  1. Good result last night as Charlton are stronger, Cheltenham look like they lost Matty Taylor for the season as well and injuries are pilling up and have lost form so a win Saturday likely would see us above them which is 1 of 2 we need to overhaul. Its down to us now and ironically in our own hands with those fabled games in hand.

  2. Massive game really, it is the last last chance saloon, Shrewsbury have lost the most in the league and have scored even less than us so its certainly one we should be looking to win but that would involve our side having the desire to have a go first!

Win this it opens the door ajar and gives us chance to get within a win of overhauling them, lose or draw and its good night Vienna (well Goodnight L1 and hello Valley Parade again)

Interesting developments on the coaching side announced today on the PV official website.  An assistant manager plus 3 other coaches appointed.  Obviously DM will now have his own backroom team and hopefully, that will be beneficial to us on the playing side.

However, this poses some questions: why wasn't the 'whole package' put together at the same time as DM's appointment.  We've already suffered four defeats out of five since DM arrived and there'll no doubt now be a further 'bedding-in' period as the new coaches get to know and work with the players and vice-versa.

Four additional salaries will also add hefty costs to the 'on-field budget pot'. This suggests there was money available in this 'pot.' This therefore begs the question why it wasn't utilised in recruiting a left-sided defender + a goalscorer?

Realistically however good these new coaches are and however well they fit into DM's longer term strategy, the fact remains that the meagre and unbalanced playing resources we have are not going to be any different!

To end on a more positive note, let's hope that because they've all worked together before, the new coaching team will  be able to give greater support to  DM and help to turn around our on-pitch fortunes, God knows, we need some changes soon.

At least 3 of the coaches have been here since DM was appointed.

  4. First time in 20 years since we lost 4-1 to Tranmere on the opening day that I have left a game early but that was dire, bar a 15 minute spell before their second goal where we had a bit of a go without creating much.

Shorrock got destroyed by their winger for 2 of the goals, it was bonkers throwing him in there, not his fault as he will become a very good footballer but that was a huge ask.

Ojo I hope is unfit because if not he can't be bothered and you down tools at a working class club like ours and it isn't well received by the fan base. I thought Derby were pretty poor but cruised to the easiest 3-0 you will ever see. All 3 very avoidable goals, first Lopata sticks it in his own net, not sure how Sibley is claiming that, second both Shorrock and Debrah get done and 5'9 Gayle has all the time to weigh up his header completely unmarked, the third is a comedy of errors, but notably a half arsed tackle, no one cutting the cross and no one out on the man it somehow gets through to giving him time to grab a beer before smashing it home.

Proper gallows humour in the away end, joining in the Derby songs about how poor we are and where we are heading, the fans who were superb deserved better, we outsung them first half and had little in return.

It is a game that really shows what failures have been made, no available strikers, a youth at wing back and a lack of battlers and characters.

Losing 3-0 at Derby is acceptable, their budget is huge and should beat most sides at this level but losing in that manner is not, if we are going down at least go down fighting but not seeing an ounce of that.

On a side note the safe standing system seemed to work well, first experience of it.

The league above and no strikers for a lot of that season too I think (a long-term injured ‘tin Foyle and a relatively useless Keith Houchen?) . Didn’t we end up putting one of our better defenders, Swanny, up front, too so a double whammy? Would the Yak or Jesse Debrah be better up front than what we have available at the moment- it’s a way of getting all our centre halves in the team even if they are play as strikers 😉

Didnt Debrah start out as a striker he said? Might be an option to try... a sign of how desperate we are.

i remember him being an absolute pain in the harris every time he played against us!

That finish for Rovers against us (the third goal) clean through and lifts it casually over Stone who's racing out into the net... where is that man!

No way would Loft hit the back of any net

Near 1/5 of his career goals tally have actually been in the back of the Vale net...

    Scored 21

Scored v Vale 4 (1 for Carlisle, 2 for Scunthorpe, 1 for Rovers)

We need to tell him we are shooting the wrong way!

  8. I think Flitcroft is ok in League Two because its easier to recruit, we are a relatively large fish, with a higher end budget so recruiting your Tom Petts, Jamie Proctors shouldn't be too difficult.

In League One its a different scenario as we are a smaller fry, smaller budget for that level and that seems to be where we lose out.

If this finishes any less that 4-0 Derby we'll have to consider it an upset.

In fairness Derby haven't really been hammering teams up to this point, they are quite average in general play and generally win by close margins so no reason we can't make a game of it, it will more likely be one where we huff and puff and lose 1-0 or 2-0 without really laying a glove.

Vale to completely shock everyone with a blaster from Garrity followed by a goal from Chislett a minute before the break

Derby will come out and storm the Vale final third and net a header from a corner almost right after the break.

Moore decides to shore up the defence bringing Smith on and taking off Dipepa

Smith heads the ball back to the keeper under no pressure and the ball nearly goes in  but we scrape through to the end before Deby get a last minute penalty.

The penalty is saved but rebound  scored by none other than Gayle. 2-2 draw

I'd snap your hand off for that outcome right now!

  11. Its hard to judge Moore on this, he has literally nothing to work with... 17 year old youth player and Ryan Loft who's destroyed confidence wise.

No wide men or full backs

No workable central defensive partnership, (whatever combination we try it doesnt seem to work).

    No midfield.

I will judge him next season when he has his own players in but I doubt even Pep or Klopp could turn this around.

Saint David said of Lowe on the Ale And Vale podcast he did that it was such a wonderful opportunity for youngsters to come into work everyday and see how a real pro like Jason Lowe behaves.

Not only on the pitch but the way he prepares for games and conducts himself.

    <ovf censored> me, he's <ovf censored>.

Oddly considering we were set on sitting back and heading away crosses for the last half hour plus, surely throwing Smudge on to do what he is actually good at would have made sense, certainly last 10. He's been poor lately and was rightfully dropped but last 10 he would be ideal for pure "defending"

  13. As soon as they scored everyone knew what would happen, you could see it in the fans and players, we'd dealt with their corners (of which there were many) very well but to go sleep then was criminal. We nearly lost in as well when the ball bounced off our defender and Ripper got down well to it.

First half was decent, second half we decided to park the bus rather than have a go... at home to the second worst side in the league, madness. Ojo going off killed us as the midfield disappeared and Loft i felt was the right change to try and hold it up a bit and give us an outlet... weak, doesnt even hit the target 1 on 1 which kills the game.

Was set up if we won last night to close the gap on that clump of teams on 38 points, could of taken the likely loss at Derby knowing Shrewsbury we could claw right back in the week after but when that equaliser went in, that felt like relegation right there, 6 wins needed and I dont see where they are coming from, had it been 5 then you look at improved confidence and maybe then beating Shrews to make it very realistic.

Nothing we change seems to solve the problems we have, manager no change, formation no change, players no change... we are out of answers to get out of this.

  14. His position should be untenable after 14 months of utter failure on the football side of the club which is his department.

In a relegation battle no way in a million years should a 17 year old youth player be leading the line and thats a damning indictment of his performance in the last 14 months.

I don't know where we go from here, Carol seems to not see it, in fact she went on the offensive over critics of him in the open letter so what on earth do we do? Another bad window or two and we could be looking at non league football unless a lot changes. He did a great job summer 2021 but we can't live of that going forward, it was a great season, Wembley was great but means nothing when we are back where we started... which we will be in 2 months time.

His 3 games teething session ended before last night. I’m so baffled by his management & speeches so far, I understand it’s not going happen overnight but that second half last night was awful & he couldn’t see it we were comfortable & their first come as a shock!

    Tin hat on...

I thought we were comfortable, defensively until Debs error. they were dominant and pelting crosses in but most were dealt with comfortably.

We didn;t help ourselves though as we keep attacking them as we did first half we surely score another.

I'm in the now. Fleetwood have enough to get out of trouble even with disadvantage.

I don't know what's been going on, but you need talent to play at the level they did tonight. It's not a flash in the pan. They genuinely were a good side tonight.

Not a chance, defensively they were poor which is criminal that we sat back rather than keep going, their 44 was lively against Sang but for all the crosses he put in most didnt beat the first man! The corner was about the only trouble we had with their crossing, it was always the exact same cross as well which is more a damning indictment of Sang as he cut inside every time!

Lawal was pretty poor after being superb at their place.

Fleetwood wont win 7 or 8 out of their last 11 to survive, they've won 6 all season.

He needs game time at leek town not in league 1.

Correct, think it was Stevenage, he came on, every time the ball came to him he was dispossessed or it got trapped under him, he should be in the Pizza Games and maybe get a run if we are safe mid table in dead rubbers but he is a couple of years off it yet, thats not slating the lad he may have a real bright future and with us as well but we've got to manage him right there.

He's not as far on as Planty or Shorrock at this point.

Not left with much choice tho after the disastrous transfer windows & lack of striker situation unfortunately but to put him in the 18 in case Willo or loft break down. Plants obviously in contention now after making the bench last game. Have a sneaky feeling Mitch might start tonight at left back

Surely you can now use Garrity or even Massey ahead of Dipepa? Granted its not ideal but a) used to mens football and b) allows Dipepa to play and develop in the youth system or on loan?

Time and a place for that now i think and he probably sees that a relegation battle isn't the time

Maybe suggests more back from injury so wont need to dig into the pool of youth players?

Dipepa obviously in the squad, frustrating as he isn't going to develop playing 15-20 minutes for the first team, should be getting game time in the youth's or sent on loan to Non League, we risk setting back a player with big future potential.
