For me, Devine is played for what he can do, not for what he has done. Until he is consistent he shouldn’t be starting.

Phil are you trying to say he should be dropped (to the bench/out of the team)?   I thought he was only starting because he’s currently better/fitter than other players in that position. I agree he’s not a ‘first name on the team sheet’ player (at the moment few are) but he’s been used as either a replacement for Chizzy when Chizzy starts and vice versa. I suspect he’s starting more more recently because Chislett’s form has dipped since his return from injury.

Garrity is averaging nearly 1 in 3 from midfield. Looking like 10-15 easy for the season. 1/2 mil for him would be a nice return for a player signed as a L2 fringe player.

Why sell the only regular scorer we have ?

Only a few months into a 2 year deal, under 30 (27?) and if he does score double figures in L1 from midfield would think £0.5 mil is a minimum (would Blackpool have had a sell on or did we get Ben as free agent?) Of the few positives there are in this poor run, one is Crozzer finding a position/formation/way of playing that suits Ben, he’s still the ratting/competitive, box to box midfielder he’s always been but he’s now getting in positions to score more often compared to last season and more importantly actually scoring when he’s there.  It’s ironic that he is not the most technically gifted of our midfielders but currently has the most impact on the goals front at least.

I'm not suggesting otherwise - although maybe people forget that promotion seasons (and the atmosphere they bring) are the exception not the norm.

I've felt all along that the "improved fan experience" was Trojan-horse spiel for getting away fans as far as possible from home fans. This is clearly all part of going down the family-friendly route, and it won't be long before people are being turfed out for swearing.

I'm not sure how many people actually want this but it's clearly Carol's vision. It's probably one reason why a number of fans prioritise a few away games a season rather than have a home season ticket - because put bluntly it's more fun.

Sorry don’t understand this comment, aren’t they just as close now as they were before, in fact can’t more home fans be seated nearer away fans than they could previously (at the Bycars ends of both the paddock and Lorne St?

Early priority purchase, which in many cases, dependant upon the number of tickets available, would’ve by default guaranteed the season ticket holder entry and often the option to purchase more than one ticket. At the end of the season there were always plenty of vouchers left over in the booklet for  some reason…..

Yes, that’s probably why I don’t remember their terms of use - because I never had the need to use one! 😉

In the good days without all of these staggered releases it would be season ticket holders first choice but our seats were not reserved. We couldn't get our seats v Stoke, but tough. that's life. The amount of rules surrounding ticket sales and parts of stands netted off is a pretty sad state of affairs.

    Just keep it simple.

In the old old days weren’t there vouchers A, B, C….. at the back of the season ticket booklet for cup games?  Can’t remember there terms of use though ie were they for guaranteed entry or an early priority purchase scheme.

Guess they would just have to double up the number of portaloos? Bit of a logistical challenge to find the space while keeping ways clear for health and safety (evacuation routes etc)  though - the car park (by the shop/ticket office ) perhaps?

That Lorne Street figure is wrong. Some seats must have been double counted with Corporate and hospitality.

Thought Baggers got the figures from  the stadium manager who you would hope would know the numbers better than anyone? Is it the moving feast of the number of actual seats vs the number of available seats that’s changed again?

Well worth buying to contribute to the statue even if the reading is a little bit vanilla with things repeated.

I’m looking forward to the day Rudgie unveils his own statue at Vale Park….won’t be a dry eye in the place.

Legend and one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

Yep, it’s a means to an end for me too.

Wasn’t expecting a literary masterpiece or to see Vale stories (and his slant on them) I’d not heard from elsewhere in the last 40 years but it’s still an easy read and puts money in the coffers for the main event.

Will never, ever forget the Johnny Rudge’s black and white army chant at Anfield in the League Cup and seeing Liverpool fans  joining in with the rhythmic clapping too.  Still getting goosebumps and hairs standing up on the back of my neck writing about this now.

You would be amazed at the wages of players in non league and subsequent fees to take players.

I’m not going say who but a club wanted close to 6 figures for a NLN player in January even though he only had 5 months left on his contract. The player ending up moving to the club on a free in the summer. It’s absolutely bonkers and shows how difficult it is.

The wages some these lads are on, its now to the point it’s not viable to take a gamble unless the player is prepared to take a pay cut.

Taking a loan player to develop is so much cheaper and you get technically a better player. You just never know if they can adjust to men’s football.

To your point though there are gems in non league.

If big Jesse keeps on improving he could turn out to be one of those gems.  Hope his substitution was precautionary/tactical Tuesday night rather than another injury to add to the list, since he acquitted himself well whenever he was up against Cole Stockton before then and kept his cool up against one of the more, let’s say, physical teams in the league.

    Very true.

To be fair Stockton and Walker have been injured most of the season to date ,Presley can't get in the team, JCH sulking he didn't get one last pay day, Tyrese Simpson thinks he's a baller and therefore doesn't need to work hard because he had a good 3 months in L2 and Dale Taylor is not a proven goal scorer.

I would still love to have Stockton in our squad.

Sam Smith could be added to both lists too ie a name bandied about but out injured. Just goes to show what a gamble, and an expensive gamble at that, it can be signing any striker at this level.

He was sold because his wage was above the new wage limit Carol imposed for strikers. Not because he wanted to go.

Interesting. Do you know the Ts&Cs of any other players’ contracts? If under an existing contract how does Carol’s new wage limit make any difference to him or any other player on higher wages than the new limit?  Would have thought if we said we weren’t going to pay a player what was in their contract wouldn’t the club be in breach of contract and have to pay compensation anyway which would possibly equate to what would be paid if players stayed anyway?

  12. I understand the club may not have been fully in control of deciding the ticket pricing since it has to be agreed with the opposition who may have insisted on a minimum price and certain concessions etc.  However, I don’t quite understand why they’d want to change the established ticketing prioritisation system which I thought was designed specifically for games such as this when there’s potential for demand to outstrip supply.

I’m a ST holder and would be completely happy for those with more points than me to have first dibs, followed by other ST holders and then 1876 members ahead of any of my friends and family who don’t fall into any of those categories.  And happy to do that too at the expense, however likely/unlikely, of not being able to sit with friends and/or family who don’t ordinarily attend games.

I can only speak for myself obviously, but think the club would be wrong not to reconsider changing what appears to be a well intentioned if not well thought out prioritisation process for tickets for this game.  For whatever reason this fixture seems to have bamboozled our admin team so far, but given this is a once in 70 year experience I guess they deserve some slack.  However, I’ll be less forgiving when our progression in the league and to the later stages of major cup competitions inevitably becomes a more regular occurrence 😉.

So after pages and pages of fans saying how disgusting and ungrateful it is to point out that pricing U18s out of a potential memory-maker was 'Not Ideal Business Acumen', the club have agreed and have dropped prices for U18s!

Glad to see common sense prevail. Let's get as many folk in as we can, and hopefully make a few more fans who will buy STs next season.

Thought price drop was just for U12’s Joe?  I agree with your sentiment though even if 13-21 year olds are still paying more and those 62 and over paying less than the standard match day prices. Would be interesting to know what demographic profile for attendance the club used when considering the pricing structure - the play-off semi, Derby at home last season?  Being honest I don’t believe the overall attendance will be affected even after this change, think it will still be a sell out either way just the make up of the crowd will possibly be slightly different.

  14. ‘Season ticket holders will be able to purchase their tickets and any additional tickets from Tuesday 14thNovember 2023, general sale will commence on Tuesday 21st November 2023 but season ticket seats will remain reserved until Tuesday 5th December.

14th November – Season Ticket Holders (Who can purchase additional for friends and family)

21st November – General Sale (With Season Tickets reserved)

5th December – Season Tickets Released to General Sale’

This says ST holders can buy additional tickets for friends and family.  Is there a limit on how many I can buy?

Much better. My eyes thank you for it. I was giving praise at the beginning of pre-season as I liked the signings we were making. I'm not going to waste my own time searching through my previous posts, but you're welcome to do that. What has there been to praise since? Us getting a new scoreboard? Pre-season was terrible. To score two goals (one a penalty) against three teams lower in the leagues than us wasn't just something to be ignored because it was pre-season. It was clear evidence that we were still massively lacking as an attack going into the new season. Add to that us not bringing in a striker for X number of weeks and then ending up with a completely unproven kid and James Wilson re-signing, a player who has has only a handful of goals to his name in League One, and then losing the first game 7-0 which is an absolute piss take (as was the team selection) then I feel I should be forgiven for not showering the club and it's players and staff with ravishing praise for the time being.

I have no problem with posters providing criticism constructive or otherwise.  Just surprised to see it on the Happy Clapper thread or have I misunderstood why the thread was started to begin with or have I just missed the irony? I assumed anyone posting on this thread by definition saw themselves as Happy Clappers.  So now having ‘come out’ and posted this does that mean I now need to identify myself as ‘Happy Clapper’ on all my social media profiles and work emails?

You need to be resident and not allowed to spend over 91 days a year (averaged over 4 years) in the UK.

Didn’t know that but my friend’s son hardly ever comes ‘home’ so guess doesn’t have to worry about that caveat. He’s single (well at least not married yet) and no kids so imagine the lifestyle suits those early in their working life.  I think he spends a lot of his downtime in various eastern Med destinations and seems to only come back to the UK for Christmas, sometimes for birthday celebrations and in the Summer to go watch the cricket (internationals) with his mates from school/Uni.

TY, I’m not sure you have to pay tax in SA.

If you rent you have to live there 6 months or if you own a property just live there for 30 days per tax year to be exempt from income tax (20% if you have to pay). I’ve a friend whose son got a job there not long after he graduated 3/4 years ago and says his employer pays >5x the going rate he’d get in the UK and  he’s planning to ‘retire’ by the time he’s 30.

  20. Some lads in front of us yesterday started to count out loud 1, 2, 3 etc, trying to get everyone around to do the same, every time their keeper had the ball .  Might not be a bad idea for the crowd to start counting if only to shame the ‘keeper or the officials into getting rid of the ball within the 6 seconds or whatever it is.  The crowd being the audio clock will certainly get heard on the TV and audio streams and might be better than just booing/jeering?

I'm not against Conlon at LWB as mad as it sounds. He isn't getting into our midfield at the min, has a good left foot and engine. Anythings worth a try at this point but I don't think DC will fancy it.

Stone has plenty of time to get better. In the ideal situation he'd have had a few loans at lower levels now and would have had a good run of games to get him in form if needed.

Unfortunately our goalkeeper recruitment has meant that he's had to come and save the day from a mentalist Brazilian, a 7ft Czech bloke who couldn't jump and now an Oxford loanne who can't kick the ball to a player in a vale shirt. He's not a league one keeper right now, but he might be given time and he's the most consistent option we've had since DC came in.

TC at LWB could be a revelation and akin to Eddie Howe turning Joelinton from a forward into a box to box CM. Alternatively it could be just desperation and us being happy for any left footer to have a go there …..l’ll dig my boots out of the loft.

  22. I wouldn’t be a happy Sunderland fan - what is Neil’s motivation- what do Stoke really offer (apart from ££££££s) that Sunderland don’t? I wouldn’t say Stoke were a bigger club nor more ambitious - would have thought both teams would have equal ambitions of returning to the PL and both would have similar challenges to do so (a bigger driver for Sunderland perhaps being not to get left behind their megabucks arch rivals up the A19).
