Quite agree. I remember being very sad about the fans who had died and also annoyed at the people who had caused the deaths. It was a combination of hooliganism and neglect of the ground that caused the deaths. I do think that lessons were learned though in that grounds have become safer. The ugliness of hooliganism is still there though unfortunately.

Possibly because it wasnt just an accident [?] or something fans would want to remember being part of...?

Great post, it's very strange that this and the Bradford disaster are not remembered the same way Hillsborough is every year.

30 years ago, why does it seem forgotten ?

 

I've never forgotten Mario. I was on night duty - 6pm to 6am - the day it happened and it remains indelible on my psyche.

 

It was early morning Oz time 30th May, the kids were safe and secured in their cabins (we didn't refer to them as cells), most of the maintenance and security checks were completed, and it was time for a cuppa and watch the game, and only because Juventus were playing. I wasn't bothered either way.

 

On duty was my senior officer (R.I.P) and me, She was born in Turin, me in S-o-T.

 

No Mon Ami, I've never forgotten :(
