OVF feature: There were clear warning signs about Peter Miller, nine years before he joined Port Vale

Peter Miller who has not paid for his Port Vale shares

The chairmanship of Peter Miller is one of the real lowpoints of Port Vale’s proud history. However, if the then board had paid due diligence and checked press stories about Miller from back in 2002, then surely he would never have been appointed. Who was Peter Miller? The lowpoint of the turbulent 2011-12 Port Vale […]

Nothing to do with Bill.

Due diligence in the face of constant pressure and abuse. Not likely.

Glad Millar was shown the door, looks a nasty piece of work.

Wrong.

He only stepped down when Miller was appointed so by very definition he was at the very centre of the affair. He was:

a) Aware Miller was coming on board

b) In charge until literally hours before Miller took over

c) Was CEO of the club until that time so should have been leading due diligence ahead of the appointment

So, unlike your false statement, the actual fact is it had everything to do with Bill.

He failed in his prime duty of care which was the welfare of the club allowing it to fall into the hands of people who almost destroyed it.

Rob I appreciate that is the veiw of many.

From BBs point of veiw, he was ousted and targeted by a select group.Frustration growing for some time, understandably.

I do not think BB ever intended to damage the club.. In fact I am adamant. No Vale fan would.

His priority at that time was for his own safety and personal health surely.

And also yes he was chair but he also left people in charge at the time Millar was appointed.

The duty of care remained, but with PD.

Finally, what did BB get out of the Miller appointment?

I still think history could well have been different had events on the pitch gone the club's way, and poffs reached.

It is hard to see BB in a similar vein to the likes of Miller.

Valiant 2001's ten resolutions after taking over the club included a promise to supporters to be accountable. Bill Bratt was a member of that board. By its own constitution he was accountable for the club's actions.

Whether Bill Bratt was feeling any "pressure" or not, he still had a duty of care to ensure the club continued in good hands.

My article doesn't compare Bratt with Miller. It does points out that the board (of which Bill Bratt was a member) didn't do due dilligence.

He got the cost of his shares back which is a damn sight more than me and many other supporters got for theirs.

My article doesn't say that the lack of due diligence was intentional or not. Just that it didn't appear to take place and it should have. Bill Bratt - as a member of that board - should have ensured it did.

Bratt first brought Miller to the table as part of the original Ameriturf investment announced in the Spring of that year.

Miller came back with a different turf company (Blue Sky) and had another go later on in 2011.
