Ken Norton dies aged 70

 

He was best known for his 12-round victory over Muhammad Ali, when he famously broke Ali's jaw, becoming only the second man to defeat a peak Ali as a professional . They fought twice more with Ali narrowly winning both

 

Doesn't usually get mentioned in the same breath as Ali, Frazier and Foreman but he was right up there

I don't think Ali ever worked him out. I'd certainly have given Norton the third fight as well as the first, and (if memory serves) the second was tight. 'Styles make fights' is always the case, and Norton was Ali's nightmare. He, Foreman, Frazier and Ali were the quartet who made that era, by common agreement, the greatest period ever in the heavyweight division.

Pretty much what I remember of Norton, rugged and unusual style which Ali found hard to deal with.
