Remembering parkway

This brought back memories when I were a lad we would play parkway Clayton as our first pre season fixture. I would always eagerly anticipate the game as all the new signings would be on show. We would watch the game from behind a rope. It was a Sunday and in those days no buses I walked 2 hours each way to see the game.

 

 

 

FORMER members of Parkway FC are being invited to a club reunion, 50 years after it was first established.

 

The club was formed by a group of pals in Hanley, and played in both the Potteries Sunday Afternoon Football League and later the Hanley and District League.

 

It became one of the best known and respected clubs on the local non-league circuit and was also one of the forerunners of Newcastle Town FC, the current Evo-Stik League side.

 

Former coaches include Port Vale legend, the late Ken Griffiths, who played 196 games for the Valiants and was a star of the side which reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 1954.

 

The Parkway reunion will take place at Newcastle Town's Aspire Stadium headquarters on Friday February 28, from 7pm.

 

The invitation is open to everyone who has a connection with the club, from chairmen, directors and committee members to managers, players and, of course, the old Parkway fans.

 

The evening will support local charities and includes a buffet and a 'Triple Decades" disco playing music from the 1960s, 70s and 80s to mark the club's heydays.
