We'll be spending the weekend in York next week, but I'll be attending the match on my own.

 

Funnily enough my wife would rather go shopping with her sister than come and watch the Vale.

 

Can anybody recommend a decent boozer where away fans are welcome?

slightly off topic....but re train travel, whats the cheapest anyone has found stoke-york so far? I got £42, so considering the coach now....

 

I got an off peak day return Stoke to Manchester £14.50 and then Manchester to York and back, £7 each way.

For the record

 

It's often worth trying breaking up the route to get a number of cheaper tickets than one more expensive one.

 

Bizarrely, it's sometimes even worth looking at buying tickets for journeys which start before you get on the train. For example, it's cheaper to go from Leicester to York, than it is going from Derby to York, even though the Leicester train goes through Derby on the way to York.

Wow, where do you start in York as there are brilliant pubs everywhere. The Exhibition is okay and fairly close to the ground, but for real ale treats and atmosphere walk into town and try Ye Olde Starred Inne on Stonegate, Lendall Cellars and Harkers on Coney St are on my usual crawl route too. If the weather is decent try the Kings Arms on the riverbank which is one of many Samuel Smiths pubs serving great Ale at great prices. There really are too many good boozers in York to name them all. You must try the York Hog Roast on Goodramgate - you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!
