Past v presents threads debates

We have gone so many years since the last time it felt this good to support Port Vale. We all remember our heroes from the golden years. Guppy, Mcarthey, Fox, the sprosons, the list goes on for ever.

We have thread over thread, debate over debate comparing our wingers against guppy, McCarthy and chamberlain, Pope v Rougier v Newton v Constantine v lee mills.

 

Irrelevant would we not be better comparing them to players in our league and indeed players from league one hopefully for next season. Combined as a team I think we compare favourably to top three league two and top seven league one.

I think it's good to compare them to our ex vale stars as it shows that we've finally got a decent squad that's worth talking about. The majority of ex players that we compare them too are from the great vale sides that were successful and it shows that the happy days are back. The current squad is on the verge of been very successful. We've had around 6yrs where there's hardly been a player worth talking about, now we've got a team full of highly rated players.

Man for man, they were probably not as good as the current squad, but I loved every minute. John James, my all time favourite player was top scorer on 17. I think they broke some records of long runs undefeated from the start of the season, but still only scraped home at the end in 4th place.

Some of the players mentioned from the past were better than we have now. But we are improving and as we progress better players will come in to replace what we have at the moment. This has alreay started to happen with Jones Purse and Hughes coming in to improve our squad this season. Rudgie was always looking to bring in better and would be out scouting many nights to bring in better and improve what we already had. I see us at the start of a new and exciting time in our history and hopefully another spell where we cannot wait for the next match to come along.
