I always try to post glass half full posts.

However my worry is that we haven't enough goalscorers to win us enough games.

    I firmly believe that 48 points stays up. That's 5 wins 3 draws. Fleetwood (twice), Shrewsbury,Cheltenham,Exeter, Lincoln,Wycombe,Orient(twice),Bristol,Burton,Northampton,Cambridge(last game)...all winnable

Reading is fated to lose,Wigan,Posh,Oxford, Borlton, Derby ,Stevenage...all games I don't feel confident we can win.

And yet there are enough games to get enough points. Formation is the key. The squad we have now should not continue with 3 CBs. We will get overrun in MF and there's too many gaps in our defence. The run of scoring 3 v Stevenage in the cup,2 v Barnsley,3 v Wigan and 3 v Blackpool, are a distant memory.

We have to put an unbeaten run together of the next 3 games before Posh away. Then the next 4 after that. Come the end of February I think we will a clearer idea of where we are....

All those clubs’ having similar worries (they may have plenty of forwards/strikers but not goal scorers) too DF. You forgot the 3 v Charlton too which was our last full game previous to last week - may feel like a distant memory may because of the abandonment and postponement in between.

I have two betting accounts and neither is offering any odds on relegation from L1. Last night before the close of the transfer window ppl were quoting what seemed extremely generous odds. Have the odds changed and what are the odds now and with which company

Try Oddschecker.com. Compares all the bookie’s odds we’re still 9’s at 6 of them.

Joe, we will only know come the end of the season, whether it’s been a master stroke or a self inflicted disaster. In my case and others it’s the inept performances on the pitch that are getting ppls backs up. If we had a poor squad that battled and lost fair enough, but we seem totally bankrupt of ideas. I stated that I thought we’d survive the drop but I think I’ll have to reconsider my opinion, with others around us strengthening in their forward ranks. If we do go down the financial impact will be massive. We’ve been riding the wave since Carol took over however the wave has certainly reached its peak. No one wants the club to go out of business by over spending, but get things right on the pitch or the oxygen of the club, the fans, will be reduced greatly. Reduced number of fans, reduced food and drink sales, reduced merch sales and sponsorship. I know I’m quoting the obvious but I’m very disappointed.

Agree about not judging the windows (both) until the end of the season after all they’re just a means to an end (an improved finishing position to the season before). However, I’d question that fellow candidates for the drop have strengthened their forward ranks, added to them yes but hand on heart I can’t think of any that would have got my pulse racing if we’d have signed them.

I’m neither confident we’ll stay up nor convinced we’ll go down there are other teams in the mix who’s fans are having very similar conversations as us, but as others have said what’s done is done, there’s not much we can do as fans now other than getting behind the players and giving them our FULL SUPPORT , whoever is selected and wherever they are asked to play. As the song goes ‘I’m Vale ‘til I die’ irrespective of how we play, where we play or which league we play in.

Didn’t happen. Which in a way is pleasing.

Yeah for sure. This half a season stuff needs to be ironed out imo I don't think it's acceptable and just adds pressure to the team when they just chip off elsewhere

The duration should be all or nothing the parent club just has to suck it up if a player does well, and equally the receiving club if the loan’s a dud, if a whole season ‘contract’ is agreed. If clubs want the flexibility of recall then only a 5 month (ie Aug through December) loan contract should be agreed.  Reduces the January window uncertainty.  Alternatively just only allow 5 month loan contracts that’s arguably what the season-long ones are anyway.

Incredible to see we’ve not signed at least 1 striker. We have so many holes in our squad and we are relying on kids who are not ready to play regular 1st team football to make a difference

I feel for Crosby,I really do.

It’s frightening in our midfield without Ojo and Garrity. Relying on kids…

    Gore 19

    Weir 22

    Walters 18

    Mighten 21

Game Changers on the bench Shorrock 16, Dipepa 17

This squad feels worse than the Micheal Brown relegation team.

Hopefully the adage if they’re good enough they’re old enough plays out.  Weir and Mighten are arguably as experienced (though younger) in terms of EFL ‘men’s’ football than Tom Sang, Jesse and the Yak  It’s uncomfortable because we’re not used to it……. yet.  Regards the midfield now we have the Ghost (Kacper - sorry) in defence Jason Lowe and Gore could be a DCM option with Weir further up?

    Big Jesse up front 🤔

Didn’t we play Peter Swan up front for a while when Foyle was long term injured? A vague recollection and may have only been for a couple of games or so - think it was the season we were first relegated from the Championship/equivalent….Oh!

Why aren’t all those so confident we’ll definitely be relegated not posting that they are piling in at 9-1? I’m not a gambler nor am I certain we’ll go down but must say I’m tempted to place a bet to potentially cover the cost of my L2 season ticket.  Who knows I might even see Flitters down the bookies doing the same with the player budget so he can then get a host of new signings in the Summer ahead of another promotion season.😉

I agree. Dislocated shoulders are usually OK aren't they once you get them back in the socket? I reckon he plays Saturday

How many loan players are we allowed to have?

Not sure if your recovery after a dislocation reference is tongue in cheek or wishful thinking but there is a possibility we won’t see Uche play for us  again this season (or after for that matter). Anything between 6 weeks and 3 months depending on the nature of the dislocation and the sport is what a professional athlete has to consider. Would think a footballer, especially one with Uche’s ‘style of play’, would be closer to the 3 month mark for them to be 100% ‘fit’.

I suspect by get rid means Fleetwood would like to recoup the transfer fee AND get all the wage off their budget. I suspect they are close to bankruptcy and the players signed last January will be a substantial wages. If they desperately need to sell they have a left sided player (Promise something) who looks really tidy and isn't high profile, so maybe meets our salary structure.

After their chairman went to prison they have lower gates than us with a squad on Derby or Portsmouth wages. That will not end well.

Think I’ve seen somewhere Carlisle are interested in signing Marriot. Probably see him as better value than Young from Bradford.

Strangely Tony I regularly watch football. In addition to Vale (ST holder) Leek Town (ST holder), Kidsgrove Athletic, Hanley Town and even Abbey Hulton United I do.

All the above enable me to watch a football match without VAR taking the piss out of the spectators who have turned up to watch a football match.

Only at the Vale do I see the player taking the kick off passing it directly back to the goal keeper.

I have no desire to see other aspects of modern football such as deliberate outright cheating by players to 'win' penalties, get opponents sent off by simulating / exaggerating injury. Etc etc

The fact that a player can commit over 200 betting offences and managing to be back playing the game within 8 months instead of being banned 'sine die' from professional football within the jurisdiction of the FA is an indictment of how low the professional game has sunk.

Modern day football is, in many cases, corrupt and a total embarrassment in educating children. It is the antithesis of the definition of what sport used to stand for.

So my friend I do watch football, but at a level where the match is a sporting occasion to entertain and excite by scoring more goals than the opposition. Back passing to the keeper from the kick off followed by passing across the back line, followed by passing back to the keeper again, does nor meet any of the above criteria of a football match. IMHO.

Tell me, Tony, do you actually watch football or just a sad parody of ... the once beautiful game?

Both Blackpool and Barnsley did it for all their restarts.  Charlton passed back to their centre half who was standing in a similar position to Connor Ripley when he was receiving the ball.  Most teams do pass it back to a player who then passes/launches it in the general direction of the players that have now had time to run forward from the kick-off. It’s just for us and at least Blackpool and Barnsley that player has been the goal keeper. I don’t see the issue.  What’s frustrating for me is it ending back at Connor’s feet from a free kick or throw in in the opposition’s half or when one of our corners breaks down. I’ve not counted how frequently this happens it’s just a little annoying when it does.

I have read it again and I still standby my comments that we have been easy to play against this season.

If you can point me in he right direction of all managers that are saying we are difficult to play against then please lets have a look at them

Bit of a generalisation BJ? I’d guess just about half of the teams we’ve played (10) would think that (we’re easy to play against) ie the ones that have beat us. The others would find it difficult to say that if they haven’t beaten us.

I have never known a player to be transferred and the club has to pay up his contract. I just can't see how that could happen. Charlton come in for Uche, Vale agree to let him speak to them, then he goes and we pay a salary for a player we don't have. It's financial madness. Why would we agree to let a player move on if we still have to pay for him. Not having any of that.

It’s certainly a poser BJ has been so adamant about being correct regarding footballer contracts, he must be in the know.  Do clubs just add what is owed for the remainder of a contract to a player’s transfer fee?  There’s always talk about selling players to get their wages ‘off the books’ to save money, how does that work if a club has to pay up what’s left on their contract anyways, if they choose to leave?

I can't help wondering if they are fishing for better offers. Seems to be dragging out a bit from the initial rumour breaking.

It’s dragged because he’s overseas, been at United’s training camp in Dubai this last week. Guess we’ll know tomorrow if United have now returned.  No reason for it not be announced tomorrow if it is a done deal, gives him more time to meet and train with the squad etc…

Liam Brazier young Vale talent on the radar of "Spanish Giants Barcelona", it might well be " pie in the sky", but the information has surfaced from somewhere.

Whatever speculation there is surely to a certain degree is good news for the club in general. Can never remember a season like this for so much young talent coming off the Vale Academy production line and integrated into the first team squad.

Also this season bringing in " Premier League Young Talents", Olly Arblaster and Alfie Devine who today made his Championship debut for Plymouth Argyle and had an assist in one of Plymouth's goals.

Vale have know brought in Jensen Weir from Brighton, who was very productive last season at Morecambe. Now young centre back Rhys Williams from Liverpool and a possibility of another talented young starlet Dan Gore midfield player from Manchester United.

I think it is amazing that a club such as PORT VALE can attract young talent that want to learn their footballing trade at Vale and fair play to Andy Crosby. He may well not be everyone's cup of tea. But full admiration to him for giving youth chance and introducing Premier League Starlets of the future to " The Wembley of The North at Vale Park".

    UTV

What I like about the Mirror article is that it ‘bigs up’ the club (Andy Crosby particularly) too ( not just Brazier) on how good we are with giving young talent from ‘elite’ clubs opportunities to shine. It’s obviously a load of tosh about the potential big transfers but otherwise puts the club in a good light regards young player development.
