A fun verse for Ken

Off Topic

It’s happening again, and don’t ask why,

And at times it’s enough to make you cry,

You all know it happens; we cannot stop it,

It’s those pesky posts we call Off Topic

Now sometimes Off Topic is done for fun

By using one-liners or a one word pun,

Such is the theme of this poem for Ken –

No longer a ‘Lion’, but a ‘Wolf’ in a den

His name’s Kenny Jackett – a Watford lad -

And he’s played for Wales thanks to his dad,

It’s said he went kicking for a job

With Steve Morgan and the Molineux Mob

It caught their supporters on the hop

And some chucked a dummy believe it or not,

But don’t worry said Steve “Ken’s up for it,

And I’ll say it on record he’s the perfect fit”

Is Kenny Jacket a Bespoke man

Or is he more a skiffle fan?

Will we see him in tweed and a trilby hat

Or a codger jacket with matching flat cap?

Now when Kenny’s out on the training track

What clothes will he wear on his back?

Will they look darn posh and cost a quid

Or will they be made from bits of crib?

Will the clothes he wears during the game

Be sporty in style with a famous brand name?

Or will it be just an anorak

With the words ‘made in china’ on the back?

And in the post match interviews

Will he wear tailored clothes and leather shoes?

Or will he turn out and our pardon to beg

Saying the suit on his back is off the peg?

Some Valiants believe that Kenny’s quite mad

To turn up at Wolves is very sad,

And whilst they agree he’ll earn a packet

He may also end up in a white straightjacket

Will Kenny be their fancy Dan

Or just another bushelman?

And yes I know it’s wearing thin –

That it’s time for me to jack it in

Legend of tailoring terms used in this poem:

* Kicking - looking for another job

* Chucked a dummy – fainted

* Bespoke - a suit made on or around Seville Row, bespoken to the customer's specifications. A bespoke suit is cut by an individual and made by highly skilled individual craftsmen. The pattern is made specifically for the customer and the finished suit will take a minimum of 50 hours of hand work and require a series of fittings.

* Skiffle – a suit made in a hurry

* Codger - tailor who does up old suits.

* Crib - large scrap of cloth left over from a job, usually enough to make a pair of trousers or a skirt.

* Bushelman – journeyman who alters and repairs
