    I'd go...                  Ripley

                   Debrah    Smith   Lowe

        Lomax       Sang          Ojo         Grant

                         Chislet     Devine

                                  Garrity

    1-1 Devine to bag

Be nice to see Jones & Willo amongst the match day squad or even an update!

    On the grass 🤣

I suspect that was partly due to being right not left footed. Most left footed players would have cut that cross off. I agree I think he's more a midfield player who can play right wingback.

Good point . He got his positioning all wrong.

But for me get the guy in midfield.

Arblaster definitely out and maybe Ojo. Guess the question is do they shift Lowe into midfield or start Sang or Walters. Assuming Ojo is out:

    Ripley

    Debrah Lowe Smith/Lacovitti

    Massey Sang Devine Grant

    Chisslet Garrity

    Loft

I'd like to see Sang in midfield as he's no wing back. Got caught out physically for the Wigan equaliser.

If Ojo out get Sang in midfield.

Crosby as a manager was up against Michael Carrick last night. He's played at the highest level and has that level of knowhow. Woodgate as deputy has equally played at top level.

Crosby was a L1 player and has not coached or managed at their level. He simply can't have their experience and technical knowledge. I know we can point to Klopp and Mourinho who were not top players. But it's rare.

What I am saying is Carrick and Woodgate can walk on the training pitch and show their players some stuff. Crosby hasn't got that at all.

Yet bizarrely Crosby was a typical lower league agricultural centre half who now wants his own defence to play at being Beckenbauer.

Stoke still have the legacy of over inflated parachute payment contracts. There just seems to be so much waste and they can never quite get cohesive.

They won't like this but because of all that waste they are a 'selling club'. Anytime a good player emerges they will get sold to take the edge off all that waste. As a consequence they will never build anything and be in a constant cycle of being beige, unlikable and average. All the while their fans are expecting more because of their budget.

As a new manager how do you tackle that sense of pointlessness and drift?

It's really tricky to do so onward they march, chewing up and spitting out another middle of the road manager in the process.

The only thing that will help them is to get relegated as it will force their hand in stripping out all the lard/fat. We've seen this over the years with teams like Southampton and Ipswich going through a phoenix club style rebirth. Personally I hope they stay up and their fans are in a constant state of frustration and angst. Hilarious

I think I agree. Lounging around 12th to 20th every season with their false hopes dashed year in year out is quality. They still think 6 years later they have a divine right to be back in The Premier league.

What with their constant lies about attendances and their false belief about how massive they are I'm more than happy for them to wallow in nothingness throwing money away every 18 months when they pay the latest poor manager his compensation.

I'll give him 18 months like the rest of the muppets before him.

And breathe......what a great game to watch although knicker gripping being a Vale fan. Brilliant performances across the park but I'll tell you someone who had a good game for me......THE REF!

Some fierce challenges, let the game flow, picked up on diving.....sound. Only thing I thought he could have done was send off that numpty who was charging into everyone. Was he saying "Calm down, calm down, calm down" in his best Harry Enfield the Scousers voice do you think?

You say picked up on diving? That  twonk who tried to cheat a penalty in the first half was not booked which was a bottle job by the ref. Same player then had a yellow later on and should of been walking .

I personally felt he lost control and was dishing cards like confetti. 8 or 9 yellows in the game.

  7. A season without looking over our shoulders. Other than the promotion season I'd hazard a guess maybe 5 of the last 6 seasons we've been in and around relegation in both League one and two. Sick of it.

I'd also like some attacking entertainment at Vale Park. I go maybe 15 aways and enjoy those for the social aspect.

When I got to VP I'm bored out of my mind.

Correct, it doesn't matter where we are now.
I think the original post is trying to allude to the fact that at the moment we are (relatively) comfortable league position-wise and there's no need for all of this panic.....just my opinion on the original post.

I agree relatively but precarious. Given our next 3 homes as well.

    Time will tell anyway mate.

Just going to leave it here as a reminder.

    Last 10 league matches:

1 Win - Exeter ( the only team worst than us statistically over the last 10 matches)

    2 Draws : Lincoln, Stevenage

7 Defeats Derby, Shrewsbury, Cheltenham, Peterboro, Portsmouth, BRovers, Bolton

    4 Goals Scored

    13 Conceded

    Over the season:

Average Posession : 50.7%.  Have we dominated possession over the season?

XG 19.5   Goals Scored 15. For context Carlise, Shrewsbury and Cheltenham have a worst record

Wow didn't realise that bad. 6 noughts and 4 games where we scored 1.

    Atrocious.

silly question, but i know we wont be mid table either.

Does it matter where we are on Dec 31st ?

No nor does it matter we are 17th now. Not sure what the threads getting at.

Is it a badge of honour or something to be proud about ? Tomorrow we could maybe be 15th or 19th. Hopefully won't be another thread proclaiming either of those.

  11. Cheers for that,  cheered me up.

Here's me thinking that watching the bore that is Port Vale is pure purgatory and listening to the same old drivel spouted by the manager is utter nonsense. Also the worst ever FA cup attendance in 147 years of existence.

Must be going daft in my old age. Glad everything is rosy .

This idea that people are "voting with their feet" has to stop. I haven't looked, but I bet if you look at our average home gate this season, it won't be far off the average for the past 2 x seasons. Ppl going on like we've lost thousands of fans overnight. We haven't.

Last night's attendance was <ovf censored> because it was a Tuesday night replay which nobody wanted, ahead of next week's QF v Boro. Simple as that.

We have several homes games coming up in the next few weeks, including 3 this week alone. People are clearly prioritising certain games in the build up to Christmas based on cost. Last night was right at the bottom of the priority list for myself & I'd guess many others, hence the low attendance.

My views on AC. I'm not a massive Crosby fan, but I can also totally understand why the club are not yet looking to make a change. A few points to flip things around a little & see things through the clubs eyes:

We're 6 points clear of the relegation zone with a game in hand on a couple. That's following an absolute stinking run of results. From a League position perspective, what were people expecting this season? Did ppl genuinely think we'd be pushing for top 6? I expected mid table with ups & downs & so far, that is exactly what we are getting.

Freak opening day aside can anybody recall a game we've been battered in? We've been in every single game this season, despite not performing particularly well at times (Cheltenham at home stands out as the 1 x abomination) & struggling for goals. We've lost by the odd goal v Bolton & Derby & not looked a million miles off it.

He's changed the style of football with a brand new squad. They have been together for 4 months & most are on 2 x year deals, including Crosby himself. He's playing in to the clubs ambitions around giving youth a chance if it's good enough. There's an argument to say (& this is all ifs & buts) had we signed somebody who could stick the ball in the net, we'd be comfortably top half & potentially knocking for top 6.

He's made a bit of money through the performances in the cups, including lining up a League Cup QF next week where we stand a slim, yet realistic chance, of pulling off a result & reaching a 2 x legged semi final in a major cup against a prem giant.

Hypothetically, if we beat Wigan on Saturday & are sat comfortably in mid table, then pull off a shock result v Boro to reach the semis, are ppl still calling for his head? I'd also ask, if we were having this season & DC was in charge, would people be calling for his head? I'll tell you the answer, not a chance.

Last night was a kick in the teeth for the club. There's been a few results this season like that unfortunately. We were 1 x minute away from a potentially lucrative shot in the FA Cup, twice. It stings. I'll add, we went out to Exeter at home last season under DC.

Several home games coming up & I think the picture will become much clearer by the middle of Jan. This is a poor League this year & the standard compared to last year is nowhere near. Nobody (bar game 1) has blown us away & that's because there's not alot between any of the teams. Games decided by small moments of quality up top & lack or errors at the back (Bolton & Derby games).

I'm clearly in the minority from a OVF perspective but I think he should be given time. He would get the full season for me, including Jan transfer window. There has to be some continuation at some point, we can't keep ripping things up & starting over. I think lots of ppl are jumping on the sacking bandwagon without considering all of the points, because it's much easier to go with the majority. I genuinely do not think he comes close to taking us down.

Finally, if somebody had said to you at the start of the season that we'll be mid table come the New Year, ask yourself, would you have accepted it?

4 of the next 6 league games are at home & we've got struggling Wycombe & Carlisle away from home. We're 4 points off 11th placed Shrewsbury who we have 2 x games in hand over (they have scored 13 league goals all season & have lost more games than us). We're 4 points off 12th placed Northampton who have also lost more games than us. We have 1 x game in hand on them as well. We've drawn 3 x games over 90 minutes with 3rd placed Stevenage, 2 of those away from home.

Things aren't as grim as ppl would have you believe. I've witnessed much much worse following the Vale. Please show some patience & support. We are trying to build slowly, the club have been crystal clear on the strategy. Back them.

Struggling Wycombe? Admittedly they are only above us on GD. So that means we are struggling.

I hadn't noticed where they were in the league but by struggling I envisaged them in the bottom 4 not above us .

I was thinking about this it is so mental that he hasnt and it got me thinking with him being offered his first managerial job do you think there is any chance we put in his contract that in January we could <ovf censored> him off if it wasnt going well without paying compo. Thats the only reason i can think of that we havent pulled the trigger. If that isnt the case im beginning to grow more and more unhappy with decision making at the top of the club.

Managers life is precarious. Cambridge pulled the plug on Bonner who had loads of credit in the bank. Maamria despite being a vile character saved Burton from certain relegation last season and they've sacked him.

I'm just not understanding why there appears little prospects of us doing the same.

I've seen some horrific days. Burnley away 7-0 in the 80's. An awful team in the lower reaches of Division 4 as well.

And this team is way better than that.

Yet I'm bored out of my skull with the fare on offer and I'm bored of Crosby. Might as well stick a tape recording and a cardboard cutout. The same dour tripe every game. Beginning to remind me of Aspin in his interviews. Could talk a glass eye to sleep.

It's boring and an effort for people to attend.

    It’s just so typical.

2-0 up, cruising to the third round plus 67k to boot. On top of that it would have been two wins in a few days with a home game on Saturday and the League Cup quarter final next week.

We’ve just managed to sabotage any little momentum or hope of turning things around.

It’s clear to see that he’s not the man for the job. Our game management is none existent. Tonight sums it up.

The total could be anything. 67k for tonight. And yes we're rubbish but 3 division above Maidstone. We'd of been hot favourites. Last 32 then.......oh well we can but dream.

    Has he gone yet ?

Come on Carol. You know it makes sense. If the attendance against Derby and again tonight don't tell you something then nothing will.
