgossip but I heard some one say Loft is on 4K a week and Uche on over 3k this is killing our club for what we get in return. I accept it could be a load of rubbish but we cannot afford to carry anyone

Nippy, whilst I agree with what you say, we’ll be signing our own death warrant. Having said that we sell everyone else so I wouldn't be surprised. How do you think the fans would react if it happened

We can’t afford to sell BG, it’ll be a test of the club, as who blinks first.
