He will end up relegating two clubs in one season (as we didn’t have a cat in hells chance after his 3 wins in 23 which is half a season).
Quite an achievement. Well done Darren
I would want to see what he could do with a transfer window (and am sure that is what will happen) but have to admit what felt a great appointment for us at the time is looking increasingly shaky by the game especially some of his in game management. No disputing his record across two clubs this season is horrible.

In the league one relegation watch thread, 43 people voted that vale wouldn’t be drawn into a relegation battle. Just out of interest would anyone like to put up their hand and admit they got it wrong?
I was one of them. What can I say I'd put it down to injuries at the time.

Stop the press we've scored a goal!!

That first touch from Uche is a pathetic sight.

It's a cruel joke by whoever it was that told Uche he was a professional footballer.

What the hell is that free kick 😂

Utterly pathetic.

Start as you mean to go on Vale. That is an awful pass and very lucky Vokes didn't score.

That’s astounding that all of the defence keep their places after that abortion on Saturday. Big call to not include our most effective attacker in Baylee unless they are now wrapping him up in cotton wool in case he gets injured ahead of any sale in the summer! Uche and Loft should provide some comedy between them anyway.

Prices are fair enough to me. Expect I’d have renewed even with a slight increase albeit through gritted teeth. Just want to see us more than anything show some intent in the transfer market once the window is open.
I think the club should try and be a bit more imaginative with matchday pricing though. Going to be a lot more difficult to entice walk ups in L2 unless we are in a promotion battle next season.

Who was Smith marking second half on all four goals he seems to have disappeared ,yet first half he was good as they all were ,whether lack of leadership second half he doesn't motivate ,he doesn'tdo any rollicking all he does is fall out with Ripley he's the captain more often than not and as being since Jan 2023 and its being all downhill .
Make uche captain let's have someone leading by example someone new
Smiths times up at the club .
For me part of a team who have conceded 141 goals in league one (probably the only ever present which is testimony to how he trains ).
However today's the present and he is part of a team who conceded 4 goals in one half when Vale were playing a must win game
To me you try someone different maybe they will be positive on the ball and bring it forwards to create a angle not take easy option and pass it that slowly opposition have time to get in shape .
Vale need quicken up in everything they do .
Debrah was pretty decent v BR I'd try him in middle .
Why not .
Vale see are stuck in there ways how often do you see the wing backs change sides .
I've never seen Grant cutting in from right jmw used do it to great effect scoring howitzers.
I think all our appointed manager have one common theme no imagination
Wake up managers think about how you can/we be better
While it’s fair to say Smith is not really captaincy material making Uche the captain is a really out there suggestion. Not sure what example you think he’s setting other than displaying some absolutely shocking conditioning to be blowing out of his arse after 50 minutes.

Heard Saturday that if we go down Moore will resign ( not to fussed ) but I think he will want to stay and get us back up asap. He won’t get a championship job any time soon anyway. VTID
Be surprised if he did resign. I very much doubt there’d be a huge amount of clubs wanting him right now. Guess it comes down to what backing he’s going to get here for the rebuild.

Loft is out so looking forward to probably Lowe being in our midfield again (dear God) with Garrity up front with Dipepa.
Starting to wonder if there’s any players in the youth team worth calling up. Can’t get much worse.
You know what I’d be minded to give Ben Lomax a look on the right. Can’t be worse defensively than Sang was in the second half yesterday. Can put Sang in the middle then. Maybe give Brazier a spot in the squad too. We’re not going to survive now so may as well see what some of the others have ahead of next season.

I think he’s been hamstrung by the squad. You can’t put lipstick on a pig. It’s still a poorly assembled bunch. But…. He hasn’t got a response from them, nothing, which either speaks volumes about their character and quality or his managerial ability.
Yeah for me let’s see what he can do with a transfer window and some of his own players. Even this isn’t going to be easy with so many under contract. There’ve been times I’ve been encouraged with how we’ve looked organised at the start of games but the in game management when teams make changes has been dismal / non-existent and needs to improve drastically for me.

I think it’s fairly established I’m no happy clapper. I’m gutted about relegation and have been forthcoming, for about 18 months, in criticising the very obvious mistakes being made.
Deapite this, the club hasn’t been killed, and Carol doesn’t deserve attacks on her character. She’s led with good intentions and made a dog’s dinner of it, to her personal financial cost of millions loaned that will never be repaid.
Being in League 2 again will be rubbish, but we’re not dead. It’s just another very disappointing chapter in Port Vale 2000-present.
Agree with all of that. Only thing I’d politely suggest to Carol is once the dust has settled on the season maybe revisit that open letter she wrote and just address that as that did leave a little bit of a sour taste. By next Saturday we’ll likely have an R next to our name so Moore needs to start having those conversations about who in this squad we go forward with.

I want to be charitable to DM as essentially he’s been asked to try and get something out of the <ovf censored> sandwich served up by Flitcroft. That said in a must win game today I think you can attribute a decent percentage of the blame on him for how that second half played out. We’ll see what happens when he has his own players.

One of the worst aspects is you knew within a couple of minutes of the second half starting how the pendulum was swinging and we did nothing to counter it. The moment they got one back you just knew the capitulation was coming. Pretty numb to it though at this point.

Wow this is an all timer of a collapse and that just wraps it up.

Anyone remember before the season start some of the boasts about how fit as a team they’d be etc? These ran out of steam around the 55th minute so wouldn’t say that aged well.

This half is an absolute disgrace. Hard to see us getting out of this now.

Big deflection there. Need to step it back up again now, we’ve been offering them a route back in since the half started.

That’s the most Uche thing have ever seen. Nice powerful run doing all the hard work then proceeds to hit it closer to the roof of the Hamil 😂

Not too fussed on Burton at the moment, we just need to focus on keeping doing what we are doing. The rest will take care of itself.
Really impressive how many turnovers we’ve forced off them so far. Very good half Vale.

Couldn’t ask for more than this so far. Conor Grant suddenly looks like Roberto Carlos on the left. Not sure if it’s his Plymouth connections making him see the red mist against Exeter. Garrity been outstanding too.

Ultimately we can analyse other things but point 1 is the key reason there. For a club like us and our budget if we get our recruitment wrong it's just too much to overcome. Obviously that's all Flitcrofts domain or was but really it needed someone to challenge him on how it was we had such an imbalanced squad which has come back to bite us.
