Northampton sack Austin

I notice the delightful Dean Austin has had the bullet at Northampton. Not surprised, after his comments about their defeat at Vale Park I said he'd be gone before Christmas - I was way out on that one, I should have had a few quid on it!

How do these buffoons get manager's jobs? You only have to see a few of their post match interviews to see they haven't a clue what they're doing. It always amazes me how people who were decent players playing at a decent level know so little about putting together a decent side. They must spend their playing careers in some kind of bubble.

Think that's very harsh, and coloured by his comments after the game against us, (which, to be honest, are not for Vale supporter audience, but more for media/own fans, so I can understand - nb. never get too worked up about things like that, with the honourable exception of Martin "we should be coming to places like this and winning" Bell-end Allen.)

Austin came across very well in one of the Michael Calvin books (can't remember which one) - has done a decent apprenticeship in terms of scouting and coaching, without really getting an opportunity to step up to be a number one. After Bruno, I thought that if the intended route was to go for a novice, he would have been a reasonable shout. Being a purist in League 2 is a terrible idea, but can't knock someone for trying something different.

He'll probably go back into coaching I would think.

Very fair comment godfather and you may well be right but the bit that really did it for me was when he said in an interview that he was the man for the job and that 'if anyone thinks they can come in and do a better job with that lot, well good luck with that one.' When a manager publically says that you know he's switched his players off, it's awful management.

Maybe the pressure caused him to resort to the rhetoric of failure but he did himself no favours blaming everyone and everything for his team not winning.
