Changes to donation system

I have made some changes to the donation system.

 

OVF did have a script which gave a monthly tally of paypal donations and which did useful things like send a private message thanking donators etc. It was all automated so I didn't have to do things like manually approve the donations etc.

 

Unfortunately it is an old script and due to Paypal security changes it no longer communicates with Paypal.

 

However, as this site only gets a few donations each month the advantage of an automated system is minimal really. As it's only an occasional task to deal with the occasional donation the automated script isn't really essential.

 

It also would have been beyond me to amend the automated script to communicate with Paypal securely and I wouldn't want to be responsible if I made a mistake and anyone's money was lost or account compromised.

 

So, I have now added a simple system:

 

1. If you want to donate, you can click on the link at the top of the page which will send you to this page:

2. If you click on the donate button you are sent to Paypal to make a donation. You won't be donating on OVF's server but on Paypal's - that means you are protected by all the security and payment protection that Paypal offers.

 

3. So you can rest assured that you are making a donation in a secure environment (Paypal). This website will be notified of your donation by Paypal but we will never see your payment details nor will your payment details be processed on our server. OVF only ever keeps details of user's IP address and email address - we hold no more information on any of you so your information (or the limited amount we hold) is safe on here.

 

Thanks to those of you who do make donations. If I haven't thanked you personally please be assured that the donation is extremely useful especially as our hosting company charges in dollars and with the weakening pound our costs have/are rising.
