  1. Yep, he called GGG out at the end of the fight on HBO, let's hope he doesn't lose his pen again. Must admit I was impressed with the win last night, he was very elusive.
  2. Superb display of boxing by Billy Joe Saunders last night. David Lemieux, an out and out slugger, hardly laid a glove on him. Let's hope Saunders is true to his word and gets in with GGG 'cause I hear there's some doubt about GGG's rematch with Canelo.
  3. It's what make the fight so intriguing, Saunders is a strong guy and technically pretty good but probably hasn't got the power to keep Lemieux off him and Lemieux's power is scary.
  4. Not showing the Frampton fight over here and I'll be out so can't watch it live on-line, will watch it on Youtube. Finally Billy Joe Saunders is going to fight a top tier Middleweight, he's in with David Lemieux on 16th December in Quebec, certainly going to find out how good his chin is. If Lemieux wins it sets up a rematch with GGG with the possibility of GGG becoming the undisputed Middleweight champion.
  5. Impressive performance by Wilder, in their first meeting Stiverne went the distance with him, the only man to do so. The current climate in boxing is for the best to fight the best so hopefully AJ vs Wilder will happen in 2018. Wilder has said he's prepared and willing to go to the UK to fight AJ and with a possible fight in front of 90k people at Wembley and huge world wide pay per view numbers it could land both men mega pay checks. It should and has to happen asap. It would be a fascinating fight, AJ's strength vs Wilder's agility and athleticism, may come down to who wants it most but I favor AJ.
  6. RR, I agree it really is a tough call and Takam will probably not get another chance at a World Championship. However, I'm guessing the ref had seen Takam hit AJ with his best shots and AJ had taken them and given AJ was so much bigger than Takam factored in the probability of a one punch KO was highly unlikely. Some of the Showtime commentators said the stoppage was premature.
  7. Yep it was a controversial stoppage but Takam needed a miracle to win and AJ had started to tee up on him. When a 254lb guy starts to put all his weight and technique into a punch without the threat of anything coming back then it's time for the ref to step in. On balance I thought the stoppage was the right thing to do, boxers sometimes need protecting from themselves, better be safe than sorry. Mouth watering prospect of AJ vs Deontay Wilder in 2018.
  8. Can't see anything than a Joshua win tonight, he'll be too big and strong for Takam.
  9. Yep, great fight between two great fighters and I also thought GGG won, it was as good a fight as Saunders/Monroe was a poor one. How a judge could score the fight 118 to 112 to Canelo just beggered belief, that score card meant GGG won only two rounds but Canelo won 10, clearly total nonsense. I agreed with Harold Lederman's score card (HBO scorer) where he had GGG up by three rounds, the Compubox numbers showed each landed similar enumber of power punches but GGG landed twice as many jabs as Canelo and GGG was clearly the aggressor. GGG was cautious in using his power presumably with respect to Canelo's power counter punching. That's the only good thing in that a re-match is possible but I'd like to see Saunders have to defend his title against a top tier middleweight (GGG, Canelo, Danny Jacobs or even David Lemieux) if only to shut him up.
  10. Big one tonight, going for GGG on points, he will out box Canelo just like he did David Lemieux, GGG has to keep away from Canelo's uppercut. The weigh-in was intense. I see Billy Joe Saunders wants to fight the winner, we'll see if he's true to his word or whether he will go after another middleweight without a real KO punch.
  11. Looks like the fight is confirmed. As with any heavy weight Pulev has a "Puncher's chance" even though he's not got a good KO percentage, his best chance is if Joshua doesn't turn up.
  12. I succummed to curiosity and watched Mayweather vs Mcgregor. The fight was better than expected as I've never seen Mayweather fight on the offensive, pushing an opponent back. The fight turned out to be just what it was, a skilled boxer vs a rugged fighter. The stoppage perhaps was a tad early but McGregor was taking hellish punishment and not offering anything back, better to be safe than sorry. Now for the main course, I think GGG will box Canelo like he boxed David Lemieux and win on points, can't wait.
  13. The Mayweather/McGregor circus is fast approaching, still undecided whether whether to watch or not. Admit I'm curious how a supremely technically gifted boxer albeit one who last fought nerly two years ago matches up to an MMA fighter, a sport I have never viewed or know anything about. If Mayweather is the boxer of old and the Queensbury Rules are adhered to then I'm going for a Mayweather win on points, if a boxer with the skill and power of Canelo ca'nt lay a glove on Mayweather I can't see McGregor doing so. However, Mcgregor looks the bigger guy and if he can rough up Mayweather and land one then Floyd may regret his decision to chase the money.
  14. I know what you're saying KK and agree for the most part but if there are not mandatory defenses with a penalty for not taking that defense then some boxers can choose not to fight or fight who they want eg Billy Joe Saunders the WBO Middleweight title holder. Saunders should have been made to defend his title against a top Middleweight by now someone like Golovkin, Danny Jacobs or David Lemieux but has only fought once in 20 months and has somehow now chosen to fight Willie Monrow Jr who's a good but not an elite fighter. For the future of boxing it's imperative the best fight the best and I would have thought if Billy Jow Saunders thinks he's the best then he should prove it and get in the ring with Golovkin, don't lose your pen when the contract's there to be signed. There's been a more ominous development in the US over the last ca 5 years in that a secretive guy called Al Haymon signed up about 175-200 of the world's best boxers, bought airtime on tv and staged boxing cards of fighters from his own "stable" headlined by World Champions fighting 3rd or 4th tier boxers. The result was the "Headline" bout lasted 2 or 3 rounds and was so obviously a miss match that fans stopped watching and shows cancelled on tv. I'm unsure where all this stands at the moment but the tide does seem to have been turned in the US as there have been some tremendous bouts recently with the best fighting the best, eg Adrien Broner vs Mikey Garcia, Errol Spence vs Kell Brook and Vasyl Lomachenko vs Marriaga and in Sept. GGG vs Canelo etc, etc.
  15. Looks like AJ's next fight could be a WBA mandatory defense against Luis Ortiz possibly in Vegas. http://www.bbc.com/sport/boxing/40824231
  16. As KK says his next fight will probably be his mandatory defense against the IBF champion Kubrat Pulev and I would hazard a guess that it would be in the UK. Fighters generally take a fight or two after an epic win usually against a presumed lesser fighter to make some money but there's always a potential banana skin lurking. If for what ever reason AJ and his camp don't like the look/prospect of Pulev they could relinquish the IBF belt and turn their attention to Wilder or Ortiz. Either fight in Vegas would be mega money particularly with Wlider, Ortiz is a Southpaw and a brute of a man and as an ex-Cuban is technically very sound and can dig so may be a tad awkward for AJ. Wilder is as tall as AJ and very athletic, can dig and comes from an extremely poor background so is hungry. I would anticipate AJ would fight Pulev in the UK and assuming he wins then Wilder in Vegas, the Wilder fight could well be the richest fight in history and I'm already dreaming of going!!
  17. There are two US boxers Deontay Wilder (38-0-0) and Luis Ortiz (23-0-0) who would both give AJ a good fight but I would favor AJ against both although all three can bang so each fight would probably be edge of the seat job.
  18. Good win by Chris Eubank Jr over Athur Abraham, Abraham has been a good fighter in his time but looked past it last night, didn't offer much back. Would like to see Eubanks Jr in with someone in their prime who will actually punch back eg the likes of DeGale, Ramirez or Benavidez.
  19. IMHO the four "Councils" have been good for boxing 'cause there are more fight that mean something. Imagine if there was only one World Championship belt/weight class and someone like Billy Joe Saunders had it who won't fight any other top class fighter. All this side stepping other fighters must stop, there should be mandatory defences and if you don't fight the mandatory challenger you lose the belt. The future of boxing is for the best fighters to fight in their respective weight classes but just like football, boxing attracts some dodgy characters and it's high time the promoters/managers/whoever realize that the best must fight the best, that's what the public want. This Al Haymon character signed up something like 175 boxers, bought airtime on tv and staged match-ups between Champions and 5th level fighters (within his stable) who were generally KO'd within 4 rounds, the viewing public quickly cottoned on.
  20. It's always a difficult proposition to score a boxing fight 'cause some judges favor who's landed the most punches whereas some favor who's landed the best/harder punches, there's no rule or dictate unless there's a KO! I watched the fight on Youtube and have no problem with the decision in favor of Horn with the proviso that being ringside is really the only way to judge the best/harder punches. Two judges scored it 115-113 in favor of Horn which seemed about right however, one judge scored the fight 117-111 to Horn which was a bit out of quilter IMHO. It was close and a difficult fight to score but Pacquiao didn't do enough for me, the 9th round was a big round for Pacquiao but Horn had his big moments to.
  21. Oh heck I hope not, would have thought the British Boxing Board of Control wouldn't sanction the fight. Nigel Benn's fight (I think it was his last one) against Gerald McCellan was one of the greatest performances by any British Sportsman I've ever seen, courage, skill, will to survive and win at it's very best. I thought both Boxers didn't fight again after the bout, McCellan certainly didn't.
  22. Didn't watch it, went out for dinner and only got through half the golf, watched the remainder when I got back. Will look for the fights on HBO and/or Youtube. Believe Smith lost and Ward beat Kovalev with a contentious stoppage according to Paulie Malinagi.
  23. Andre Ward and Sergei Kovalev 2 takes place in Vegas tomorrow. IMHO Kovalev was robbed in the first fight and should have won, I doubt he'll let it go to the judges a second time.
  24. For me an absolute farce, I won't be paying to watch it.
