You never mentioned shots on target though pal you just said shots cus it added weight to your argument.

anyway if you feel that bad don’t go life’s too short.

i m just having a bacon butty then meeting my mate for a couple of pints can’t wait… may think differently come half time of course 😂

    utv

Your name tells me bits about you and your age.

Mr Newton a whole hearted Vale legend after barely a season. He'd cringe watching the half arsed efforts from our joke forwards Loft and Uche.

An indictment of recruitment is that Wilson is our best forward.

I feel neither apathy or disillusionment.

i didn’t cherry pick clubs I deliberately picked clubs who were promoted at the same time as us as I felt they were a fair comparison. Hence the title of the thread was context.

I m suprised you ve been going 50 years and think this is the worst football you ve seen… amazed actually.

No idea why you say we had 3 shots in the last 2 away games… unless it suits your agenda. I m sure the actual number of  shots would be around 15 at a guess but I m sure someone will check.

    UTV. Enjoy the game.

Didn't say worst football. I remember hideous teams late 70's and also in the 80's.

It's possibly the most disengaged I've felt. Maybe it's an age thing as I used to go Sunderland and Brighton away on a Tuesday night. Now I struggle get from Porthill to Burslem on a Saturday.  More out of duty than actually wanting to go.

We had 5 shots on target in the 2 games I mentioned so 40% conversion rate isn't bad. Both opposition were in dire form too.

Andy Crosby will go the way of all Port Vale managers and part company with the club at some point. But how that happens is as of yet unknown despite the rantings of a few on  here who seem to have some strange urge  to make things as difficult as possible for him and in some ways for other supporters such as me who actually like and look forward to going to the games.

We are mid table in 1 having reached a quarter final of the league cup with our top scorer and best midfielder both having recently signed extended contracts, due in no small part to the manager. We have attracted better youngsters from premier league teams than ever before, the money on the pitch looks to have worked as by now it would normally be cutting up, we are actually selling talented youngsters to premiership teams and have young players of our own on the verge of the 1st team. We are trying to change the way we play into a more possession based game so that we can attract better players and the foundation / youth set up is better than ever.

Of course it doesn't mean we are 100% happy with our club as supporters we should always try and drive it forwards with support but basically if you are that unhappy with the club in its current state you need to find yourself a new hobby and not bother going ...  from an overall picture point of view the club is better placed than I can remember. And I've been going since 1971 and my dad and grandad before me.

But instead of waffling on lets give it some context.

Of the clubs who came up with us:

Forest Green (smaller than us) relegated and struggling in league 2

Exeter (about the same size club as us) below us in the league

Bristol Rovers (Larger club than us) : 2 points above us in the league.

None of the above suggests to me that we are as bad as people on here are raving on about.

We can also look at a couple of play off winners who came up the same route as us in the season before and season after us.

Carlisle : (about the same size club as us) below us in  the league

Morecambe (smaller club than us) : now back in league 2

Each to their own but I think the weaker minded people think its somehow clever to swear and run down their own club.

As I've said before we will end up with the team the supporters deserve.

UTV and here's a novelty : enjoy the game.

You can't just cherry pick teams.

We were bigger than Rotherham until they had their new stadium. Likewise Reading and Bournemouth.

It's not the ramblings of a few is it. Actual diehards who went to Wycombe were dissatisfied at the fare on offer. 7 points from 9 and still discontent speaks volumes.

I truly want him to succeed but the dour turgid dross is alienating the fanbase. Somehow the last 2 away games we have accrued 4 points with about 3 shots in 180 minutes of football.

It's not going to be Wigan every week that's obvious but the amount of dire games I've witnessed has lessened my appetite for going. 50 years I've gone.

Take Stevenage. I went away. Then some would say bizarrely I didn't go to the replay.

Why was that ? It wasn't money . It was pure tedium. I just couldn't face a dreary cold night of dull football. Turns out it wasn't a bad game despite the result. But if people like me are swayed against going we have no chance of keeping the day tripper fans.

Most of what you said rings true apart from the cherry picking of other clubs. But there is a general sense of disillusionment and apathy. We have to ask ourselves why .

Some say OVF isnt representative of the fanbase. What is representative of the fanbase is the fans who attend Valepark. If they are unhappy with the offering on the pitch and enough of them stop going then the Boardroom acts. Also if a sizeable part of the crowd who do attend turn against the manager then he goes because if they dont act then the Boardroom comes under fire.

My Lard mate said about Rowett and Neill.

They were dead men walking once the crowd turned against the manager and the gallows humour chants add to that.

Not a nice environment. Almost waiting to go a goal down and then it's full on boos and pelters.

I get the feeling Crosby is reaching that stage however our owners perhaps aren't reading the room .

20 years ago every English footballer was raised on 4 4 2. We then had the influx of foreign managers and players.  As most players have come through an academy system somewhere I'm not sure that still holds true.

Rare I watch the greedy premier league but I did watch Liverpool v Arsenal last night.

I think I'm right in saying that for at least 3 years the dippers have gone

Trent ,Van Dijk ,AN other and  Robertson.

I just don't understand why teams not just Vale play square pegs in round holes because they are wedded to a ' system '.

4-4-2 should not be thrown out of the window as archaic. I think managers over complicate stuff. Crosby and Clarke for that matter are guilty of that.

With Credit in the bank from the last two seasons and 16 goals from 76 appearances surely our Manager is not going to clear him off in the next couple of weeks?

Even with his limited starts he is streets ahead of Loft and uche and in my opinion should be given the rest of the season to lead the line...

    Thoughts?......

    A very difficult conundrum.

He's better than those pair however we need a new striker and because they have longer contracts I'd imagine Wilson is more disposable so may well be released.

Arguably our two best creative midfielders out for weeks and you wonder why we were at sixes and sevens. Thankfully the transfer window is around the corner, let’s hope we can find another Ollie / Alfie to bring in short term.

For those knocking Wilson’s contribution, he was in the right place at the right time, that’s what a striker should do.

In fairness we've been at sixes and sevens when they've started !

Crosby we are losing and have 4 centre backs on the pitch. Make a change. Sub at half time was the wrong one as usual

In fairness if those 4 can keep passing it around to each other and back to Ripley we might end up with 62% possession. It's our ethos remember.

More of the Wigan type performance gamely and less of the Middlesborough type performance (especially second half where we were absolutely rubbish).

I'd like know what UCHE has done wrong he rarely gets a game yet I feel adds so much unpredictability to the performances .

Be interesting see what the teams after listening to the pre match thing yesterday there's defo something what went on after Stevenage game and rightly so (maybe a fight between the players ).

We are not a bad side at all when at it tomoz we need be at it .

Barnsley after on boxing day if performance wasn't so lame v Boro be loads attending that game .

7-0 what more motivation do you need avenge that .

Then Blackpool a team we always beat at home I cannot recall them ever beating us in 32 years .

So we could have 7 points minimum out of next 3 .

I expect us hammer Barnsley that  day(well could do if we find that Wigan performance where let's face it we should have scored 5 minimum)I want Uche up front and I want him put the performance level in to not only score but get one of there players sent off as we thrash them.

Bring on the Xmas games and believe in yourselves Vale and deliver the goods .

    UTV

Blackpool put 6 up us at Vale Park. Think Paul Stewart got a hat trick. But time goes so quickly don't remember if 80's or 90's . Which are indeed over 32 years ago. Scary.

Feels a bit harsh on Sang, this. He has been one of our best players during this bad spell and only taken a recent downturn in form after Crosby inexplicably dropped him.

    Very harsh.

2 factors. Mcmanaman has played at the highest level and still has quality.

2nd factor is yet again we had a player out of position. Sang is not a LWB. So was thrown on to ' do a job ' by Crosby.

The next 4 games are very important over a short space of time. Lose all 4 or even 3 out of 4 will signal trouble. But I see the two away games as winnable. Surely against Barnsley on Tuesday, a tough game, we might be seeking redemption! Blackpool another tough home game.

A good Christmas / New Year period would be win 2 and draw 2. We need players to stay fit and will have to use the squad. Bit concerned about midfield fitness in particular.

Crosby can significantly strengthen his hand. But lose and plunge us close to the relegation teams - particularly Carlisle - and the pressure on him grows.

I think we have a nice buffer now Warren to limp to January. I'd take 4 points from the next 4 games.

That would mean even if bottom 4 got 7 points we'd still have a decent cushion.
