Strikers at our level are rarely a case of "he's scored for them, so he will score for us".
It's about the style of football.
ie what type of chances do we create? If we create chances in the air, get a Pope v2. If we create 1 on 1's, get a Louis Dodds v2 etc.
However, I'm not really sure what type of chances we create!

We need to play 3 behind a target man. This 2 10s malarkey is toothless. If the formation doesn’t change, the results don’t change. If the results don’t change, the manager will change.
The 2 #10's behind a striker means we are so narrow up top. There's never any width to stretch teams out. It's always really congested in our attack, and easy to defend against if the opposition stay narrow too.
That's just how I see it anyway.
And to score 1 goal from open play (3 in total) in 9 games shows something isn't working.
Trouble is, we haven't really got the players to play any other way!
Ripley
Sang - Debrah - Yak - Attacking LB
Ojo - Blaster
Right winger - Devine/Garrity - Plant
Uche
Something like that would be worth a try for me?

We've scored 3 goals in the last 9, conceding 13.
Port Vale 0 - 1 Bolton Wanderers
Bristol Rovers 3 - 0 Port Vale
Portsmouth 2 - 0 Port Vale
Stevenage 0 - 0 Port Vale
Port Vale 0 - 1 Peterborough United
Port Vale 1 - 2 Cheltenham Town
Lincoln City 1 - 1 Port Vale
Shrewsbury Town 2 - 1 Port Vale
Port Vale 0 - 1 Derby Countyvs Shrewsbury = Garrity header from a free kick.
vs Lincoln = Garrity finish from a cross.
vs Cheltenham = Devine acrobatics from Smiths knockdown from a corner.
That's ONE GOAL FROM OPEN PLAY in NINE GAMES!
Sorry Andy, it's time for fresh ideas.

I hate the whole "calling for another person to lose their job" thing, but I suppose that's the nature of the industry.
Makes it harder that Crosby seems like a really decent bloke, but it does feel like him leaving before the season is out is inevitable.
A lot of people, myself included, were against the appointment in the first place, so I feel that he will get more time than usual, as sacking him now would be an admission of failure from Flitcroft/Carol.

I know a few people on here were talking about this guy as another WB option.

Just had a quick squizz at how the proven strikers that were bandied about on here as being the answer to all our prayers are doing so far this season. Cole Stockton, Tyler Walker, Aaron Pressley, JCH (Brian's choice), Tyrese Simpson, Dale Taylor - 9 league goals between the lot of them. Garritys got more than any of them.
This is an impossible statement to make.
You don't know how they would have done at Vale - different styles/locations/settling in periods etc etc
Personally I think we'd have been stronger with any of those.

It's all about opinions, but I think Plant is completely wasted as a WB.
Need to get him running at the oppositions goal rather than our own.- 5

I’d like to see Jones given a go at LWB and move Plant to his favourable position at RWB.
Plant is a winger/striker?
He's never been a wingback at youth level.

McDermott needs to go somewhere and play 40+ games for his development. He's looked decent in the few appearances I've seen him (when played in his proper position).
I'd be looking to recall him in January and send him somewhere where he'll play.
Even bad loans all add to his experience though.- 2

Still need an athletic, left footed LWB.
Like we did before the season started.- 4

Would you take Barton at Vale?

Just listened to the Flitcroft interview - what a fantastic conversation! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Thought you both asked some great questions too and definitely didn't shy away from asking what the fans wanted to know!

Can see Allardyce/Dyche/Mowbray ending up there (sadly).

Really enjoyed the latest podcast - keep up the good work lads!
I'm maybe a bit more pessimistic, I think we'll finish between 11th and 14th.
I'm just not sure where the creativity is going to come from.
I can see us being workmanlike, solid and hard to beat, but our Achilles heel will be breaking down teams that put 10 men behind the ball.
I think we lack a JMW type wide player that can create something from nothing personally. But I'd like to think we won't be anywhere near a relegation battle though at any point!

Not sure on wages or desire to come, but Duff or Mowbray would be outstanding.
I've watched a lot of Sunderland this season and they play some great attacking football. Create loads of chances. If they hadn't sold Ross Stewart, or at least replaced him they would be doing much better.
