Crosby went through what I regard as a deeply mistaken phase of playing two unfit strikers giving each 60 / 30 etc. So numbers are inflated.

Stats are stats - not how you choose to perceive them to suit your argument!

Well done Tony.......my flabber had never been so ghasted! I was so shaken that I couldn't compose a reply on the keyboard. A HC!!!!!!!! How dare Devine even utter those words concerning that post......I'm utterly incoherent with rage.

    I know...how very dare he???

Nice of us to pay wages to a half-fit player so he can get himself set up with another club once he's not knackered after 20 minutes. Very charitable. Then again, how are we expected to compete with the wages that a club like Wycombe <ovf censored> Wanderers are offering. They don't seem to be hampered by the market prices for strikers/ the exorbitant prices in the January transfer window.

    He hasn't gone yet...has he?

Carlisle manager was quoted saying the price Bradford are asking for is "ridiculous" ... so I'd say that's the end of that.

We were allegedly in for the player before Carlisle joined in...so we already knew the price.

Barrow have better players than us.

Barrow have a better manager than us.

11 on 11 tomorrow, Barrow would beat us.

We should be in for the likes of Cole Stockton.

Our “philosophy” is well and good and will probably make money.
The academy products. Sold. And others will go. Money.

Crosby. His style of play. Never ever ever will change. Tweeked but will always stay a constant. Like it or lump it.

Flitcroft. Earns money for Carol? He stays.

All I needed in my life today to know where the club is going is that Alfie Devine interview.

    Its football manipulation.

    Every question is thought out.

Every question will have been fed to Alfie.

Every question is now out there in social media to say to the suits at clubs higher than us that we are a good club.

You may as well have held Alfie down and said say what we want you to say.

I absolutely loved Alfie being here but if that’s the way football is going then it’s not for me.

    Its so robotic it’s untrue.

I ask the older generation in here…. Is football fun anymore? Is there real passion? I don’t see it. I honestly don’t see it. All I see is a business. I see Port Vale Football Club as a business. A business where Carol Shanahan wants to make money. Nothing wrong with that. But she doesn’t care. She doesn’t. She cares about money. And she, like any other football club owner will put on a front saying that they care, virtue signaling her silly little scarf, when in reality they don’t! They care about making money.

And don’t get me wrong, I’d rather have her in charge of the club than Smurthwaite, as one wants to make money whereas the other just wanted to steal money but wouldn’t it be lovely to take the politics out of everything.

I don’t want my club to be “robotic”. That’s what we are and that’s what fans can’t see. A robotic club making money for the owners. I want my club to sign the best players and go and challenge up the leagues.
A lot of this season has been <ovf censored>. Let’s not dress that up. But on the field, when Stockport and Wrexham come up next season, maybe Notts County, that’s more clubs surpassing us on the pitch.

Because when Carlisle, Fleetwood, Reading go down, that’s a lot harder to get points off than the latter mentioned.

The virtue signaling in this club might be ok for a long term plan but the hardcore supporter will just leave whilst the <ovf censored> on the pitch continues. Apart from cracks papered over this last month.

January 18th. Still no striker. Lost our two best players which weren’t ours in the first place. It’s all a bit of a philosophical mess!

As someone from the older generation - 68 years old, 60 years a Vale fan - yes there is still passion and fun...but posts like yours make it difficult to believe. I don't see where half of your post is coming from? "Carol Shanahan wants to make money...but she doesn't care"> What a crock of <ovf censored> 0 she's a Vale fan, first and foremost...and thank Goodness for that!

Alfie's interview? Exactly what should have been said so bigger clubs will trust us with other Alfie Devines in the future, which will help the Vale wherever we are! If you think Vale will be overtaken by Stockport, Wrexham and Notts Co - that may well depend on us, and where we are with our team-building? We have done reasonably well against teams around the top, this season  - a stronger Vale might do better no matter who those top teams are?

Robotic????? What a stupid comment! Robots don't make mistakes (unless they are programmed incorrectly?) - how many defensive mistakes have we rages against this season, alone?

If football is heading towards an era you don't like, you may need to find a different sport? It/'s not all good - admittedly - but it certainly isn't as bad or as bleak as you seem to think?

That’s the problem. You can’t build teams around players who leave after a few months back to their parent clubs. Loans should be support acts, but Arblaster and Devine have been key men. Develop the players yes, but we have relied on them a lot for our best results.

We haven't built a team around a couple of successful loanees...can't be done with having a limit on how many can figure in a squad...but, the loanees have certainly enhanced the team and I'm ok with that. More of the same for the future, please!! I think Ollie and Alfie being recalled and sent to a higher level is a testament to how well they've done with us, which will give the top clubs much more confidence in the Vale? As for the couple that didn't work out? Surprised at Kofi, as he's worked with AC before - but, maybe having to play in a defence making mistakes affected his confidence, too? As for Josh Thomas, some of us are disappointed that didn't work out, either...but maybe the next one will? Nothing is certain in any transfer deal.

    And?

Do you genuinely believe that a top 4 premiership side, a club with aspirations to be one of the best and biggest in the world, would give one of their 4 CB positions to a player on the basis of him playing well in league one for 4 months?

They might also take into account how he has played, previously, in the Prem and Champions' Leagues? Certainly be a squad player if he rediscovers his form?

The Blackpool and Swansea fans I know say he's rubbish, but if you have played 20 games for Liverpool and some are league or champions League games then you have got be half decent. All he's got be able do really is head the ball away, as we have conceded a stack of headed goals. I'm confident he's better than balmer put it that way.

That Ben Garrity's not much good, either...apparently?

I think it will be the norm to have 3 or 4 quality loans in, most teams seem to do it.

I think Forest got promotion with a lot of loans in their squad; and either Bolton or Derby did similar? It's generally less of a drain on resources, too.

I hope we get some reliable players In that are our own. When these lads go back in the summer we will be back at square 1.

Other clubs have used the loan market more so than we do - in theory, if we can't turn some of these loans into permanent signings, then the loanees we had just need to be replaced. We seem to be doing ok so far?

What I am saying is, we can't use injuries as an excuse, it is part of the modern game.

Of course we can use injuries as an excuse for some of our performances - we seem to have had an above-average amount over the last couple of seasons! And, again - it doesn't matter to us how other clubs fare? If we win against a weakened side, that's football...but it's the same if we lose for that reason, too.

Yes, many times and I would estimate the attendance closer to 10,000, more than half the seats empty and the ground holds 25000. I have also said many times, it ain’t right to call an attendance based on ticket sales and tickets just given away, the clue is given in the name “attendance “

Attendance simply means someone has attended a game, not whether they have paid for a ticket.

Pompey had 8 players out when they played us. Spurs v Brighton, 20 players out injured. We are not unique.

It doesn't matter a toss what other clubs do, or what happens to them! We may not be unique - that doesn't make the problem any less real. Also, I'd guess there may be a difference between Pompey's budget (their attendance is roughly 3 x ours!)?

The research is vital totally agree. However given that this year we have looked clearly short up front and have been wanting across midfield and defense since October, you’d think it has been clear and obvious that it needed to be done and done well...

We let 11 players go, in Summer and brought in 13 (4 on loan). We've since then sustained about 12 injuries - how the Hell are we supposed to legislate for that? Would you have broken any budget by bringing in another 12 players, just in case? Is that how you'd approach any transfer window? Bring in double the number of players we need, in case we get some injuries?
