  1. There are three acceptable reasons. First we got promoted in 2021/22 and needed new players at a higher level. Even after building up the team we werent good enough and lucky to avoid relegation in 2022/23 prompting more change. We are making max use of players on loan. They are often changed at each window and especially young players.
  2. I'm very surprised by this one. If he was good enough to play in the Premier League this season or Championship next season then surely he'd be playing regularly for PV now. But what will be will be. Close the cash register / print off the debit card receipt. Good luck to Tommy. Take the chance.
  3. If the club sticks up a new block of toilets. That's capital expenditure and will create fixed assets that go in the balance sheet. This asset will then be depreciated over an acceptable number of years - say 30 years. Some parts of the asset like the building might be 50 years plus. The charge to the profit and loss account annually will be depreciation. On the funding side the club may take out loans or leases which would also create charges to the profit and loss account.
  4. Yes, Barnsley are trying to play at Championship level next season. I think Kacper Lopata needs to play games but is part of their long term plans. I was disappointed Williams didn't start last Saturday. He's out now. But I've been fed up of Port Vale having a central defence that's too small - albeit Debra helped on that front. Surely Port Vale had some contractual influence over Williams loan from Liverpool. If he's not fit very soon he can't come .....
  5. I'm disappointed about this. I thought Williams was what we needed. Likely good on the ball and tall. But he's not coming. I don't think Liverpool are a club that mess people about and so he likely is injured. He didn't play for Aberdeen, an SPL team with about PV's level. So that's strange. Big guys break more easily?
  6. Carlisle are 10 points behind 5th bottom Port Vale having played 3 games more. The absolute stupidity of us managing to lose from a winning position a few weeks ago is obvious. They would be on 17 points and bottom whilst PV would be on 33 points in 14th with games in hand. We need the manager and players to stop blowing it.
  7. Look, there is a Wright's Pie shop in Burslem. I'm happy. More seriously, we just have to give it a go. Crosby is hopefully learning.
  8. Need to bandage up the one we signed already.
  9. I hope it's written in the contract! More practically, I'm OK with the players behind the centre forward having position with flexibility. The key criteria here is forwards and strikers must create and score.
  10. Alex Mighten looks a good signing to me. Very pleased. In front of a good set of forwards we now need to get the best out of Loft as the big front man. I assume Uche will be out of a spell. Any concerns. I cant see how we can be effective without a target man type player. Maybe playing on the break away from home. We need to balance good technical players with the physicality to win and retain the ball in midfield. Our young starlets were given a lesson last Saturday. But I have hope we will be fine.
  11. I don't understand why he didn't strip off and run on. He could have pointed to his private parts and given a clear message to the ref that he's a dh or a w. On balance less threatening.
  12. We scored 3 goals v Charlton without Garrity. Others have to step up. Uche did score v Charlton, but I think Loft can step into that role if the big front man approach is retained.
  13. It depends on the view of the young players. For example, I thought Shorrock gave a good account of himself v Portsmouth. Now before that game, I thought he was miles off being ready for L1. These young players, who looked to need another year at least when we played Crewe, are possibly much more up to the level than I thought. But there is risk in all of this of course.
  14. Except when we play a team as strong as Portsmouth I think we will have enough going forward to score goals. Last season and this season we've had big problems at left wing back and must do something about it.
  15. Left wing back and can play central defender. We have a need in that left wing back area. He's also played for Peterborough and is clearly at L1 standard.
  16. I have not been perturbed by our young players coming into the first team squad. All that I have seen have a good level of ability. But it's a step up to the men's game and, Plant aside, they need to work on developing physically. I thought Shorrock showed good progress coming on against Portsmouth. But equally what happens when you play two such players as the central midfield against a strong team was also very evident on Saturday. They get a very severe lesson in the difference between reserve / youth football and top of L1 football.
  17. If Crosby plays the right way the team / squad can share goals around effectively. I'm still hoping Uche will prove effective in the second half of the season and Loft can be got playing well. We massively needed to sort the defence and I'm hoping Williams will significantly help that. I wish we weren't playing Portsmouth first game after a lay off with new signings. But they aren't Man City etc.
  18. I'm suspecting manager of Germany after the Euro Championship. I'll have a bet on Roberto De Zerbi to Liverpool.
  19. Klopp is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. A chance for Crosby to step up.
  20. An investigator can bring some soul to an investigation. It is important not to go off on a witch hunt where the investigator starts off only looking at proving guilt. The point of investigation is to look for innocence, guilt and anything in between with an open mind. The Post Office prosecutions are a prime example where this balance doesn't seemed to have happened leading to gross injustice and serious harm to the welfare of many post masters and their wider family etc.
  21. The young players handed contracts need to be ready to play regularly in the team next season. With strikers it depends on whether we keep Uche. I'm happy we have enough up front for the remainder of the season if he is staying. Loft needs to be revitalised. Get him fit, get him some game time, let's see what he has actually got when fully functional. We have enough going forward for the moment. We've strengthened overall in midfield and at the back. I think we can climb the league. It's very frustrating we have to play Portsmouth on Saturday, but we can get a result.
  22. Oatcakes, pikelets and cheese (with or without tinned tomatoes) do not make the players run faster.
  23. I'm thinking Flickers plus improved pitch have done well this and previous window.
  24. He was. The discussion moved on to the underpinning issues. Mitigation comes after investigation and prosecution. It may influence sentencing or not. As an auditor, investigator and risk manager - in my career - I find and bring the facts forward to decision makers. That's it. I don't care, for example, if a person stole money to fund an affair with a secret lover. They just broke the law. I might mention in a report they told me that was their motivation for committing the offence / crime. But it won't alter the core findings, conclusions and recommendations arising from the investigation I put in the report. I appreciate you want to bring sympathy, empathy and support etc. So the offending person here - Toney - does have issues that need treatment and support. But for the investigator that's something that comes after the case has been proven and carried out by someone else competent to help.
  25. It's a reminder of the fact the Premier League is currently the strongest competition in the world. I know we didn't help ourselves playing Middlesbrough, but they were a good side playing slick football with a tight defence.
