Well. nothings happened today and the coaching staff news is only 3 days old.

Do you want them to make something up?

Oh grow up you clown! Most fitting by the way 🤪

What would you have liked to see them put on the website in it's place then today?

"News" as implied in the word, refers to something that is current. Not something that's almost a week old! What's your definition of up to date? Oh, BTW, today's "news": we lost 3-0 at Pride Park!

  3. Interesting developments on the coaching side announced today on the PV official website.  An assistant manager plus 3 other coaches appointed.  Obviously DM will now have his own backroom team and hopefully, that will be beneficial to us on the playing side.

However, this poses some questions: why wasn't the 'whole package' put together at the same time as DM's appointment.  We've already suffered four defeats out of five since DM arrived and there'll no doubt now be a further 'bedding-in' period as the new coaches get to know and work with the players and vice-versa.

Four additional salaries will also add hefty costs to the 'on-field budget pot'. This suggests there was money available in this 'pot.' This therefore begs the question why it wasn't utilised in recruiting a left-sided defender + a goalscorer?

Realistically however good these new coaches are and however well they fit into DM's longer term strategy, the fact remains that the meagre and unbalanced playing resources we have are not going to be any different!

To end on a more positive note, let's hope that because they've all worked together before, the new coaching team will  be able to give greater support to  DM and help to turn around our on-pitch fortunes, God knows, we need some changes soon.

League One is our average. It's not a disgrace for us to be in League Two, it's just the manner in which the playing squad has been neglected that is disgraceful, and the genuine concern that we will struggle in League Two next season.

That's a fair and rational summary.  For those of us who go back far enough (in my case to 1953!) historically, we've been in the lowest two leagues a lot more than we've been at second tier level!

Surely as a fan we all want Vale to climb to the highest it possibly can and not just want to be stable and hover bottom end league one and league two? otherwise what's the point.

I am lucky enough to see all the highs we had under Rudge but also many many lows but as a fan i would love nothing more than for the Vale to be battling it out in the Championship again

I agree.  Wouldn't we all?  Unfortunately, I expect it to be a considerable wait until we again reach the 'dizzy' heights of the second tier!

To be honest, all season we have been trying to get our so called forwards to score goals and they have all (I say all through gritted teeth) failed miserably. So playing no forwards can only be an improvement. Can't be any worse.
    So happy with that team.

I'm loving your optimism! But, as you quite rightly comment....our so called "forwards" having actually been scoring profusely!  Let's see what this team and shape can produce.

I know, apologies. At least I am kinda bothered but given up. During the Hank Twatiker years I don't think I even checked the scores for two seasons. I am heading that way again.

Don't apologise for being realistic.  I guess we all need optimism to continue being PV fans, but 99% of us are realists!

Is there anybody left on here who actually thinks we will stay up?

With the number of teams on less than 40 points, it is of course, mathematically possible, especially with one & two games in-hand on most of those teams. Do I really think we will avoid the drop?  No!

Moore must have known relegation was a distinct possibility, surely he can't walk if we do go down as:

His career will be on the downslide and he'll need to restore it to get a decent job

He'll look insincere if he signs a really long deal then walks away (as I don't think he'll be sacked.)

So what are people's thoughts on the chances that he will be our manager should we go down? I am not personally going to judge his performance until he's had a significant number of games under his belt having had the chance to shape his own team. I hope he gets the chance to do that whatever league we are in.

I don't think we can even look at his tactics / formations / subs too much at this stage as in all seriousness, what can he do? It'll only change when he brings players in to play the style he wants and he is responsible for managing them having had direct input.

There's absolutely no way he's going to walk!  Would you?  When there's a BIG fat payout of any unused part of a five and a half year contract if he's sacked!

No ambition! The season we almost made the playoffs for the top League, I wrote to Rudgie saying I hoped we'd strengthen the squad during the Summer, for a proper push. Rudgie replied saying he thought we would end up selling some players instead - we did, and we know what happened!

Billy Bell had to succumb to the laws of economics, just as the Shanahans are having to do. Although football is unlike any other business, at the end of the day, (and sadly for many fans) the books have to be balanced.  If not, the business (football club) goes under.

Just look at the number of clubs, large & small in all divisions of the Premiership/EFL struggling with finances and receiving points deductions and criticism from fans.  Who'd be a football club owner eh?!
