Maybe they were the cheapest available?

At the start of the season our budget wasn't small compared to other league 2 teams. Its a problem now as we need to strengthen, but thats partly because the squad and signing were not right from the start.

I agree that the youth system has been extremely poor, and to be honest I can hardly see the point of it unless its improved.

Andy, maybe the majority of that budget was already tied up. Bearing in mind we had to ship out before we could sign....

4-5 yrs ago we reached the qtr finals of FA youth cup. A number of that side could have been good enough, however managers released them all. Poor show as all involved in the youth team at that time preached about how many up and coming stars we had. What about the lad Rys-jones (goal keeper). He was rated and we let him go, now playing in Greece.

Adams got rid of Kris Taylor, one of our left backs and has obviously realised that the player he got to cover him isn't up to it. Taylor wasn't a world beater but he was better than some of the bodies we got in.

To be honest Kris Taylor struggled against pace and had he remained and played yesterday he would have made our back four the slowest we would ever have had. We urgently need an injection of pace through out the side, specifically in the full-back, centre-half and forward areas.

Maybe, but again, this is the squad micky built. He offered contracts to them all and had a budget to work with which was no different (and usually better) than most teams in this division. His hands are tied now, yes, but not at the start of the season. Added to that, those he shipped out would have probably done better than those he replaced them with. If Kris Taylor was here, would he have played Loft at left back? Not saying Taylor was brilliant, but he was obviously better than Roe/Green/O'connor

None of those from that squad have gone on to play at a decent level which probably indicates the right decisions were made in releasing them sadly.

I agree , but we dont know the financials, maybe Taylor was on a large wage and he could have got some squad fillers in, hoping that Collins stayed fit.....

Injuries havent helped, nor has the drop in form of many players, probably due to low crowd attendance and lack of atmosphere....

Exactly my point, but the real question we should be asking is why dont they make the step up?

Simply I would imagine as they don't have the right mental resolve and don't have sufficient physical or mental capacity to progress.

The coaching set-up must also be reviewed (Newton was right about that) as it is their explicit job to progress players to the first team which with the odd exception they have failed significantly to do. I for one wouldn't mind scrapping the youth set up completely for all the use it is in it's current state.

Coaching after they progress to the first-team should also be under scrutiny as for example Martin's performance yesterday was bewildering. Two of his kicks went directly out of play yesterday and he didn't need fans getting on his back as half his team mates were doing that to him.

Spot on.

Just wish Adams could see this.
