Does anyone else feel these rules are actually hindering our league rather than benefiting it?

 

The bigger sides are snapping up all the best British young talent and then sitting it on their bench for 2 or 3 years . Or is it simply a case of our greedy society , letting youngster earn silly money for not working . It's also over pricing British players in general to try and compete, when in reality the idea is that teams use British players and develop them.

 

Either way I think it should become a rule that so many British players are actually starters , difficult to police I know as you can't forsee injuries .

We have to see if Greg Dyke can deliver his promised reduction in Carlos Kickaballs to create space for more English players. The FA are on to this? But care is needed to maintain the quality of the league and its world wide market strength. At my age I have seen enough to know that the top division in the 70s and 80s was much weaker than now. For example I believe Tom Pope could have played in the top division then, but now was never going higher than the Championship. Ability wise he is on a par with say Brendon O'Callaghan or Lee Chapman at Stoke City who played top level football as similar strikers in those days. We don't want to reduce the standard again.
