March 2022 v Mansfield last home league win midweek.

Think I'm right that last midweek league win was Salford April 2022. The Charsley winner.

    Stand to be corrected.

Correct, although if set on midweek you could possibly put Swindon in the Play Offs.

  2. I would be surprised if Moore resigned unless the club wanted that outcome, he has had 2 disasterous spells so his stock is down and walking away from a 5 year deal after 3 months wouldn't look great to future clubs would it?

That said if he goes he goes but we would need to be quick to get a new manager in as there is no one there to draw up a retained list and need to be on the ball in terms of signings.

If Cheltenham go and DC leaves I would move heaven and earth.

He got Vale Promoted not relying on Swindon and Mansfield Bottling it.

I don’t mean have him now but someone of his Ilk not like this Clown we have now.

If you don’t rate Adams then that’s your Perogative.

He’s won a Damn site more in Football both has a Player and a Manager than any other Manager in my Time has a Vale Fan.

But don’t let FACTS get in the Way Hey !

I would have Adams as a DOF in fairness.

The biggest problem we have it's a Tuesday night! Not won a midweek game in a very long while! Why? it does put serious questions about our fitness. Also we conceed a lot of late goals, mind you we conceded a lot anyway. Absolutely no steel in the side whatsoever nor has there been for sometime.

    21 games I think now.

  5. Hard to get excited for it, a Burton win against Cheltenham all but seals our fate regardless now.

I am partly hoping we just get put out of our misery as a win and the extended hope again to be extinguished come the final day is tough to take. We possibly need 7 points now so means going to Bolton and getting something, even if these bottlers had held out for the 2-2 Saturday we'd have had a chance but with GD on Burton it will be rough.

Only way 2 wins will do that I can see is if Shrewsbury lose all 3 of theirs as their GD is awful.

Think we will get a draw here personally which will do us little use.

  6. Livid at that, more livid than any of the many screw ups this season.

2-0 up, playing well, against a side with nothing to play for and us everything on the line and we come out second half like that? It was a disgrace. How do you be so different one half to the next, first half we did everything right, got stuck in, pumped the crowd up, energy was high, moved the ball well, got in their faces and took chances.

Second half we stood off from minute one, got deeper, lacked energy and looked dead on our feet. Weir for Uche was bizarre, if Uche is tired fair enough but surely push Garrity or play Massey if Loft is injured?

That said even if you sit back as we did you to concede 4 in 35 minutes was criminal.

We've thrown away L1 status likely now and I am hard pressed to be sad about it because the club and the players 100% deserve it, we are getting what we as a club deserve, its only the fans who suffer as per usual and dont deserve it.

    Its embarrassing it really is.

  7. Exeter have sold 300 so far in fairness.

Its a huge game, they are in form but likely to experiment a bit and our need is greater so the minimum we should have is more desire and determination to get those points.

If results go our way and we won then we could almost be there Tuesday if Burton-Cheltenham drew and we got a result. If Cheltenham get ahead of us on points it becomes very difficult, plus a win may bring Cambridge and Shrewsbury into the equation in terms of us catching them.

  8. How can League One have less games than League Two when both have the same amount of teams? Odd one!

the statement mentions ifollow ceasing domestic streaming which makes me wonder if the international streaming will remain?

I can see why Moore went with the tactics he did. As he could not see us beating them by going for it. Unfortunately it resulted in us hardly putting a glove on them, making us probably look worse than had he played a more attacking line up. Actually not probably but did. However bar for some rotten luck it could have come close to getting us a point. Yes I know they missed chances, but that's their problem.
The first goal to come seconds before half time, from two deflections, was awful luck. Timing could not have been worse. The penalty was Needless. Then an own goal for the third. I'm not saying if not for those we would have got a point. But for some awful luck, we could have come close. I know to watch it was awful, but to try and get that point, it was the only way to set up, with players we had. It didn't work out, as once we went behind we don't have the quality to overturn that sort of team. No need to go on about what Carlisle did. I would guess that was a bad day at the office and a weakened team.
I expected us to get beat by Peterborough. What I did not expect was Carlisle to beat Cheltenham. So we are still better off than I expected.
After that performance I feel the players will be strongly motivated for Exeter. Just need the Gas to get their players off the beach in Magaluff.
We do have a tougher run in than Cheltenham. But the do seem to have gone to pieces lately.
    So still hope.
Apologies for babbling on so much. Just hit a bored moment in the day.

Its mad with how wasteful they are JCH is on the bench for them! Imagine Poku - JCH - Mason-Clark as a front 3!

As dominant as they were the one blot would be as you say it needed us to stick the ball in the net for them (twice) and give a silly needless pen away.

  10. Which players can be signed after the January transfer deadline?

The only players that can be signed by Championship, League One and League Two clubs after the deadline passes are free agents. These are footballers who are not contracted to a club. Teams can sign free agents until a different deadline in mid-March.

There is, of course, nothing stopping clubs entering negotiations over future transfers ahead of the summer but these cannot be completed until the summer window opens.

  11. ooo where do I start...

Firstly last night doesn't change a great deal in terms of how we were before hand regards safety, it was always a 1 in 6 chance maybe of a result and most had written that one off... the same requirements for safety still exist we just didn't get the unlikely bonus so any fans screaming "we are down!" for example probably need to relax a little at this point.

But I was frustrated massively with last night in the manner we lost it, had we had a go, lost 3-0 due to their quality I would probably have been non fussed about it, they have some real quality and that was evident but to go to Peterborough United, a fellow LEAGUE ONE side who themselves hadn't been in stellar form and lost at home to Carlisle and set up more negatively than we did as a L2 side at the Etihad was absolutely embarrassing. We can't defend very well so it was always going to end one way. Why not press them? Get in their faces and have a go? Fans paid good money to travel for that, I felt mugged having paid a tenner to watch ifollow. Carlisle scored 3 there so guessing they didnt park the bus, they had 12 shots, 5 on target there and still had enough about them to limit them to 2 on target so no excuse to set up like San Marino, we've bottled that from the start and as good as they were its was easy when your under zero pressure.

Why did we think it wise to play the slowest back line we could muster against their pace? Plant was hung out to dry, a kid out of position against the best wide man in the division.

Walters was dreadful as well, he has huge potential but was out his depth last night.

Felt like we had written it off with Saturday/Tuesday in mind... a gamble that, but best see a response to show it was the right decision.

Your right. My memory is addled. Think we then went on a 6 game winning streak after that which is probably what I remember.

Yes, after losing to Bolton we went on to win 6 in a row, and 8 wins and a draw in 9 which fired us out of the mire into a very comfortable position. Looked doomed at one point with 3 wins in 25.

Weird season that, had 19 points in the first 10 games, 3 wins in the next 25 then 25 points in the next 9 before losing the last 2! If we'd had a modest mid 25 games we'd have easily made the play offs.

  13. Last night makes us favourites of the three to do it but relegation battles often have twists and turns and we only have 2 wins since December so its far from a given that with 2 wins in 18 games we will win 2 in 5.

Exeter are absolutely flying as well so need to keep focused.

  14. For what its worth, if we go down I keep Wilson as he is a very good L2 striker, in L1 I would as a third or fourth choice but thats dependent on having better striker options, I wouldn't want him as our best striker option which is the case currently.

It’s worth remembering we released Willo and, from the outside at least, appear to have only re-signed him after failing to sign our other targets.  I’d rather him than Loft but rather not keep him and Loft…..unless we sign an additional 3 strikers on top.

We didnt release Willo did we? We offered terms and they couldn't be agreed so he left.

Don't Bristol go to Cheltenham as well in the next 3? My only hope from that one is it's a local derby to some extent and Bristol you'd imagine will be taking 1000+ fans? You would hope they'd make some effort for them to appease their bad run a bit(even if they are safe).

Yeah the big issue for us is Cheltenham have Carlisle H, Bristol Rovers H, Burton A next three before three tough final fixures so it is possible they win all 3, they'd probably be bookies favourites to win each fixture, if that does happen then it would leave us needing 8 points, or likely win the three home games assuming we lose the two away due to goal difference and that is if they lost all 3 of their last games.

I think our fate lies largely with how Cheltenham do their next three games unfortunately. If they get 4-5 points max then we have a chance, otherwise winning all 3 home games and hoping we can overhaul Cambridge, Reading or Shrewsbury might come into it but thats a huge ask considering we've won 1 home game in months.

I have had a horrible feeling for a while that those two points thrown away V Fleetwood would come back to haunt us.

  17. Was all nicely relaxed knowing we were dead and buried, had accepted it now they dangle the carrot again!

Cheltenham have three good games on paper but to caveat that their form is equal to that of Carlisle the last 6 games and only a point better off the past 8 so no guarantees they win them, in fact if the teams around us repeat their form of the last 6 over the last games we would only need three more points to stay up, football isn't that simple of course but we are certainly in the mixer now to stay up.

It's hard for Port Vale in League One to be fair.

We've got to get somebody else in to oversee the football side now anyway. Time to go out and get a competent manager, turn around a football team used to losing, and get promotion from League Two quickly. I wonder if we can get somebody in to do that as well as David Flitcroft did it.

It doesn't have to be hard really if we do the basics right, there are plenty of smaller clubs or clubs of equal size doing ok at this level. Stevenage, Cobblers, Orient, Rovers, Exeter for example.

We just seem to have this "little old Port Vale" mentality and always have had for some reason.

  19. Right decision, I dont hate the bloke and can be balanced about the many positives (youth system, set up, DC, promotion squad) but he seemed more out of his depth in the role in L1.

The football side has been dire for 15 months now, record breakingly bad in some areas and it was his role overseeing the football so ultimately has to be the one to take responsibility, wish him well going forward and its key now we address the issues we have this summer and make the right choice in terms of replacement of dissolving the role. Will be tricky with no Garlick to fall back on for experience if we dont recruit a new DOF.
