You're right regarding MA's mind games and approach to post-match interviews, but this time I do think there's an issue and Pope has been so absent on the pitch it has to center on him and the rest I'm sure we'll find out in due course.

Even playing dodds in the hole behind a target man would help as we would effectively become 451 when defending. Lines and loft, whilst both talented footballers may not offer us the right balance between attack and defence, especially away from home.

We won't keep many, if any, clean sheets with the present team. Central midfield is a huge problem and the organisation of the back four leaves mush to be desired. Griffith is essential as a midfield defender and organiser. Did anyone notice the speed and accuracy of the attack for Oldham's opening goal or even the movement of Rooney to get on the end of the cross.

Clean sheets will come, it's not been the defence that has been a problem.

Today against Oldham was the first time in well over a year that Vale have conceded 3 goals in any game. No league club scored more than 2 against Vale last season.

It's also worth noting that we have played 5 games including the league cup, and the 5 teams we have played against are all in the top 8 of League One. And before one of our resident smartasses says that it is because they have played against us that they are high in the division, it hasn't helped Walsall (as it was a cup game) or Bradford who we beat, or Brentford.

Yes, a difficult start, but keep it in context.

He was poor yesterday, though he has been excellent in the other 4 games. I'm expecting news of Doumbe joining this week...

He has played there before for our reserves and youth side but that was a long time ago but he's a good defender so will adapt. But I agree, You sign players who play the position You want.
