Best Vale team/squad since the mid 90s

I'd have to say so, the last 15yrs apart from the LDV success has been pretty dire, one big downward spiral.

We have a good keeper, 2 decent full backs, cracking centre half in Purse who will help out whoever partners him, 2 good wingers, good midfield with good cover and 2 class strikers with good cover again.

Good times are upon us at last.

Interesting point made on the radio that I was thinking as well is, how many of the current team do you think would still do a job for us in League 1, if we go up?

From todays starting 11, I would say the following:

Neal - Definitely

Duffy - I think so

Purse - Yes for a season and to bring on Davis

Chilvers - Squad player

Jones - Yes

Vincent - If on form, yes

Burge - Definitely

Loft - Squad player due to injuries/inconsistency

JMW - Same as Vincent

Pope - Definitely

Hughes - Yes for a season

I reckon the chairman and Micky have a plan regarding players to challenge in league one should we go up.

Whilst we have some decent players i would say that they will be replaced to mark an assault on league one with better players.

It really is a great time to be a Vale fan.

It did not go too well first half. We didn't create too many chances and we were suspect on crosses at corners and free kicks and lucky not to concede. That defensive problem comes from some misunderstanding between the goalkeeper and centre backs. Neal is a guy who comes and does that well, but he needs the centre halves to get out of the way when he does that and not go for the same ball.

I thought the team had a physicality about it which comes from a higher division and looked useful second half. But Accrington were down to 10 men so we have to wait and see. I agree though that we have a powerful squad now by either League 2 and even League 1 standards. We have got people like Morsy and Dodds who have performed well this season well down the sqaud order and a player like McCombe to come back from injury and Davis who has promise etc.

I certainly think we can now power out of this league and the fxture list looks suddenly very manageable.

Yes, I agree with this. The First Division has become a very even League in recent weeks and apart from the teams cut adrift at the bottom they beat each other. I think this current team now has enough to stay up. More than that depends on goal scorers and whether the players we have could have similar totals at League 1 level.
