  1. Yeah I seem to remember that when people would link him with jobs usually at one of the clubs he played for. It’s true though and it’s far less stressful and very minimal risk of losing your job. Worst that can happen is when Alan Hansen had the “you don’t win things with kids” line thrown back at him for a few years after United won the league. Think most can live with that.
  2. You’d like to think that’s a joke but it is the Wonder of Vale Facebook page…
  3. Yeah think that put him off if for life. Much easier to be a pundit as Neville and Keane for that matter have found. Another name who was a great player but as a manager had minimal success was Gianfranco Zola. Also remember John Barnes attempts at being a manager at Celtic and Tranmere.
  4. Alan Shearer was a bit of a disaster when he did it for a brief period at Newcastle.
  5. Looks like Rooney about to be sacked by Blues. All time great <ovf censored> up that was sacking Eustace for him.
  6. I could see something like that. Some of it would depend what sort of clauses he has in his contract. Regardless Vale should learn from how MacAnthony and Fry operate at Peterborough and put a hugely inflated asking price on and make any buying club work towards us so start it at a million and then see where we meet.
  7. To be honest this is just my opinion but if Swansea were ok with it I’d like to keep Thomas for the full season. If we are going to play with two up top his pace could be a really nice string to our bow. I’m hopeful we can hang on to Alfie Devine too for the season. You’d think Tottenham will be pleased we’ve given him the time on the pitch and he’s trending upwards. Guess the only complication could be the AFCON is on in January so maybe if they are hit by call ups that could have a potential knock on effect?
  8. They’re just a complete basket case. Owner in prison and on to their third manager in a few months. I think any half decent manager would give this a wide berth.
  9. The right decision on Willo for me. In all honesty even if we get say 10 games of him that gives us more chance of points than being stuck with Loft for all the remaining ones. He’s looked sharp when he’s been on the pitch so just got to hope he can be a bit more lucky now.
  10. Swear had seen he’s picked up an injury though no idea how serious. I’d like to see it though. The other thing if we can find a natural LWB in this window gives us an option to move Grant centrally too I guess. I’d go with Alfie in Oli’s role and then that frees up the option to maybe put Willo into one of those number 10 positions maybe? That’s of course assuming we are wedded to this formation which seems to be the case.
  11. Yeah I expect you’re probably right but if I remember rightly Funso is out for a few weeks too so maybe it could delay letting him go. Either way though the club have a whole window to address this in some form now so I’m not having any excuses from them on this, they will have known there was a risk of this as there is with any loanee so should have options lined up. If there is a bit of hope on it regardless what people think of recruitment in other positions our recruitment of midfielders has been pretty good overall since Flitcroft came to the club.
  12. No two ways about it. Realistically there isn’t going to be a like for like replacement we can bring in. Personally if it was my call I’d go with Alfie in that deeper role, he was pinging it around beautifully in that Barnsley game so maybe that’s the way to go. Be interesting how this affects say Conlons expected departure too. Fair play to Sheff U, at least they’ve been up front so we can get a head start on things in the January window so no excuses for us like it was a last minute recall. But good luck to Oli, been a genuine pleasure seeing him play for us.
  13. It’s a report from the Sheffield Star. Better hope Alfie Devine doesn’t get recalled otherwise will be starting from scratch in midfield almost. Just a moment... WWW.THESTAR.CO.UK
  14. I’m presuming with Loft he might have made an appearance for Rovers at some point probably in the pizza trophy so if that’s the case we are probably stuck with him.
  15. I think the Conlon one seems more than plausible. It’s clear he has no future here if can’t even make the matchday squad and DC loves him. Him and Pett can team up in the middle there again. Cass I can see a drop to L2 maybe doing him some good.
  16. Fingers crossed with MacAnthony and Fry they'll drive a hard enough bargain to drag it out long enough. By all accounts Charlton might lose Blackett-Taylor so guess that would even things out regardless.
  17. I think they’d be more likely than Fleetwood with their owner doing time. Clubs like them two I’d imagine he’d just sit his contract out and try his luck as a free agent rather than go either them or Carlisle.
  18. Seen a report Bristol Rovers not expected to go after him again now they’ve got a new manager. Whether that’s just positioning on a fee who knows. Based on what you’ve said I would guess Charlton and Blackpool could fit that criteria.
  19. Probably doesn’t suit our system but seems Charlton making a headstart on a clear out for January
  20. I don’t think they’d be able to register him in time when the window opens to play that day even if the deal is all set up.
  21. Don’t want to rush to judgment on him as he is only young but I’d be asking the question what it is he’s not doing to be able to get time on the pitch even in the sixth tier. Feels like his development has stalled a little in comparison to a couple of the others who’ve come through for whatever reason. Hopefully can get him going again whether that’s someone giving him a bit of a kick up the arse or whatever.
  22. Yeah I’m with you on that. The Coates family have done a lot in terms of investment in them but think the idiot son runs the show there now rather than Denise Coates. They can’t all be terrible managers and their records elsewhere would speak to that.
  23. The cycle begins again with them. They’ll appoint someone who looks half decent on paper (Eustace probably), maybe have a decent run at the start having them planning the open top bus and then revert to type and sack them in a years time.
  24. Can’t be work permit issues as the kid has a British passport. All very strange as presumably he was a free agent so should have been straightforward signing him.
