  1. Cheltenham vs Carlisle on Tuesday. Carlisle already relegated and expect Cheltenham to win. That would take them out of the relegation zone and push us back in it.

Would also expect a loss for us vs Peterborough.

Then Cheltenham play Bristol Rovers on Saturday, who seem to lose to everyone at the minute.

That would put them on 45 points, so we'd NEED to beat Exeter to stay in touch on 43 points.

    I'm fearing the worst.

  2. Do you know what you’re on about? You’ve moved your goalposts a bit.
The club will decide on the track record of a prospective director of football / head of recruitment, not a bloke on a forum asking other fans what “gems they’ve unearthed”. It’s not just about “gems” to build a football team. Remember that was your sole question about Foyle and you took great pleasure in quoting yourself and saying no one could answer you. But how could they when fans know nothing about other clubs and their recruitment? Like I said it’s up to Vale to decide that.
People are suggesting we appoint Foyle as DoF to oversee recruitment.

I asked if anyone has examples of good signings made while he was Head of Recruitment at St Mirren/Morecambe etc.

No one was able to answer.

What is so hard to understand about that?

Surely, if people are suggesting Foyle, they would be able to back it up other than "he was a good striker for us in the 90s".

  3. It doesn’t bother me either way about Foyle, but I think it’s a daft question to ask about what gems he’s unearthed to justify him now being right for us. Because how would anyone know what gems he’s unearthed when no one is following the clubs he’s worked for? All people are seeing is that he’s been working in the game at that role for the last 10 years or so, on the face of it thats a lot of experience working as a head of recruitment.  Also it’s not just necessarily about unearthing gems, it’s also about having the right contacts, building teams by bringing in the right type of players for them.
    What a crazy comment.

"Let's hire a bloke to sign good players with no track record of doing this for other clubs".

Can someone tell me why we should consider Foyle, apart from being an ex-player/manager?

Examples of him unearthing gems etc?

Seems like no-one can answer my very simple question.

Another case of wanting to bring back ex-players/managers because they were once popular without any actual substance.

I think most people realise it’s the way to go in premier league/championship but not way down in the lower leagues, but maybe I’m a dinosaur 🦖

    Congleton Town have a DoF!

It's becoming more common than people think.

Manager focuses on managing + final say on transfers.

DoF builds infrastructure + leads recruitment.

  6. He obviously didn't mean to mess up the transfers on purpose, but was clear to say that too many avoidable mistakes were made and he had to go.

    Shame, but correct decision.

Wonder if we'll look at another DoF or just scrap the position?

  7. Let's not go crazy.

    He's done okay.

17 years old though and we're expecting him to save us from relegation? Very poor from the club.

Would be nice if we could now sell him for a couple of million to fund a L2 title push (plus Carol adding in more to pay for her mistakes).

This manager, all fur coat and no knickers, he's just wind and pish, 5 years to hoan his manager skills with his team of shysters, Oh Carol you are such fool, you screwed it when employed these tools, as for Flitcroft he'll make you cry, cause in the end the Vale will surely die. Apologies to N Sedaka.

Carol's glowing review of Moore - "I can't believe Darren Moore would come to little old Port Vale" - reminds me of Smurthwaite appointing Ribeiro - "Wow, Jose Mourinho has recommended him".

Moore hasn't got any sort of track record of turning around poor teams.

He's great if you've got a budget and want promotion, but he's clearly a big fish in a small pond manager.

We'd have been better off with an old school spit and sawdust type manager.

    Yesterday was baffling once again.

James Plant at right back?! HE'S A FORWARD! Surely the move would have been to bring Lopata on, then put Smith/Debrah at RB?!

Big ask, but if we can somehow get it to Cambridge Utd at home winner stays up what a final game of the season that would be.

We'll be gone long before then.

I reckon we'll be down with 3 to spare.

  10. Carol always talked about a "5 year plan" to get out of League Two.

We did it in the first year.

Therefore, if we go back down to League Two, it's still within the plan?

That's the only reason I can think of.
