New sidebar for forum home

I've just added a new right-hand sidebar to the forum homepage. I hope it proves useful.

 

So far it contains:

 

1. Latest 3 features/news articles from the OVF homepage

2. Latest active threads across the whole forum

3. Our disclaimer

4. A donate to OVF link

 

If you don't like it, then you can click on the bleeding big arrow next to it and it will go away...

 

I will be playing a little with this over the coming days. If anyone has any suggestions/comments on it they are very .

Something I keep forgetting to say - on my iPhone the home page doesn't work properly - it just comes up as black and white text in a weird layout, and I can't access the news stories because of it. Do I need to do something?

Very nice Rob. Would it also be possible to have the "Go to last post" button for each thread in the sidebar?

Burt, you were correctly viewing the mobile version of the front page. But the text is due to the top menu not displaying correctly on mobiles. The posts were underneath but not easy to get to.

 

However, you've pre-empted me as I've just launched a new mobile design that should make things much better. For those interested in what we have here it is:

 

1. The main OVF homepage is available. You can either type in http://www.onevalefan.co.uk and your device should automatically redirect you to a mobile version. Or type in m.onevalefan.co.uk on your mobile device to go there directly.

 

If for any reason you get the normal (Desktop) site then click on the link on the bottom LH corner to "view mobile site". Your choice should be remembered for the next time you access OVF on your mobile so you should only have to do this one.

 

You can move on to the forum from the homepage menu so if you want to read the features before going to the forum this is the best route.

 

2. If you just want a mobile view of the forum go to http://www.onevalefan.co.uk/forum

 

3. If you want to just have our features delivered by email (it goes out at 6pm so ideal for reading on the train back from work if like me, you commute) sign up for the newsletter on the home page.

 

4. Then we also have social media available - all our features get fed automatically onto our Twitter and Facebook pages (links available to both from the homepage)

 

It's been a top priority of mine to ensure OVF goes "mobile" and all the above has been worked on quite extensively. However, I DON'T have a version of every mobile device so I do have to rely on guesswork for some of this. If it doesn't work do let me know and I will do my best to correct any mistakes.

I've try but this script came with the new version of the forum and has no options for that (I noticed it too). So, it may take a while to get that done. I'll look into it though...
