Clarke Carlise Depression Programme

That NHS site has some considerable drift beyond what I have read about NLP. In particular the 7 habits - which have some merit - are in my view lifestyle or management.

Moving away from NLP to wider philosophy of the mind the most interesting thing I have understood from my studies is that the brain is not fast enough. Its capabilities and ability to respond exceed the physical speed at which electro-chemical actions can occur. So to reduce the brain to a physical object is wrong and there is an envelope of consciousness whether derived from the brain itself that dies with the brain or otherwise that does not die with the brain that sits on top, makes everything work. That is simplifying a bit, but basically what I am saying is that the conscious nature of the mind is not explained and may never be explained by science. So coming back to depression, faced with that, it is not surprising this is an illness of wide forms that is very difficult to deal with.

even the medical professionals use a scattergun approach, pull yourself together (as if you're a pair of curtains) is a stock remark, another is think of others instead of yourself, not helpful in fact it probably exacerbates the problem.

Proper treatment should always be available on the NHS which is supposed to be free at the point of need. Unfortunately the mental side of health is vastly under resourced so the medical practitioners often have to resort to palliative treatment rather than attempting to cure the disease.
