  1. The 25% of time Willo is on the pitch is likely to be more productive than 100% of any other striker we've got, fingers crossed he can manage more, much more than that. There are strikers out there that are just as good and more durable than Willo but for one reason or another Vale cannot attract them. Possession is 9/10's of the law! Shame about Arblaster going back to the Blades, gonna be another tough find to replace him with similar ability.
  2. Wilder has lost his mojo for boxing. Impressive and easy win for Joshua, Wallin looked out of his depth.
  3. What ever has happened to prevent this guys registration you would hope that the FA or which ever club he plays for in the US would have the players best interests in mind first and foremost. The FA appear a bunch of vest wearing, nepotistic, bungling bureaucrats and youth soccer in the USA is becoming more and more organized and business like compared to 20 years ago so it's a guess where the problem lies. My son was a promising youth soccer player in the USA and I had him earmarked for trials at the Vale until shoulder injuries and failed surgeries screwed his chances. I would not have been a happy bunny if the club he played for or the FA got in the way of a potential footballing career. One kid he played with, who originated from the Ivory Coast, moved to France to try and make the grade but I don't believe he's been successful, he had connections in France, none in Boslem!
  4. Interesting how this has gone as in the 60's and 70's there were many strikers that moved between clubs who were "nailed on" to score goals for each club. I'm thinking of those who played for the Vale, the likes of Roy Chapman, Tony Richards, Bert Llewelyn, Ernie Moss, Ken Beamo etc. There's probably many more who were one club/one season wonders.
  5. Canelo just had too much power for Charlo, as a Light Middleweight/Middleweight Charlo just couldn't keep Canelo off him. I thought some of the body shots were gonna rip Charlo in two. Canelo kooks to have the upper body strength of a light heavyweight and devastating power.
  6. Just watched the highlights of Zhang vs Joyce II. Never seen or heard of Zhang before but he packs some power, some right hand that to KO Joyce. Rich pickings for a number of heavyweights against Zhang, mind blowing bouts and mind blowing money available. Could fit three Zou Shiming's into Zhang, he's a big boy.
  7. Will try to remember to watch this one. Didn't even know Crawford and Spence were fighting but was on me hols so couldn't have watched it. Watched the fight on Youtube, dominant performance by Crawford, surprised he beat Spence so easily. Easily the best P4P boxer in the world at the mo. Boxing is off the radar over here, the cage stuff dominates which is too neanderthal for me.
  8. Decent fight on this weekend in the USA I presume between the undefeated Mexican jamie Mungia and the Ukrainian Derevyanchenko at Middleweight on DAZN, 20 bucks if someone is wanting to stream it/watch it on tv.
  9. Spirited performance by Ryder and he caught Canelo a few times but the faces of the two boxers told the story, Ryder's face was marked and bloodied with blood from his nose whereas Canelo's looked untouched. Canelo's upper body strength and his ability to take a punch are astounding.
  10. Canelo fighting the British Boxer John Ryder for Canelo's Supper-Middleweight titles in Guadalajara, Mexico Saturday night. I wish the guy the best of luck but the odds must be against him wining. Guadalajara is not the happiest of hunting ground for English sport but at least it was the site of one of the English football team's best ever performance even though they lost, hope Ryder can go one better.
  11. Didn't watch the Tank vs Garcia fight live but watched it later, Tank does live up to his reputation. As well as the unexpected body shot that put Garcia down I wonder whether he realized at that stage of the fight that he wasn't gonna win and decided to stay down for self preservation, who can blame him Garcia's boxing record looks to me that his 20 odd fight undefeated record may be more down to the low quality of opponents faced, there's too many KO's in under 3 rounds. There's no question Garcia is a quality boxer but is he that good to fight someone like Davies and have a good chance to win.
  12. Tank vs Ryan Garcia on Saturday in Vegas, both undefeated and much anticipated fight but $85 for PPV.
  13. Just thought I'd mention the recent passing of a legend of the sport of boxing. Ken Buchanan, the Scotsman who became the undisputed World Lightweight Champion in the early 70's. Always remember his fight with Jim Watt, he of the boxing style of "Glasgow kiss, Glasgow kiss then left hook". Brutal 15 rounder which Buchanan won.
  14. Good performance by AJ against a resolute opponent. Must admit that the longer AJ's career goes on the more he appears to be Frank Bruno version 2. I wonder sometimes whether AJ is just too nice of a guy.
  15. Don't know whether its me or what but boxing seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. There seems to be a lack of advertising for the fights unless a search on the net is done, most of the bouts are shown on-line or PPV which have to be paid for over and above the sports tv that I already pay for, even the "up and comers" are shown on DAZN or ESPN+ and have to be paid for and there also seems to be a lack of mouth watering fights. It was a sad, sad day when Premier League Boxing Champions entered the sport and ultimately HBO pulled out.
  16. Didn't know they were fighting tonight, didn't receive an e-mail from DAZN and didn't look up the bouts that were on. Just watched the highlights, great win by Smith against the bigger Eubank Jr. Perhaps we know now why Eubank Jr didn't get in with GGG.
  17. Yep, I guess father time catches up with everyone in time. It's a real shame GGG didn't make his debut in the USA 'til he was 30 years old due to a combination of a long, stellar amateur career (340-0-5) and some German mismanagement of his early professional career. He said after the fight he planned to continue boxing at Middleweight, I must admit I hope he's sensible about it as fighters who've avoided him for years are now gonna to be queueing up to fight him.
  18. GGG ran on empty, he looked past it, right decision. No excuses for GGG but he hasn't looked the same fighter to me since he left Able Sanchez.
  19. GGG vs Canelo III on Saturday, bad blood still between them. IMHO GGG won the first fight, Adelaide Byrd's scorecard was the probably the worst scorecard in boxing history. Don Trella's scorecard gave round 7 to Canelo when even Byrd gave round 7 to GGG, Compubox backs up that GGG threw and landed more punches in round 7. Although the drugs issue clouded the 2nd fight credit to Canelo as he changed his tactics and was more of the aggressor but for me it was a still draw. The fight is being held at 168ibs so who does it benefit? I don't know but it sure is a super fight and it will be brutal. I feel GGG needs to take it out of the judges hands, but can he?
  20. The right decision for me but did AJ and his team get the strategy wrong. Usyk has a good chin and is an all action pressure fighter and if the fight goes the distance Usyk is likely to win on points. So for me AJ being the bigger, heavier and stronger man has to make that count. I would have thought he would get closer to Usk, man handle him, work inside to the body and sap Usk's strength and then stand off and unleash his power. Either that or take some risks, let his hands go more and throw some big shots to make Usk keep his hands at home, sometimes a boxer has to take one to give one. It seemed in the 9th AJ did try and use his strength and power and he had Usyk wobbling but it was back to normal in the 10th and the opportunity lost. Perhaps I'm underestimating Usyk's power and/or over estimating AJ's chin but watching the fight I just got the "deja vu" feeling. Perhaps a fight with Wilder is the way forward for AJ as Wilder fights soon and is gonna need a big name to get back amongst the "contenders".
  21. Yep agree with Crawford vs Spence, if only they could get it on we'd have two crackers to look forward to, Canelo vs GGG and that one. I'll look for the Dalton Smith fight on Youtube.
  22. Courageous fight by McKinson, he came to fight and came out swinging. Ortiz Jr's work was ferocious and intense and he put McKinson down with a body shot in the 8th and McKinson's corner threw in the towel in the 9th round, first time Ortiz had gone 9 rounds. Talk of a fight between Ortiz and Terrence Crawford.
  23. Interesting bout tonight, Vergil Ortiz (18-0-0, 18 by KO) fights a Brit, Michael McKinson (22-0-0, 2 by KO) in Fort Worth, Tx. Don't know anything about McKinson but doesn't look to have much of a KO punch, needs to have a good chin.
  24. Superb performance by Danny Garcia last night, completely out boxed the bigger man in Jose Benavidez and showed he's not just a left hook. What was the judge watching who scored the fight a draw, Mexican cartels at it again???? I know watching on tv we get the chance to see replays but that decision was downright incomprehensible..
  25. Yep, Dominating performance by Garcia who threw some devastating body shots. Fortuna looked outclassed and out gunned to me. Agree with what you say about Benn moving up to Middleweight to fight Eubanks Jr but is he fought the likes of Danny Garcia he'd have to be careful of Garcia's left hook, either Thurman or Garcia would be a good fight though and get him exposure in the USA. I thought the problem was with Eubank Snr, Eubank Jr appears to be "Normal" person when I've seen him interviewed. The stories from Eddie Hearn when he's been trying to deal with Eubank Snr are unreal. Apparently GGG vs Canelo III is being fought at Super Middleweight, unsure who that favors.
