Are we due a windfall courtesy of QPR?

QPR could be fined around £50m by the Football League if they are relegated back into the Championship. As I understand it any Fair Play fines are redistributed among the league clubs so Vale could be getting a few bob next season.

 

Bear with me 'cos it's a complex story:

 

QPR had losses of around £70m (yes, really - even with a £30m parachute payment they genuinely managed to lose 70m in 12 months - staggering!) when they were promoted from the Championship. Under fair play rules, they could be due a fine of £50m.

 

QPR dispute it all. They reported their losses for that season at only £9m after their directors wiped off £60m in loans. HOWEVER, it appears that practice isn't allowed by the League ("The Football League's own FFP rules explicitly rule out that related party moves of the kind QPR have undertaken. The League rule out such moves in order to prevent 'artificially' lowered losses.").

 

If QPR refuse to pay then technically they could be booted out of the FL (and presumably they'd apply for the Conference) but the whole thing is with the lawyers at the moment.

 

It could be very interesting if QPR do get relegated...

They paid out £75m (yes, really) in staff wages that season.

Rob,clubs can get away with almost anything in the prem especially as QPR's losses amount to small change to club owners but as you say things are different in the league,the fair play rulings are there for a purpose unlike the greed is good league where imaginative accounting and downright dishonesty rule the day.
