Totally agree. I think we might even sign 3 strikers (Dickinson, Purcell and one other). If we can afford it why not? The competition would make us better.

Let's be fair to Artell, he won promotion with crewe and helped Morecambe get in the playoffs, Morecambe have also gone down hill since he left. He's a solid pro at this level. He doesn't particularly excite me as a signing but let's give him a chance!

 

I think some people are concerned that signing Artell will mean that we might not sign a forward, or at least it seems that way - which is just silly thinking.

 

Owen had a shocker of a season and I wouldn't rely on him anymore. Therefore, without Artell that would only leave McCombe, MacDonald (however you spell it) and a raw and inexperienced Joe Davis. So his signing would make sense in my opinion, even more so considering he's also a leader on the pitch.

 

I know MA isn't the brightest lamp in the street, but I'm sure even he is fully aware that we need strengthening in other areas of the pitch before the season gets underway. My advice to all the moaners and discontented would be to relax a little bit. Once Ryder is officially in position I expect to see a few more new faces yet.

If there was a choice between him an Chilvers, I'd rather have Chilvers. Maybe this means he's off somewhere else.

 

I don't think you want too many slow number 5s in your squad. You need to balance the central defensive partnership a bit more with someone who's a bit quicker and can read the game well. Generally with most centre back pairings there's a lead defender who goes for the initial header and the other man picks up the second balls and the knock downs.

 

So Artell seems like a strange signing. Maybe there's a plan somewhere that I haven't spotted yet. He looks like a decent finisher judging by his goal for us last season so maybe Micky is expecting him to weigh in with a few more goals next term,

Good solid defender, don't know why people are moaning if we sign Artell. I for one will be happy!
