Northampton sack Austin

I notice the delightful Dean Austin has had the bullet at Northampton. Not surprised, after his comments about their defeat at Vale Park I said he'd be gone before Christmas - I was way out on that one, I should have had a few quid on it!

How do these buffoons get manager's jobs? You only have to see a few of their post match interviews to see they haven't a clue what they're doing. It always amazes me how people who were decent players playing at a decent level know so little about putting together a decent side. They must spend their playing careers in some kind of bubble.

In some sort of defence of Austin it should not be forgotten that as “basket case” clubs go, Northampton are top of the tree.

Police investigations continue into the disappearance of some £10M worth of public money which was loaned to the club by the council to finish that grandstand, which to date remains unfinished. Yet no trace of the £10M can be found.

We know only too well what problems can be caused by an unstable leadership. Northampton’s plight however makes ours look like child’s play.

Whether Austin is a decent manager or not, I don’t know. But his job must have bordered on the impossible given the circumstances surrounding the club as a whole.

Didn’t Rob Page comment on how ambitious they were?

QUOTE=RailwayRowdy;830004]I think in Page’s case he was so desperate to get away from Smurfthwaite that he would have taken the Northampton job.

Looks like they have made it up RP was in Smurfs box on Saturday:smile:

I accept Northampton are a basket case and the manager's task there is an incredibly difficult one right now but I formed my opinion on Austin as a manager based on the utter drivel he's been spouting about his players and his classic manager-moans about officials, opposition and the like. Listen to his post match interview at Vale Park, absolutely classic defeated manager rubbish where he's imagined a game completely different to anyone else who witnessed it. You can't be a good manager if you're not even honest with yourself!

They've struggled massively with managers since Wilder left. Against us they just looked like they were going through the motions. Hard to believe they went to Colchester and won. Maybe there's an expectation there as well because last time they were in this league they ran away with it.

I can’t disagree with any of your comments.

Totally agree. It seems "total football" (sic) doesn't work in League Two :whistling:
