  1. It's an issue with football in general is the pricing in this country, not sure on pricing now but 15 years ago I paid £11 to sit in the Olympiastadion Berlin watching two top flight teams (Hertha and Werder Bremen) full of internationals (Klose, Klasnic, Mertesacker, Diego, Naldo, Boateng, Gilberto etc etc), there was 74,000 there, could have a beer in my seat, excellent set up, incredible atmosphere.

You pay more for some Non League football here!

If this game had been away at Man United and £30 a ticket we'd still have taken 7/8000 fans.

No-one has to buy food or drink at the ground. They can get organized and eat/drink before coming. They've got 6 weeks to think about that, and that gives them plenty of time to save up for tickets.

If it's floating fans you want, Saturday was £15 and we had barely 4000 in attendance.

Man City Away in the FA Cup was only about £15 if I recall?

It's maybe a fiver more than l expected but in all fairness it's only normal match-day prices for adults plus £1.00.

Also I've never known us fleece our own fans so I really don't think anyone can be too disappointed with this.

Its the overall pricing, £13 more per child is not going to get families in, if they'd kept to league pricing and had better pricing for concessions I dont think the Adult prices would be too much of an issue but 2 x Adults 2 x kids = £80.00 plus food/drink/parking etc.

Its a huge game where we have a chance to entice more floating fans and hopefully keep them long term but at that pricing it will be about 5000-6000 Vale at most plus Boro fans, especially at Christmas when we have now 4 home games in less than a fortnight.

  4. Seems harsh to me, if its based on TV rights well they aren't exactly bothered about our cup run!

It depends who's decision it was as to the reason but considering you have awards for football vloggers (wasn't Alfie put up for one of those?) its not like is clandestine and there are a few who do the same, the Fleetwood fan for example or those Swindon ones (Is it Up the Swin or the Swin going up) and that Thogden who's doing massively well out of it now.

The players and even opposition managers and players seem to have really taken to his interviews (apart from James Chester after we beat Derby 😄)

Hopefully Alfie can at least do his interviews, unless thats fallen foul of it due to media rights for player interviews? Really poor though to see as its just a young lad living his dream and he does provide some decent content for fans to watch aside from the usual boring match reports we get.

  5. Ainsworth would be a terrible choice at the moment, we have a small team of footballers, his football is generally more akin to Westley at Stevenage, long ball, physical, time wasting etc, his Wycombe team were slated for it and we dont have the squad for that.

DC put it well last season after they beat us three nil "They've barely strung two passes together and beat us 3-0"

A legend as a player but one to keep there, lets not destroy another legacy like Glover, Foyle and Aspin by letting them manage us.

IF and a big IF Crosby was to lose his job in the near future for results not turning around you'd be looking for a footballing style manager with this group like a Tisdale (did wonders with Exeter, good footballing style and develoment of youth) or possibly even a Karl Robinson. It has to be a manager to fit the players we have if at a point you can't wholesale change the squad.

  6. Expect Conlon will likely go, especially with another midfielder coming in (all be it he could be seen as cover for Blaster if he gets recalled).

Wonder if we will go back in for the Portsmouth Left Wing Back we were close to signing in August? Fell through late on I believe but need a left wing back for sure.

If Uche gets up to speed and Loft stays fit I guess a lot will depend on what we do with Wilson, possibly that would be our three strikers plus Thomas so no movement there.

Could see someone like Cass going though so may move him on for a new centre half but overall I think our business will be limited in January as can't see where else we move players on to make space. If we can sort the wing backs out that would be a good January for me.

He scored a hat-trick in the Champions League and has never been without a club for long. He wasn't that bad for sure.

He had some horrific games such as Coventry Away but got a few goals, granted he probably bamboozled defenders as he didn't know what he was going to do but was he any worse than Paterson that season!

  8. I like Tom and his insight and although I disagreed on Politic who I think we wasted with how we used him I think he's wrong on Big Uche.

The link up play with him and Andoh was outstanding, I recall for example the Gillingham game their players ended up just hacking them down as they couldn't cope and they just grew stronger.

Although I dont think Reggie was THAT bad (tin hat on) Uche was miles better than him and he adds a real physical presence and what we need.

Enjoy the pod though, love listening to it and will have it on whilst doing the London Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday chuckling to myself, its a game of opinions and Tom is certainly as entitled to them as much as anyone else, time will tell if he is right I guess about Uche.

Whilst DC not quite in the frame perhaps an indication he'll be featuring in available managers odds for the near future.

He is drifting at least was 16/1 this morning, imagine the 5 year contract would put some off though as it should mean we'd be wanting big money if he was approached.

That said no guarantee he would go, he turned Leeds down and does seem loyal if you treat him right which we have.

Interestingly a few L1 managers have turned down a move to the level above, Bonner rejected the Rotherham job, Ainsworth Blackburn i think it was and Schumacher turned down one the other week but cant remember who that one was!

If Proctor and Wilson are still gonna be injured for most of Jan then obviously we need goals, but with Hughes in the side in 12/13 we went from contenders to win the league to barely scraping 3rd so I'm not sure he's the best example.

Its often said this that we spent in January and signed players to get us over the line but our form actually was poorer the second half of the season, we only won 4 of our last 16 games so is maybe a bit of a myth.

  11. What's your best moment of the season?

Has to be the injury time against Orient and Proctor's winner, was the first win I had seen live in 20 months and felt a ghost had bee laid to rest from Tranmere last season... until we played Sutton days later anyway!

    What's the worst?

Walsall was bad... but it was that bad I could be angry about it, Oldham for me was worse, they were absolute dross and we should of been way out of sight and likely would have been had it been for any fit strikers! Felt a mugging and the defending was terrible but you know its bad when their fans rather than gloat were messaging on twitter suggesting we call crime watch!

What do Vale need to do in January to get promoted?

Dominant centre half who's solid in the air, I always bang on about Piergianni but he's exactly the type I would love to have! Another striker is a must to cover for injuries, if greedy maybe two of them, we cant afford to be in this situation again if we are to challenge.

  12. It’s a great interview, some great stuff he talks about which is an eye opener; things like Smurf and getting bonuses, love the bit about Griff slapping Jake Robinson in the tunnel against Shrewsbury to rough him up! Brilliant that.

The obvious bits that are talked about are interesting, seems Askey wasn’t great with him and rumours were abound that was the case at the time.

In fairness on a forum I go on Swindon fans mention Flitcroft and his use of words to try and hook you, he is kind of like those motivational sales trainers you get but clear there’s something bubbling there between the two.

On the Clarke stuff, he didn’t give him much game time and if he had agreed to give him games and didn’t then it is poor from them, another player who messaged after I posted a farewell message (and assume it was sent to all fans on Twitter who wished him well) did mention he was led to believe he would be staying and was let go so does sound like it was a bit poorly handled at the end. Montano as well didn’t want to be here under him Pope mentions and he’s played under him before.

It’s a painful listen, some great memories and an unpleasant ending, obviously Covid took away the farewell he deserved with the fans but think he just wants to be told the truth and felt he wasn’t under the last two management teams.

Interesting to see what happens in terms of his predictions on the current squad, he makes some valid points, some I felt were harsh but overall you could feel the pain in his voice and regardless of what went on, how true it is or not what he’s said it’s really heart wrenching that he feels that way now after being arguably our only “legend” on the 21st century so far.

  13. My three would be:

Danny Cowley - obvious, winning culture, impressed with what he did with Lincoln. Feel he would look to build as well as he did with Lincoln.

Murray is an intriguing one, Mansfield fans speak well of him and does seem to have a good eye for players. At first it was a no no but more I’ve heard about him more I’m intrigued.

Derek Adams has done wonders with Morecambe with little money, good pedigree and would be a statement to take a side doing well’s manager. Sounds a bit of prickly personality wise which may sort the rumoured indiscipline

  14. This wasn’t publicised by Manny was it? I’d heard he wanted it kept secret out of respect for his Mrs.

No it was another “leak” or “rumour” that keep seemingly slipping out the club!

Like Monty had a knock which an hour later transpired to be Covid!
  15. Have they mentioned anything about ST holders?

I wrote to the club about the 10 game ticket holders months ago but didn’t hear back which was disappointing but glad it’s now been resolved.

Although doesn’t cover what we’ve paid likewise with the ST holders I believe it’s positive and I can maybe lose the £70 for the good of the club whereas couldn’t the £180 after doing the same last season with 5-6 stubs left to us.

Get a program too. Must say whilst didn’t get a reply on that how far the rest of the club has come customer service wise, notably the club shop! Replied to an email over Xmas on a Sunday night did Josh... and the service after the made an error with my order last week was outstanding.

Come a long way there so the ticket office not replying is the exception not the rule which wasn’t the case a couple of years ago!
