Special Port Vale feature on 85/86 promotion team

The excellent FOOTBALL LEAGUE PAPER has a full page feature with photograph of the Port Vale 1985/86 Division 4 promotion team, well worth buying and a great read.

There is an opening article, as well as a 'Where are they now' that is very revealing - Osher Williams for instance works for the PFA in Manchester, Robbie Earle works as an analyst for NBC broadcasting in the US, Wayne Ebanks became a policeman in Staffs Poilice, John Williams works for Radio Solent....and you can also find out what all the others like Jim Arnold, Russ Bromage, Alan Webb, Pauil Maguire and many others are doing.

I also note on their L1 page that Barnsley are 2nd on current form with 13 pts from their last 6 games so we need to be at our very best tomorrow.

Glad you've brought this to the attention of Vale fans, DAP. The Football League Paper is a shining beacon in the dross of Premier League coverage and deserves our support. I thoroughly enjoyed the article you mentioned and would also draw Vale fans attention to the excellent supplement in the Shrewsbury programme, featuring a Vale team of slightly older vintage.

I am especially pleased with the League Paper and long may it continue to do well, it really it is needed so much as a buffer against Premier League superiority.

I'm not sure a lot of fans are as aware of it as they might be, and I am thinking of contacting them suggesting they pick a 'big match' for each club in L1 and L2 and maybe the Championship too, and give each fan a free copy - yes, it will cost but they would increase sales massively as people that read it once tend to want it every week. They could choose 2 or 3 games a weekend to give it out, starting in August.

The only thing I would like them to add is a small section covering midweek games from the previous week, at least giving teams and stats if not full match reports, so that they could be kept for a whole season as a record.
