And thats the rub. Barnes now spouts his objections,years after the event - which he admits in so many words that at the time he played the nodding dog role. And then we look back at V2001 and regret 'getting into bed' with them. But at the time they appeared to be the beginning of a wonderful new era. Unfortunately certain members - Bratt, Lloyd, Oliver,etc - turned into something not dissimilar to the man who loses his job, but still dons his suit, puts an apple in his briefcase, kisses the wife goodbye each morning, then spends the day riding the tube till 5pm. Nobody likes to admit failure, they'd rather pretend everything is rosy, while all the time they're digging themselves deeper and deeper. And then their lies get bigger. Finally they get found out and the people they've been lying to turn on them.

My point was that Barnes is trying for a cheap point score, and i personally didn't think V2001 was going to be a short term thing (at the time).

Notwithstanding inconsistencies in the council's treatment of Sjoke and the poor character and culpability of Barnes .... The logic is right. Describing Vale as a net resource to the community is wrong at this point in time and they shouldn't be throwing good money after bad.

I'd rather go into liquidation and start afresh as AFC Port Vale ground sharing short term with say Norton. If there really is an appetite for a league club in the North of the city let's start afresh and see how far we get. Mo could help grow a sustainable club without silly loans, Andy Porter might be attracted to manage, Ray Williams to scout, Rudgie help out as he must be due to leave Sjoke by now ... All for love of the game. In due course, maybe we could justify building a ground near the D road, north side.
