  1. Assume Funso will be ok, likely just rested after he was subbed at the weekend with the game all but gone.

These are in awful form, especially at home so its a chance to get back on the horse and really cement the league improvement, did wonder if last night's effort was us showing fatigue though with the games so thats something we may have to consider in the selection, their fans are moaning that they dont score from open play and play a slow passing style which is so slow it allows teams to organise by the time they've got it forward.... sounds familiar!

Comparing the Blackpool and Everton FA Cup holder victories. Against Blackpool, we were a tier 3 team against a tier 1 team that had appeared in the Final 3 times in 8 years, in a 20 year spell in the top tier, at the time more internationals than most top clubs. Quite an achievement.
Against Everton we were a mid table tier 2 with players who would go on to play in the top tier. Whose other achievement was the double over Stoke, which kept them out of the promotion places to the Prem.
Both great wins but are difficult to compare in different eras. Hopefully, history will be made against Boro.

Yeah in terms of an upset if we beat these in say Round 1 you'd probably not bat an eyelid, mid table L1 beating mid table Champ sides happen all the time, especially in the League Cup early rounds, on paper its less of an upset than when we beat QPR/Sheff Weds/United as a L2 club in this.

I liked him a lot in L2, but not for £150k, and definitely not for £500k!

Reminds me of Jordan Hugill in the way he's physical and puts himself about.

Wonder what Carlisle have paid? Didn't think they'd have any sort of cash!

Just had a takeover and are expecting to splash the cash a bit now.

There were less than 3k at Stockport v Aldershot (with a good number from Aldershot), and Walsall v Alfreton looked like a very low crowd. None of those sets of fans have a League Cup QF to plan and pay for.

As ever, context and comparison is useful.

Oh yeah I think whilst Crosby probably should leave the FA Cup attendance stick is unfair as it was always going to be terrible, we have 5 home games over Christmas in 17 days for a start and the Middlesborough one is obviously a big pull whilst the league games are ones ST holders have paid for. Look at Burton in the last round at their place.

Just going to leave this here as a reminder for many to get a grip.

We are yes but its the form that is the concern... had we not had the great start we'd be rooted now and the issue is if that form continues from this position we get relegated as simple as that, a couple of wins would ease things but the position today isn't the concern, if we'd had the form spread out and been 17th its less of a worry its purely trajectory thats the problem.

  6. The toilets were set for new year so not expected to be done as yet, in fairness after Middlesborough its unlikely to be that urgent I guess now.

They will be training somewhere surely?

The issue is when we were terrible last season it was all Carol is out of money etc, she does seem to go quiet at times though which maybe doesn't help and this is where rumours can fester, I heard one yesterday but as it's not been said anywhere else its pointless spreading it as may well be total rubbish.

Last season we couldn't afford the pies allegedly at one stage then we are signing Uche and spending on the pitch etc and made some decent signings which won't have come cheap wage wise (Ripley, Uche, etc) 100k plus on Loft.

In terms of replay's we haven't scored since in games I have been at but when we scored against Cheltenham they did play Alfie Devine's goal on the big screen.

  7. Its down to the athletic nature of players now, its not like the 90's where a player would have a few pints before playing BUT you can be over reliant on it, you have to use your eyes as well as to what is going on, whats the point in tactics to change games if all your subs are pre planned due to science?

    Oh dear.

Now hear me out... I have only been an armchair fan so far this season due to living in Birmingham, and significant changes in my personal circumstances significantly reducing my free time to get to VP.

The Boro game will be the first game I've been able to go to, realistically.

I've been keeping tabs on things via OVF this season on and off, especially given the horrendous run of results lately.

Something that I've been wondering, and I am sure that those of you who go regularly can address, is at the start of the season, many were really encouraged by the fact that we'd signed some big units at the back to make us more solid defensively, as well as Ripley. From what I can tell, it seems Ripley is the only positive out of this, plus perhaps Debrah, based on what people have been saying about recent performances.

Is it a case that these big lads have the turning circle of that ship that got stuck in the Suez Canal, or is it more a case that they are gentle giants, or both? I'm thinking Iacovitti, etc.

The striker issue worried me at the start of the season, and that has been bearing fruit of late, even with the addition of Uche, who I remembered as being decent in his first spell with us, but perhaps that was rose tinted spectacles. It does stagger me that a professional athlete can be weeks away from fitness when they've not been playing, which was something he said in a post-match interview a few games ago: surely they'd be out running all the time to get/keep fit? I appreciate match sharpness is perhaps something you only get from playing matches.

I did feel a slight bit of positivity when we went 2-0 up, and I could have fainted at that point in time, as I couldn't believe we'd managed to score 2. Something told me we would end up messing it up, as I've been going to the Vale too long not to think otherwise, Swindon and Wembley aside, perhaps.

Oddly I feared us blowing it! I was online though and saw 95 minutes - Corner (Port Vale) and thought, awesome job done... what happened there!

As we all know, Christmas is a great time for buying gifts for loved ones (or even ourselves). We also know that football shirts can make great presents.

Football shirts are expensive and we have released a lot of them this year. I have no problems with this and am happy to give my money to the club. What it does mean however is that we can’t buy them all at once and have to wait until a time like Christmas to get ones we would like.

If you’ve stuck with me this long, here is my point (of which I maybe should have led):

I went into the club shop today to pick up the pink keepers shirt for the missus. I had noticed the last few times I had been in that stock was dwindling. I asked the lad at the counter when they were expecting new stock to which he replied that there wasn’t to be any.

Both myself and my partner both bought the home shirts at the beginning of the season. We then bought the limited edition blue shirts because, well, they were marketed as limited. This is around £160 in shirts already.

I was told that the keepers shirts were also limited, but they were not marketed as such.

I am really disappointed because now I can’t get those shirts anymore (there’s a few black ones left in random sizes and a load of green, but I’m not fussed about the green).

It would have been a great Christmas present and now I can’t get them purely because I couldn’t afford all 5 shirts, times two, at the start of the season.

I’m not trying to moan, or cause a fuss with this. Does anyone know who I could contact about this? It just seems like an oversight and a loss of profits when we’re not even halfway through the season yet. I don’t want to just email the club shop because I already spoke to someone in there in person.

    Any advice?

I would have thought these would be easy to order if in high demand as they are templated (a lot of clubs who wear Puma have the exact same keeper kits and a decent amount use the pink one) have you tried to order on the website as apparently when my wife rang to get me the pink one it was available on there but not in the shop as they seem to run it separate from the warehouse or something along those lines.

Oddly for instance you cant get the third kit online now, not even the shorts or socks!

  10. What last night does is put huge pressure back on Crosby which was avoidable and his suggestion of resting key players after an hour for this means he has less excuses here.

The positive aside from the Pizza cup that is more of a friendly we are three unbeaten and the first 60 with a full side out did provide some real positives last night, play that way and we have a chance.

1 more win puts us half way to safety and need that by the end of the Blackpool game to be on track for 50 points so a win here and we have games left to make the second half of the season less pressured.

Sorry to say this doesn't add up. There are loads left if you go on the website. The Hamil looks like the Bycars used to look on a matchday with seats everywhere unsold. The Lorne St looks just over half full.

Still time but I can see an 8k gate on the cards !

Think the Ale and Vale pod were told 11k sold so far including away fans.

  12. I would go strong here really as a good chance to get to round 4 (surely we will eventually fall onto a good draw in one of these cups!) and building momentum is everything, especially with games coming thick and fast so to make it 3 unbeaten and confidence boosts etc.

Got a feeling the one outcome we don't want is most likely... extra time!

  13. The issue and most bonkers thing about this club is we have set on a 3-5-2 or variation of that for three seasons now and yet never really signed enough wing backs that are specialist in that role, or when we have we haven't had the depth for that position which is most critical in the system we want to play... its bonkers, last season's lesson's were never learnt.

We spent two years with a winger there in Worrall who luckily for us did a job there, we never really got the left back set in the promotion season with Benning in and out, Hussey not quite at the level and Gibbons injured.

Last season we ended up with and out of form Mal Benning and no options to change it bar Sammy Robinson and this season we've lost both wing backs to injury so shoe horning wingers and midfielder's in there.

Its poor and crucial to rectify it in January.

  14. This isn't the biggest game in our history, its a big cup game and one of our biggest cup games but league games can have bigger consequences long term.

This side of the millennium I would say Port Vale 2 Chesterfield 1 is the biggest game in the past 20 years purely for what was at stake and the consequence had we lost.

Exactly, like I've said before I'm not even that fussed about ST holders being able to get additional tickets. Think +1 is fairer, but choose your battles, accept it and move on. Being completely ignored / forgotten is unacceptable.

Members tickets from 6pm on 17th.

To note though no additional tickets can be purchased in the Paddock.

Exactly and Lincoln’s ground is really awful in the away end. Portaloo paradise and a low level view with rubbish legroom. Peterborough United want £29 this year for their wooden away end.

£25 for a league cup quarter final is bargain territory. Our prices are generally average, certainly not cheap but not expensive either. Although Arsenal did charge only £10 for the lower tier of all league cup games including the semi final, but then with the TV money and league ticket prices at over £100 for some games, they can afford charity.

I do think when the £20 barrier was broken lower league football started to feel more expensive, especially buying multiple tickets.

I don’t really think any true fans will mind £25, especially as I go to away games and see people spending loads of cash at other clubs on booze, hotdogs, programmes etc.

Don't Premier League Clubs have a £20 cap for away fans? Makes it nuts that you'd pay £9 more to watch Peterborough on a wooden bench compared to sitting at the Tottenham Stadium!

  17. It's an issue with football in general is the pricing in this country, not sure on pricing now but 15 years ago I paid £11 to sit in the Olympiastadion Berlin watching two top flight teams (Hertha and Werder Bremen) full of internationals (Klose, Klasnic, Mertesacker, Diego, Naldo, Boateng, Gilberto etc etc), there was 74,000 there, could have a beer in my seat, excellent set up, incredible atmosphere.

You pay more for some Non League football here!

If this game had been away at Man United and £30 a ticket we'd still have taken 7/8000 fans.

No-one has to buy food or drink at the ground. They can get organized and eat/drink before coming. They've got 6 weeks to think about that, and that gives them plenty of time to save up for tickets.

If it's floating fans you want, Saturday was £15 and we had barely 4000 in attendance.

Man City Away in the FA Cup was only about £15 if I recall?
