The 'like/unlike' button

I'd been off the site for a couple of days and was trawling through what had been posted in the interim, clicking green or red buttons against certain posts as was my wont, until I changed page (no, not the manager :)) and they greyed out. They didn't come back up when I clicked onto other threads either; I checked and I'm still logged in, I even tried coming out altogether and going back in but it made no difference - I can't make even this simple comment against the postings of Valiant 593 and Bookworm.*

Has someone decided to limit how many times this feature can be used?

Yes. Me. ;)

It's now got a limit on it to prevent what I saw was "trolling" - where certain posters were red arrowing every post by people they didn't agree with. By limiting the number of thumbs up per day, I hope it will only be used on posts that people genuinely agree/disagree with rather than indiscriminately.

It does nothing but promote silent bullying anyway Rob.

Why not get rid altogether?

I think it highlights popular and unpopular posts. I sometimes browse a thread and a post with lots of thumbs up will catch my eye. I find it useful that way. I also think it allows people to disagree with a post that they really dislike without getting engaging in personal abuse. If it wasn't there I think we'd have a lot more abusive replies.

So, I think saying it "does nothing but promote silent bullying" is a generalisation and incorrect. Sorry, I disagree with you on this one.
