Darren, at first I thought you were referring to next seasons fixtures, but then I realised that, we won’t be playing Cambridge.

We might... just not in L1...

If Fleetwood or Cheltenham get out they are most likely to go with their run in, its hideous.

Everyone keeps saying they need to go to the conference to get experience...but as I see it it's no different to division 2 football 🤔

Its always worked for Crewe! We've arguably morphed into them with a great youth set up but not great first team so maybe we will end up in that cycle, the kids will come good, we go up, flog them, back down again.

Crewe fans seem to have accepted that process but we wont, Micky Adams actually refers to this difference in mentality between Vale and Crewe fans in his autobiography!

  3. A rare positive this season is the youth players coming through and its a reward for that, Baylee should be developing out on loan really but has done all that can be asked in the situation and this is great for him.

The youngsters coming through is a rare beacon of hope going forward into the next couple of seasons.

This one seems different because the Bruno/Brown season still saw us look like getting a win from somewhere. This squad does nothing and has not looked like remotely winning since Blackpool

First half of the season was fairly similar, decent football, winning at home, fell apart after losing to the bottom side at home (Coventry then, Burton this), but we still won a few to take it to the last day between Xmas and New Year... in fact had we held on at Gills and not conceded a 96th  minute equalizer we'd have stayed up at their expense.

The likes of Eagles and Bikey came in to try and help us, we made far more effort as a club to survive then than we have now even if we ultimately fell agonizingly short. We just dont seem like we've tried to do anything to turn this around really, just hoping it happens out of nothing.

  5. When Uche played others scored... look at December/Charlton we were top scorers in the league over that period, its not goals Uche provides but a) a foil and b) space for Wilson, Chis, BG.

He's been a massive loss, we've picked up 3 points since his injury.

  6. I am very concerned about the future and have the same helpless feeling I had over V2001 or Smurf... now let me be clear on this, I am not saying Carol is like the two previous regimes but we just seem passengers on a runaway train which is heading to disaster at the moment, there doesn't seem to be the rationale behind what we are seeing, surely the owner can't be sat watching that side week in week out and thinking this is right? or acceptable? They might be phenomenal players in terms of people but its clear they are not as battlers and footballers, probably a great bunch to hang out with and good pub with but thats no good if we are getting beaten week in and out.

My worry is where do we go from here? Flitcroft stays, performances dont improve, apathy gets even worse and we lose money from ticket sales, if we don't change it we are in deep trouble next season as it stands with the trajectory the football side is going.

My only hope is Darren Moore and the rumoured wage is a sign that investment in the squad will be increased to rectify it and Flitcroft repeats Summer 2021 with Darren Moore able to entice some bigger name players, the one eye watering fact though is despite awful previous regimes, despite the good will Carol has and the fact we know she does care, fans are giving up on us, the apathy including within myself is growing, those same fans who fought for our club in the past just have had enough, that in itself is the biggest worry.

The reality is that if Vale pull off an achievable win at Burton, they can catch Cambridge.

    It is doable.

I think 46/47 does it so 4 wins, 2 draws but that means we can only lose 3 games which I just dont see. Bolton and Peterborough plus one more.

  8. Copy and Paste from previous home games.

Started well, concede a corner, concede a goal, heads drop... second half miss and one on one, conceded 5 minutes later from another corner... have a late rally where we huff and puff.

Each home game is identical at this point with the same goals conceded, same performance levels.

  9. We will probably win this just to drag the agony out... can see it now.

Vale scrape a 1-0 against an awful Burton, unconvincingly... 3 points behind them and Cambridge... big build up for Good Friday... get behind the boys! The boys are positive in all the interviews.

15:05pm on Good Friday Chris Martin heads in a poorly defended corner and the game is over.

I am going this as its a decent away day but away for Good Friday so last game until Exeter by which point we could be a League Two club... feels such a waste.

  10. I would expect him to stay, largely as tied into a deal and has had a bad season with two clubs (all be it we are not his fault particularly) so will probably not have any summer suitors, especially with 5 years on his deal.

I expect he will be paid a decent wage, probably one of the higher in L2 if we go down and it will be a decent chance for him to rebuild his status if we can get us back up again, which I am sure he will back himself to do, I expect he will command that we have a decent budget so have to see how it all pans out this summer.

    Yes.

After last night it's 3 wins in 6 whole months too. Saturday will be day 183.

as Pboro away isn't until April 16th, it'll be at least 743 days since the last Tuesday night league win, over 2 years, another proud record for the club. Don't win that and with the summer break we're looking at getting on for 2 and a half years since the last win.

Mental, we did have a horrific Sunday record for years at one point a few years back until we beat Hartlepool 4-0 in the cup but Sunday games are far rarer than Tuesday games!

Folks, it was much improved, but there's no way in hell we're getting out of this.

The gap is massive really and the run we'd have to go on would be outrageous.

We need to be better than 1 with in 3 until the end of the season and we've won 3 in over 6 months

Best case scenario is we put some decent performances in

Relegation is a done deal now and we need to start the rebuild right now, because if we wait until the end of the season, we'll most likely have another very messy summer.

And we can't afford that in league Two

Dropping from there would be a cataclysmic disaster

Its 80% chance down but got to keep going, if we can get a win Saturday the dynamic changes and with form on sides above we probably need 14 points. Would need an upturn but somehow other teams above us are dropping like a stone so its keeping the door slightly ajar.

  13. Solid point but too little too late maybe, however we need to build on it, teams above a keeping the door ajar but we need to start winning to take advantage which still seems a way off.

That said if we win on Saturday then that Burton game could become absolutely massive, so have to keep fighting.

It is worth noting Reading are likely to lose another 2 points as the owner has to pay the fine (which is only 4 points then) which he didn't previously and are in a precarious position in terms of a huge shortfall this month (they are trying to sell the training ground to raise the million quid they need) so could well lose more points, whilst a sad state of affairs we are that desperate we have to keep scrapping as getting into fourth bottom may see us out of it if Reading drop below from deductions.

You’d imagine ojo would be the first knocking on the gaffers door trying to find an exit away from the club.  Chislett, and Ripley you’d think only left their league 2 clubs to chance their arm in the league above so I’m not sure they’ll want to stay here for another few seasons. We will end up with the core of <ovf censored> that is currently getting us relegated with the addition of 3/4 new faces. It’ll be another long hard slog in league two.

Thats up to us though as all are under contract, in fairness BG may fancy giving us one year to go back up, Chislett I am not sure a side in L1 is going there at this stage.

Spot on for me. I would add that its difficult to tell whether Ojo has downed tools or is still carrying that injury and is playing at about 50% or even whether the fact he has poorer players in midfield with him is making it difficult to get his game going. Possibly a combination of the last 2 with a bit of frustration and disillusion thrown in. A good summer and pre season could resolve all 3 issues perhaps and his poor form since Christmas may actually work in our favour long term as no-one in League 1 is likely to be interested.

For me, a fully fit committed Funso would be outstanding in League Two, he was a level above Mansfield for example in the cup, to bounce back quick then you want players like him, Chis and Garrity.

  16. Looking at it as a clean slate "Whats going to get us back" I would say:

James Wilson - 1 year deal - scored goals at that level is one I would look to keep who is out of contract.

Smith, Ojo (if he can be bothered), Garrity, Chislett, Ripley, Clark, Leutwiller, Debrah should be retained if possible, show some nuts and don't accept bids unless ridiculous for our key players.

Jones I worry about injuries otherwise hes a decent L2 player, Sang and Grant should be stand out at that level but I haven't seen enough battle to think they'd dig in at Harrogate on a January Tuesday night so probably let go.

Loft as forth choice in L2 maybe but he has lost the fan base already so would be a long way back for him.

Plant, Shorrock, Dipepa, possibly Lomax and Walters if he stays should benefit from a lower level and come on strong.

I'd be looking for left wing back and a more orthodox Right and left back option so we can actually be flexible. 2 strikers of a decent calibre in L2 level, a battling central midfielder and playmaker and a couple of wingers, along with 2 centre halves.

    GK: Ripley/Leutwiller

RWB/RB: Mitch Clark, Lomax plus one

CB: Smith, Debrah, poss Jones plus 2 more

    LWB/LB: Shorrock plus one

    RW: 1 New

    LW: Plant plus 1

CM: Garrity, Chislett, Ojo (if he can be bothered), Walters plus 2

CF: Wilson, Loft (maybe), Dipepa plus 2

Thats assuming we can keep hold of our better players and cant move Loft on.

It doesnt have to be another 5 year stint starting off with struggle like before but we have to get the summer spot on.

Wrexham, Stockport likely gone, Gills or MK potentially gone so it isn't going to be full of big budgets like now but we need to show some bounce back.

I went to have a look and yes, the lineup aside from Arblaster could be the same this week.

Most telling for me was the Blackpool 29th December game, our last win. We totally dominated. Never looked like conceding and it could have been 4 or 5. Nobody who left that evening could have ever said we would not win again. Only guys who we had who are not available are Devine and Uche.

Happened in 2017/18, we smashed Luton 4-0 December 29th or 30th didn't win again until Good Friday! (30th March). We'd won 4 and drew 1 in 5 leading up to that run).

I genuinely believe losing Uche has killed us, he isn't a goal machine but he held the ball up at times and caused problems and gave us physicality. We were creating hatfuls in games in December with him in the side, no surprise Chislett, Garrity and Wilson produced the goods playing with him (and Massey).

  18. I actually thought we were better than we have been for a while Saturday, we actually created some very good chances and had a bit of effort in us, all be it against probably the worst side we've faced all season (which is damning when they've taken 6 points off us!) but again, 2 sloppy set piece defending including the build up to the first corner and some wayward finishing/great keeping cost us. You'd put your house on Garrity to score one on one for instance (Loft got battered for that).

Doesn't seem to matter what we do or how we play though that defensive lapse we have is costing us, and its not like we dont change the back three to try and solve it.

We should really have won Saturday but the key pieces of quality were not there at the big moments and its why we are heading down unfortunately.

  19. Shrews are on odd one, lost more than anyone and scored less, what so far has saved them is it is all or nothing, they don't really draw many so have managed to win a few more than you'd expect for a side that's lost 20 in 36, 26 goals for is terrible however Burton (scored 29 put 3 past us) and Cheltenham (scored 29 put 5 past us over 2 games!).

We need to show some solid defending first an foremost.

If we can win this then confidence is up, we need to win this and one of the Orient/Oxford games (maybe 2 draws) to get right back into contention for me... take it in little steps, but this and the Burton Away are must wins, if we can get a couple of points or a win in those two between that and win one of the 2 Easter fixtures then we'd have a decent chance going into the last 3 home games (all be it probably need 6-7 points from those 3 if we lose all the others between).

Its a huge ask still unless two teams really have a bad run it and set the target to 46 like last season maybe but one step at a time, win this then look at Orient.
