Agree. Far bigger problems in that squad than Smudge. Need some better players around him - preferably a dominant big guy and some pace. He is a proven League 2 player. Yak, Jones, Lowe, Debrah as his defensive partners give me far more cause for concern. Proper full backs / wing backs to reduce the number of crosses coming in will also be a huge benefit.

Should have done it straight after the match. They could have all stood in the centre circle whilst their fate was decided, and we could have shown our ‘appreciation’ as they left the pitch towards the exit. We could even had Anne Robinson on the big screen - you are the weakest link, goodbye!

That is fine as long as you have a strong core / spine of hardened pros to fit them into. The youngsters then look even better and sell for bigger fees! We opted for the lower league chancers + kids option with spectacular failure instead. Rudgeys team for the best part of 10 years was built around Mussy / Glover / Aspo / Porter / Foyle and Naylor with shooting stars (Guppy / Ainsworth etc) and squad fillers (Sandyman / Stokes / Corden etc) filling the gaps.

And I will add Marty Taylor who has scored again for Cheltenham - his 6th since January despite also having a spell out injured.

Ellis sums up how poor our recruitment has been. He was our player and we let him go to downgrade to Loft and Uche. Ellis goes on to be a bit part player in a League 2 squad scoring 7 goals, where he is still head and shoulders above what we’ve got up top, and would have been a nailed on starter here.

Agreed. By so publicly saying Flitcroft was NOT a mistake last time for this latest statement to mean anything it had to be covered, as well as the condescending tone of the last one. It’s like receiving a letter of complaint but then totally ignoring what the complaint was about in your response! This statement was not knocked up after the final whistle, it would have been typed and ready to go after much consideration as to the wording. It does not admit to mistakes not covered in the last statement, which for me makes this a ‘save face without backing down’ response. It only adds apologies for the results, which in themselves I do not blame Carol for - but does not address the issues that we were all warning her about that led to these poor results and ultimately surrendering our League 1 statues without a whimper. in summary, a Corporate rather than heartfelt apology for me - CS probably still thinks she was right in her initial response, and has not backtracked from it one iota with this latest missive - which in turn raises concerns regarding future strategy setting!

Nailed it. Only actually apologised for results and other ‘non specific’ mistakes. Happy to tell us in the last letter in no uncertain terms that Flitcroft certainly was not a mistake, and this comment that grated with most fans has certainly not been retracted. That, and the general tone still leave a very bitter taste and after this latest letter still remain firmly on the table.

It started when DC went off script by saying we’d had an awful January window just days after Madame Chair had done the Corporate Glossy staged propaganda of what a good window we’d had. He was no longer ‘on the bus’ and had to be removed. Sometimes Carol someone else on the bus might just have a better view and can see the cliff edge! Everything since has been big brother speak telling us what we should be thinking of what’s going on, and should ignore what we can see going on, culminating in the ‘don’t you dare say that about my Flicker’ defence document. To date she has not redacted from formally this written statement - probably because she still thinks she was correct, but ultimately he had to go to negate any negative press, and to hopefully help shift season tickets. Even SMURF was big enough to say the Bruno experiment was all on him, even if The Shanahans and us ultimately paid the price.

Tbh Joe I think this lot would struggle to finish 20th in Div4. Since Ollie and Alfie left and with Willo sadly injured again we lack any real creativity to continually create chances and ultimately win games. Couple that with no natural finishers and comic cuts defenders this lot would not prosper in the League below.
