Advance notice - server upgrade

Hi all,

There have a large number of occasions where the site has been slowing down and/or crashing.

In simple terms, the server is running out of memory.

It isn't a problem that's going to go away so the obvious solution is to upgrade to a dedicated server with more memory. This is more pricey but I think it's going to be worth it.

I have agreed an upgrade and it's fairly straightforward. The upgrade will take place one night. Hopefully that will simply mean the forum is switched off for a night while the content/domain is repointed to the new server and by the morning, the site will be on a more powerful, stable server.

So, just be aware that the the forum may be closed for one evening in the near future.

Cheers rob, I had noticed it was slow to load.

I don't want to switch off the forum for a server move on a weekend (especially with a game on).

So, please bear with the slowness and crashes for a few more days and hopefully the switchover to a more powerful server will happen the middle of next week.

Hi all,

I appreciate there were issues this weekend with the site going down from time-to-time. I was receiving about 4-5 messages of the site going down each day.

Unfortunately, I don't have a spare evening to make the switch over till later in the week but I am pencilling in THURSDAY as switchover day. On that day, the forum will be switched off overnight. I will then move the site from the old server to the new, more powerful one.

Thanks for bearing with me on this but the new server will have double the memory and therefore should be a lot more stable.
