Doesn't time fly - 25 years ago today Goober made his debut!

 

Sure I was at that Freight Rover game, will have to check my old programmes.

 

Has he qualified for a cult hero slot yet (can't find the list) as if not surely he is a prime candidate?

 

Local lad, battled hard and long to make it with a small amount of natural talent but an amazing and zestful will to win and was captain for a while of arguably one of our best sides taking no small part in many victories over Stoke :D

 

Where is he now?

He is a part-time Youth Coach at Stockport County who led his team to a victory against an unbeaten Vale u16 side (i think) at Newcastle College a couple of months ago, i said hello and Foyley was there also......

Peas in a pod those two, I remember the Central News coverage of them on the coach on the way down to Wembley for the Autoglass Final. An odd couple you would have thought.

 

Wonder if he is still at Stockport now James has taken over, can't imagine Goober loving him any more than the Horse and surely he would be very keen to be involved with the youth set up given his love for bringing young players through?

Goober legend griff reminds me of him 100% every game you know when porter was on the pitch there would.b total effort and commitment

Cracking little player Andy but i dunna think he scored that many Goals But that net boster against Stoke was worth 20 that season.......:D

No more appointing someone as coach just because they are a legendary ex-player. We're stuck with one now who we can't get rid of!

To be fair to JJJ I think he was saying it in terms of Goober's passion and commitment rather than his ability to coach, which remains in question.
