That team got 49 points and could have stayed up on the last day of the season.  This lot won’t get 40 points and have given up already.

Yep. Hooper had a great chance at the end as well. You’re right, that we won’t get 40.

  2. I also remember Nobby putting some weird teams out when he first came, relying on headless chickens like Tony Rougier (who’d walk into this team) and Marcus Bent (yes the one who went onto play for Everton) who I remember gave an absolute shocker of a performance away at Stockport one year.

I hated watching the 2007/08 relegation “Sennheiser” strip team more than any of them. That was depressing. I remember going to Millwall away on a dreary, cold day. It was absolutely horrible. We did nothing. It was notable from memory because Marc Richards made one of his earliest appearances as a sub.

That remains for me the most one sided display against Vale I have ever seen.

The Chasetown shambles was a disgrace and to have Sinnott managing was embarrassing, he has never come close to league management since. Signing Chasetown players was a daft move that was never going to work.

Was that the year we played Brentford away when Robbie was photographed for the first time out with his now-wife?? That was one of the limpest performances I’ve seen, so bad we left on 70 mins at 2-0 down and went the pubs on each of the 4 sides.

There was also the Bramall Lane horror show when they had the ball in the back of the net 8 times but thankfully 4 were chalked off (might have been the relegation year).

  4. I think the Bruno / Brown team from last time we got relegated was pretty horrific too. I seem to remember we had literally no CB’s so had to ship Andre Bikey and Ryan Taylor in, whilst relying on deadly JJ Hooper and big Reg for goals. I think Bikey and Des Walker’s lad (Tyler was it?) got injured just as they were starting to look good. I’d say this team is worse though, I literally cannot see us winning another game.

  5. Knowing Vale we’ll probably win this.

That said, if I were a betting man I’d say 4-0 Orient.

Hell we haven’t won a Tuesday game for, what, 2 years….. so why start now??!

I can’t actually believe there are Vale fans crazy enough to be going this.

    My team for Tuesday:

    Rotweiler

    Debrah-Smith-Kasper-Yak

    Garrity-Ojo

    Mighten-Wilson-Chislet-Plant

    OR

    Rotweiler

    Debrah-Smith-Kasper-Yak

    Lowe-Ojo

    Mighten-Wilson-Garrity-Plant

  6. I think we desperately need some action, incentive or whatever to re-connect the club & fans, like the Target 5,000 or Bradford’s £100 season tickets, just something to get the crowds in and engaged.

As I said in an earlier post, I’m sceptical that we’ll do anything next year. I think our form has been so bad since promotion that the losing mentality & generally fragility will take some changing.

As I sit here, why should I buy a season ticket next year??

I think while we continue to use terms like "deadwood" we will always struggle to recruit players. It suggests a mindset which doesn't value them. I know that players are mostly interested in money but team spirit is needed too.

The form table suggests there isn’t much “value”, so I’ll stick with “deadwood” I think.

    1. Sack off the 3 at the back/wingback system. It's boring, slow and doesn't suit the fanbase.

    2. Go 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 and sign some high quality wingers/forwards. Emphasis should be on goalscoring, not pointless possession or "aligning with the values of the club".

    3. Squad DNA: Fast, attacking football. With athletic, physical players that hate losing.

    4. It's easier to say who to keep:

Ripley, Clark, Garrity, Chislett, Yak (squad), Plant. The rest can go.

    5. The kids should go out on loan in non-league and play 40+ games.

The only thing I’d question is keeping Ripley. Really good goalie yes….but a desire to want to get too involved in games ‘complicates’ things. Plus keep Debrah, seems one of the few who gives a sh!t???

🤣 The other week I started the complex task of looking at where we were in the form tables when you included the 3 wins in 18 weeks we 'achieved' last season, 02/01/2023 onwards to today. And comparing it all the way down to the regional Isthmian divisions, the ones were Kidsgrove and Shepshed Dynamo play in. 388 clubs in total. I gave up as it was too depressing.

As it stands since September though, we're joint 142nd/144 in the EFL and 3 conference divisions. Dover only need to pick up a point to send us 143rd 🥳

He’s doing well is Flickers, must be due a payrise 🫣

That’s correct, but surely a FT contract instead of a PT contract is some sought of reward, as the boss is impressed with your performance.

Of course. How silly of me. This is Port Vale FC we’re talking about. Our club moto should be ‘why shoot yourself in one foot when you can do both’??

He’s gone from P/T to F/T of course he’s got a contract. Do you think he’s on zero hours. He’ll be there as long as the piper keeps paying him.

P/T to F/T?? So he’s had even more time to think about transfers and this is the best he’s served up?? Priceless.

Due to some other life stuff that’s happened this week, as well genuinely ruining my weekends with how angry this team made me, I decided not to go today. It’s the first time I’ve willingly not gone to a home game - bar when we starved out V2001.

Losing as many games as we have for 14 months is simply damaging for fans with any degree of emotional involvement. I had to remove myself. It felt wrong, I felt that I wasn’t a ‘proper’ fan - but I’ve had a much nicer afternoon than if I’d gone, as opposed to being seething and moody. I’m sure many will criticise me, but I couldn’t deal with another Saturday like this one would inevitably turn out.

Feel for the fans who went and had some degree of hope. This is an awful team with absolute no fight, and a manager who, whilst dealt a poor hand, is playing it horrendously. 1 point from 6, is it? It’s appalling, and there are questions he needs to answer next season.

Everything I’ve heard from Carol suggests that Flitcroft is going nowhere, and we all need to come to terms with it. We know he’s the problem, but unless she has a Damascene conversion in the next few weeks, he’ll be in situ come August.

For now, I’ve got my Saturdays back. I’ll a fool who’ll renew in the summer, but I’m not sure these players are worth the wasted Saturdays till May. The sun is coming, Euros in June, Carol won’t fold us. We will go down and the world won’t end. We’ll be back to 5000 total gates, and probably won’t come straight back up.

It’s rubbish, but what else can we do?

I agree. Exactly the same for me. I sacked it off to make an Apple Crumble for a family lunch tomorrow, that’s how angry, frustrated, disenchanted (insert own adjective) I’ve become this year. Crumble. Ummm.

The writing was on the wall from the word go…. no team should lose 7-0 and in hindsight, the flakiness we saw from that team has been prevalent since, especially since Ollie & Alfie went.

For me, the kick up the arse should have come in the aftermath of the Boro game. An historic, massive, winnable game for the club and one of the most abject, lifeless performances I’ve ever seen since the ‘rabbits in the headlights’ 6-0 at Villa Park many moons ago.

So here we are. We’ve been sleepwalking back into L2 for 18 months.

The number of times people like myself and others have been derided for being naysayers when it’s been as clear as the nose on your face.

Flitcroft will take us into the National League, I’ve no doubt about it. One word…. Bury.

Nice little touch by the club to be giving everyone a voucher for a free soft or hot drink today.

    Does it say……

    Dear Supporter,

Sorry that we have failed so dismally in the last 4 transfer windows  and that this has finally caught up with us meaning you’ll be suffering trips to the likes of Sutton, Crawley and Swindon again next year. By way of an apology, help yourself to a free hot chocolate or Fanta during today’s game because we’re all in it together.

    Yours,

    Flickers

Desperate yes , but getting Tom in on a part time basis until the end of the season could just galvanise the players and the fans . Jon Walters has been brought in by them down the road to do just that , and by all accounts it seems to be working .  How can Darren Moore rip into the squad when most of them will be here next season ? He needs to keep them on board , where as Tom could politely tell them what is expected of them , and how much the club means to the fans . Deperate times call for desperate measures - it might work it might not , but we have to try something , or we are just sleep walking to League Two .

The players are not as bad as they are playing . I AGREE TO AN EXTENT, BUT WE DON’T HAVE GOOD L1 PLAYERS IN EVERY POSITION. CONSEQUENTLY WE WILL STRUGGLE

Either they ain't being paid or they are deliberately taking Vale down because some supporters after games have gave them lots of verbal abuse and it's crushed them PROBABLY BOTH. SOME KNOW THEY WON’T BE HERE IN THE SUMMER AND, UNDERSTANDABLY, ARE PROTECTING THEMSELVES. OTHERS HAVEN’T THE STOMACH FOR THE FIGHT.

I know our hardcore are downright nasty maybe the players cannot cope with criticism because all of a sudden they playing poorly every game. FANS ARE RIGHTLY ANNOYED. THE LAST TWO YEARS HAVE BEEN NOTHING SHORT OF DISASTEROUS FROM AN ORGANISATIONAL PERSPECTIVE, LIKE A SLOW MOTION CAR CRASH.

I'm sure that Moores a good bloke but if Crosby could get a tune out of the players at times I've come out of Vale Park under him and thought that was good second half v Barnsley ,Wigan game , Reading game, Peterborough second half Bolton second half but having watched all bar  yesterday's game of Moores managing I'm not impressed at all at how it's going with him . I’LL REFER YOU TO THE HOME GAMES AGAINST BOLTON, DERBY & BORO….90 MINUTES OR ABSOLUTE DROSS, EVEN WITH OLLIE & ALFIE.

I don't care much for league 2 football with 35 away fans. WELL ITS COMING, SO BRACE YOURSELF!

How come Charlie Adam has got a tune out of a Fleetwood team ?

    He as no manager experience.

A MORE BALANCED SQUAD? A BETTER JANUARY WINDOW? BETTER CHARACTERS IN THE SQUAD?

Crosby had of kept up us NO CHANCE, WE WERE DOWN AS SOON AS THE WINDOW SHUT.

There was no point in sacking him after a transfer window

It was absurd and very stupid thing do. AGREED.

How come since Fleetwood 3-0 the only time  I felt they downed tools under Crosby they have downed tools ever since.

AGAIN LACK OF CHARACTER / NATURAL LEADERS IN THE TEAM. THE MANAGER CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH, ONCE THEY CROSS YHE WHITE LINE EVERY SINGLE PLAYER HAS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY & SHOW LEADERSHIP.

    Don’t entirely disagree….see answers above 👆
